Vergil has never been one for words, but you learned to listen. Somewhere between the silence and the space he gave you, something warmer took root. You didn’t ask for him to change. You only stayed long enough to see that he could.
⠀⠀ ⠀“I have lived in silence for so long… I didn’t realize someone could hear me in it.”

"Woah, hey dude, are you okay, you look like you're gonna throw up?" Nero muttered out, a mix of concern and amusement toning the question, as he moved from the passengers seat to stand beside you.
"Sure as hell better not, not in my van." Nico yelled back from behind the wheel, glancing over her shoulder just long enough to catch a glimpse of you with your head buried in your hands. "I'm warning ya.. don't even think about it."
"Yeah, no I'm all good. Just nervous, that's all." You muttered out, taking a deep breath before you slumped back into the seat, tilting your head up to meet Nero's gaze, as he flashed you a sincere smile.
"Mh, sure it's not her driving?", he huffed out, chuckling at the sight of Nico flipping him off in the rear view mirror.
"It's gonna be great though, don't stress it.. we're gonna do awesome." Nero continued, nodding his head eagerly.
The three of you had thought of the genius plan to start a band, as every uni student does during their free time, and tonight was your first time playing.. in front of a single soul other than the band, and little ol' Kyerie - who, mind you, was the best audience one could ask for.
You had moved to Redgrave not that long ago really, six or seven months or so, but Kyerie was one of the first friends you had made in college. The two of you had bumped into each other in the corridor, knocking the others stuff on the floor, and in a bundle of apologies and helping each other to sort out the mess of paper, you two ended up talking all your way to the canteen, and discovered you have a lot of lectures together, and alot of mutual hobbies. Since then, the two of you grew very close, pretty much hip to hip a lot of the time. So it wasn't long before you met her beloved, Nero, and meet him you did.
"Ah, so this is who has been stealing you away this whole time?" A voice called out, as the two of you descended the college steps, still engrossed in conversation. Your attention turned to a young man leant against the brick wall, hands shoved into the pockets of his red jacket, as he raised an eyebrow towards you.
You watched the two exchange a small smile, Kyerie skipping down the steps to be engulfed in his arms as he placed a soft kiss to the crown of her head, muttering a soft, "Hello, beautiful." You couldn't help but glance down to the prosthetic arm in front of you, as it wrapped around Kyrie's waist, but was quick to lift your gaze elsewhere, as the two turned to face you.
Kyerie sweetly introduced the two of you before offering you to join them for dinner. Much to the ever so slight annoyance from Nero, who was much rather looking forward to a date night, rather than a hang out - but an innocent smile from Kyerie was enough to convince him to roll with it. To which, he gave you a mock glare and intertwined his hand with Kyerie's, tugging gently as the three of you continue down the city streets.
From there you met Nico, and the four of you became quite a close nit group, and that's how you found yourself trying desperately not to throw up from nerves in the back of an extremely unhelpfully bumpy ride to the club you were scheduled to play at 10 minutes ago.
Once you guys arrived, you were ushered behind stage to set up, and left to, extremely, quickly set up, as you simultaneously practiced your breathing techniques, as the overwhelming urge to pass out crept up on you. Kyerie found the three of you backstage, instantly coming to give you a squish upon seeing your pale complexion, whispering, "You've got this. Just play like it's us in the garage." She gave you a bright smile whilst squeezing your shoulders before running to find Nero.
You glanced to Nico, who gave you an overly enthusiastic grin from behind her keyboard, and a thumbs-up that was half encouragement, half 'try not to crash and burn'. As you caught snippets of the conversation between Nero and Kyerie.
"Yep, they're here. They're hiding by the bar because your dad didn't want to sit next to people." Kyerie chuckled, to which Nero rolled his eyes and gave a heavy exhale. "But it's gonna be fine, he's going to love it!" she hummed with excitement before placing a delicate kiss on his cheek.
"Good luck you guys!" she turned back before disappearing out to the front, finding a spot right by the side of the stage.
Nero stretched out, jumping a few times to pump himself up before he found his way behind the drum set, spinning the drumsticks within his hands. "Right, let's make some noise."
"Ow ow, let's fucking go" Nico bellowed out, as your hand ghosted the frets of your guitar, mumbling a silent 'let's fucking go' under your breath as you clutched the pick between your fingers.
The lights dimmed, and the chatter from the small crowd faded into a hum as Nero played an experimental rumble on the drums, as if to build tension. You felt your heart slam against your chest as your eyes glazed over the collection of faces peering up at you, before you caught Kyerie's gaze once more - the shared look was enough to calm your shaking hands, even for a moment.
As the subtle starting notes from the song echoed out from Nico's keyboard, you closed your eyes and inhaled deeply, before getting ready to chime in. Suddenly, your body took over, muscle memory making your fingers find their way to exactly where they needed to be. Alongside Nero's relentless drumming, and Nico's fiery voice, you followed alongside perfectly, slamming the strings to your guitar with precision.
You caught Kyerie's smile from the side of the stage, and she sang along, giving you a boost of courage - softening the thumping in your chest to let you move with the rhythm, enjoying the moment for what it was.
As your eyes fluttered back open, they fell upon a piercing gaze - a pair of eyes locked onto you, unwavering and sharp. At the bar, a figure stood tall, above the crowd. Silver hair cloaking his gaze ever so slightly, a harsh contrast to the dark leather coat draped over his broad shoulders. His sharp, angular features were almost sculpted, with piercing blue eyes that locked onto you with a quiet intensity, not a flicker of distraction.
Your breathe hitched as you held his gaze, but something about the way he looked at you sparked a strange confidence. His stare didn't unnerve you. It challenged you. Your playing grew bolder, your voice stronger. The nervousness that had threatened to choke you had vanished as you owned the stage. Niko caught the shift, her eyes narrowed with interest, following your gaze before landing on this 'mysterious' stranger - a knowing grin stapled to her face as she continued to belt out the lyrics. Nero following suit with the intensity, focusing on slamming into the drums as his eyes flickered between the stage and Kyerie, sweat glistening over his forehead.
By the time the last chords rang out, the crowd erupted into applause. You flashed a smile to your bandmates before turning your attention to the bar, noticing the piercing blue gaze had disappeared. You didn't have long to contemplate it before Kyerie had rushed over, shaking you from your thoughts.
"That was incredible! You totally killed it!!"
Nero patted you on the back before wrapping his arms around Kyerie, resting his chin on her shoulder.
"Told you, you'd be fine." He huffed, swaying Kyerie in his arms.
As the applause died down, Nico nudged you lightly, a sly grin tugging at her lips.
"We did it, what a crowd, huh?" she said, nodding in the vague direction you had been watching for most of the song. You followed her gaze, humming in slight disappointment as you saw the space to still be empty. Wondering where such an intense connection had suddenly vanished to. Perhaps you had imagined it all?
"Yeah, that was.. incredible!" you huffed, regaining your breathe as you removed the guitar strap, passing it one of the tech guys. You followed the rest of the group off stage, still focused on whether such an interaction had even happened. You were led to a seemingly empty booth towards the back of the room, with a small 'reserved' sign decorating the middle of it. It was only as you turned the corner to sit down that you noticed two men were perched either side of the table already. Seemingly known already by the rest of the group.
⠀ Your eyes instantly falling upon a familiar gaze.
