Life Altering Opportunities

Teyanna: I had no idea where this doggen was taking me, only that Mary knew him and I was to trust him. Otherwise, the only thing that Mary told me was that this possible position would be something more than what I was already doing. I was still stumped by that. I was living in the one city in the new country that had the largest concentration of my our kind, and working at the biggest medical clinic in the area. How could there be something more? But, I had been volunteering alongside Mary for a while now and I trusted her.
Truthfully, the thought of more actually intrigued me. I had been feeling as if my work was already becoming stale at Haversā. It just wasnāt what I was used to, back in the old country. There had been so many more opportunities there, over the years, that working at Haversā place had always felt like a step back. It was the one thing he had been worried about when he hired me, I was overqualified. I guess we both knew it would happen. It had been silly to pretend otherwise. But, it was what was available to me for now.Ā
As we drove down a winding road, the mhis suddenly got thick. I had experienced them a time or two in my past and to see them again captivated me. Where exactly had Mary sent me?
Large twin gates appeared as we glided past them, through the mist. More winding road, before a steep incline into an underground garage. I couldnāt imagine a place in Caldwell where this all existed. The doggen that picked me up, came around and opened my car door for me, extending a hand in order to assist me while getting out of the car. I took it and allowed him to help me out. Looking around, it didnāt look like much, but from the trip in, I knew there was much more to this place than meets the eye. @Beth_Marklon
Beth: *Wrath and I were going over some documents pertaining to some estates that needed to be confirmed and divided after some deaths of some of the members of the Glymera. We had an appointment coming to be interviewed to be considered being an additional Brotherhood in house doctor to help out Manny.Ā
He was being overworked dealing with the Brotherhood and Trainees and while Ehlena was going to school and studying, Mary had someone in mind to help us out. I was grateful for it.
I didnāt want to see Manny burned out and stressed. He needed help and we could use the opportunity to give him some downtime.
I left #Saxton and Wrath to complete the normal day to day business while I interviewed the newcomer. As the lady of the house, Wrath those decisions to me. He trusted my judgment to know what needed to be done. I would have Manny interview her as well since they would be working together.Ā
Teyanna: The doggen brought me in through a set of double doors in the garage, which led to a long hallway, set with overhead, fluorescent lights for as far as I could see. In a way it looked like it could be a hospital. However, there werenāt as many rooms as a hospital would have, and the faint sound of weights being worked didnāt make sense for a hospital, either. Although, if I focused real hard, I could make out the scent of medical sterilization chemicals. āMary, where have you sent me?ā Was the only thing going through my mind.
We continued down the hall until the doggen stopped in front of a doorway and held the door open for me. Walking inside, it appeared to be a small waiting room, with a couple of chairs and a sofa lining the walls.
āYou may have a seat in here. The Queen will be with you shortly.ā the doggen proclaimed as he turned on his heel and closed the door on his way out.
I nearly choked. He couldnāt have just said what I think he said. The Queen?! I pulled my phone out of my purse and began punching up Maryās phone when I heard the door open from behind. Quickly, I hit āEndā on my phone, shoved it back in my purse, and turned to see the Queen of our race standing in the doorway.
Beth: *I walked into the study that I decided to use to interview Teyanna so it will be less formal and Wrathās office would be too much for a civilian. They tended to be star struck and shy when faced with the fact that the throne is where their King sat. I always found myself smiling thinking it was such a strange life that I lived in where my hellren was King which made me somehow their queen. I chuckled to myself. #Boo was walking and hanging out with me since @BellaRAhgony was watching #Nalla and #LW. We walked along down the hallway from the main living spaces towards the front of the manse to the study.
I walked into the study where she was sitting and I moved the folder with her resume under my left arm and took out my hand to shake hers.
Teyanna: My tongue was twisted about fifty ways to Sunday as the Queen extended her hand to me. Damnit Mary, I could have handled this, if youād just prepared me! Iāve met with many people in power before. But, in each one of those circumstances, I knew what I was walking into. I knew with whom I was meeting. This wasnāt completely foreign to me. I was, after all, Glymera. Yet, here I was, standing in front of the Queen of our race, completely at a loss for words. As much as I hated being Glymera, it did give me a sense of superiority to many. The Queen was not one of those people.
Dipping my head in reverence, I outstretched my hand to meet hers. āIām sorry your majesty. Mary did not tell me, it was you that I was meeting.ā
Beth: *I smile as she performs the unnecessary but traditional sort of curtesy the race tended to do when they met Wrath or me. Since I didnāt grow up with royalty here in the States so never had a chance to use that sort of protocol. I felt it was silly and I wasnāt used to it at all and the household mainly skipped those types of traditions. Except the doggen, there was nothing I could really do about their actions and heaven forbid if I try to hug one. Mentally shakes my head.*
Please, donāt worry about it. Iām not really into protocols or anything. Just call me Beth, please. We can just skip the bows, alright? Letās sit down shall we and we can get to know each other. Did Mary have a chance to explain exactly what you will be doing?
Teyanna: Beth. The queen of our race just requested that I call her Beth. I couldnāt be further from my element, right now. Damn, Mary! She was definitely going to hear about this later. She probably did it on purpose, just as a way to get back at me for that last prank I pulled on her. I Saran Wrapped her whole office. It took me a whole weekend, but she was pretty impressed come Monday. Of course, that was after she had me cut everything out. I chucked to myself at the memory. It was totally worth it!
Now, I was face to face with our Queen and she was asking that I be informal with her. I cleared my throat and nodded as I settled back into the sofa along the wall. Time to put my game face on. Clear the mechanism ⦠a small quirk of my lip as I thought back to the Kevin Costner movie. As innocuous as I could, I took in a small breath and let it out.
āActually, Mary told me nothing about what I would be doing. She just alluded to the fact that she had a position in mind where I could be doing more. As you know, she didnāt even tell me with whom I would be meeting. So, unfortunately, I know very little.ā
Beth: *I smile as she seems to get more control of the surprise of being in an interview with me. I had a feeling Mary did it on purpose for some reason I was unaware of, not that it bothered me.*
Basically, we have a physician to the Brotherhood and a nurse in training to become a doctor ⦠but as the training program expands adding new soldiers to the ranks, we also need more medical expertise to assist our doctor with all of the ⦠um ⦠injuries that occur around here. *I really didnāt want to elaborate on how many injuries occurred here on a daily basis ⦠I didnāt want to scare her.*
There is a caveat though ⦠you would have to sign a confidentiality agreement which I have been informed is iron clad by the Kingās solicitor and you would be required to move into the manse here with us ⦠you would essentially be ingrained into our family ...basically into the royal household. I hope you understand.
*I allowed all the information to settle to allow her to completely understand that she would be giving a significant part of her life to the Brotherhood and the household due to the security.*
I need you to really think about this offer. You should consider all the options and pros and cons. I know this is a huge opportunity but itās also a huge responsibility and it affects your life more than a normal career would. You need to meet with Manny as well, our current physician to see if he is someone you could work with every day. Probably Ehlena as well. Do you have any questions for me?
Teyanna: As the Queen laid out the specifics of the job and all that would be asked of me, I couldnāt help but think that this was it. This was what I had been training for all my life. Sure, I was vastly overqualified for the actual work. I had extensive experience in more than seven different specialties now, and over two hundred years of experience in the medical field under my belt. But ⦠this was my calling. This was the type of meaningful work I had been seeking out my entire life. I had always wanted my work to have purpose. Not that working in the medical field didnāt have purpose. I had been involved in many breakthroughs for the race, and many critical time periods of war. However, this was the cream of the crop as they liked to say in the New World. It got no more essential than this, working for The Brotherhood.
Living at the manse was going to be an adjustment. I had lived an incredibly independent life for a very long time. The last time I had lived with anyone was ⦠well, probably in the late 1800ās when I worked with that one colony in Africa. Other than that, I was pretty much a lone wolf of sorts. But, if that was what was required of the job, I would try it. Who knows, maybe the change would be good for me.
As for the rest, the confidentiality agreement and all that entailed. That would be the easy part. I had lived with doctor-patient confidentiality since the beginning. I knew how to hold things close to the vest.
Of course, I had questions about salary and how living expenses would be handled. But, she had my resume and I had my salary requirements on it. Still, I didnāt want to make any assumptions, so I started my questions there. āFirst of all, the job sounds perfect and I canāt thank you enough for offering me the opportunity! I am beyond honored and humbled to be considered for the position. That being said, and not to make it all about money, because itās absolutely not! Working with the Brotherhood would be a dream-come-true for me. The sheer purpose that it would bring to my life is unmatchable. But, you havenāt mentioned salary, so I figure you have seen the salary requirements on my resume and have a compatible offer for me?
āMy second question would be about Safe Place. I would like to continue my work there. Would that be possible? I understand I may not be able to spend the time there that I do now, and I can accept that. But, I would like to at least stay on-call with them. They do amazing work and being a part of it fills my heart in ways that not many other volunteer positions have in the past.ā
I knew I would have tons more questions before the final decisions would be made, but these were my top two.
Beth: *I watched as the thoughts ran through her head and then she started asking important questions that Iām glad she thought about. I did see her salary requirements and it was significantly lower than what was going to be offered so that wouldnāt be an issue. I stated as much and informed her of the salary and provided room and board ⦠the widening of her eyes clearly meant that it was unexpected and beyond fair.*
In regards to #SafePlace, I would insist that you continue your work there when you can. As you know Manny, our current in house physician, cannot volunteer there as it is females only. Though Ehlena, our nurse that helps him, does split her time there as well as at #Havers during her training rotation to become a doctor. Actually, you guys may have already met. Though you will need to stop working at #Havers in order to work here but #SafePlace would be considered an extension of the Brotherhood as one of ours, #Marissa runs it with help from Mary and sometimes Bella. All three of which live here as well and you will be introduced to along with the rest of the family.
Iām sure you have lots of other questions. I insist you take a day and really consider this offer. I want you to be confident in your decision ⦠I know we are asking for a lot and more that you expected. This will be a huge commitment. *I stood and waited for her to join me and walked out the study.* Letās just take a tour of the facility that we have so you can see what machines and medical supplies that we have and it will give you an opportunity to write down anything you need. We can obtain whatever you need, just give the list to either Manny, Ehlena or #Fritz and they will get it here for you. That also goes for your room too where you will reside as well.
Teyanna: The offered salary was definitely not what I was expecting, and I was having a hard time hiding my surprise. But, once again I was able to get myself under control and present a professional front. This position was going to be the highlight of my career. It got no better than this. Sure, I had done some substantially meaningful work before, and even developed some incredible medical breakthroughs. But, nothing was ever going to compare with working for The Black Dagger Brotherhood.
I agreed to take a day to think about it, even though I already knew my answer was going to be yes. How could it not be?
The other thing that surprised me was the number of people that I already knew that were a part of this community. Ehlena and I had been working together for a while at Havers. I never would have realized that she was a part of The Brotherhoodās inner circle. Then there was Marissa and Bella. So many things began to make sense to me. So many things that I had noticed in the past that didnāt quite seem to go together, now suddenly did, like the fact that the doggen that picked me up and drove me here, I had seen with both Ehlena and Marissa before.
Following the Queen out of the room and around the facility so many questions popped into my head. I asked what came up as we went and took notes of equipment they had and some that they didnāt that I thought would be beneficial to the work. There was so much to see. They actually had an impressive medical suite. It didnāt want for much, but I did think of a few things that it could use. I would bring those up, once I gave my final answer.
She didnāt bring me up to the living quarters, and for good reason. Should I decide against the position, I would have the complete layout of the building. That was fine by me. There would be plenty of time for me to see it all later. At the end of the tour, I graciously thanked the Queen for her time and the offer. I let her know that I would be sure to let them know by daybreak the following night.
