I think Frankenstein’s creature is perhaps hideous in the way Edward Hyde is. Nothing wrong with him, no notable deformity but just… Unbearably ugly. Victor did remark he “selected his features to be beautiful” after all. It makes sense because they’re both dreadful products of experiments which bends the law of nature.

I don’t think Hyde is evil necessarily. He’s violent in nature, but he’s not malicious. He’s not inflicting pain because of misogyny; he’s not murdering because he has something to gain; he’s not constructing grand schemes that furthers him. He’s murdering because he felt like it. He’s in love with violence for its own sake. He’s a sadist in its purest form, and it’s just hard to despise him.
