I get that your intention wasn't to attack trans women, and I appreciate you explaining where you were coming from. I also agree that multiple forms of transphobia can exist at the same time.
My issue isn't that the specific type of performative ally you're describing doesn't exist. It's that the meme presents support for trans women as the "default" performative position, when in reality trans women are often the primary targets of fearmongering and dehumanization. We're frequently portrayed as predators, dangerous, or deceptive, and that rhetoric is widespread.
So when I see a meme framed as "I support trans rights! ...I support trans women!" it can feel like it's reinforcing the idea that trans women are the group people are socially rewarded for supporting, when that often isn't our lived reality. That's why I made the reversed versionâit wasn't to deny that the people you're talking about exist, but to point out that the opposite dynamic also exists and is often overlooked.
I believe your intent wasn't transmisogynistic. My criticism is about the framing and the message it can unintentionally send, not about accusing you of personally hating trans women.
i absolutely hear you on that, supporting trans women is by and large not socially rewarded and I can see how Iâm unintentionally reinforcing the opposite. thank you for sharing your perspective on this, Iâll now be more sensitive to that in the future
