episode one!
opening credits are telling me the special effects budget has certainly increased!
'since we saved the northern water tribe, aang has become a pretty good waterbender' well good to know it happened during the timeskip because it certainly didn't happen during season one!!
oooh that fight scene was FUN! loved katara with the spinny water knives! and the little moment where she fixed aang's form was cute!
SUKI! my girl :)) and sokka holding on to that hug extra long :(
lol aang was really speedrunning the bumi rescue. he broke in, had a deep and meaningful, and got out all in five mins tops!
zuko is in his long hair arc! and (apparently) his backpacking through australia fruit picking summer holiday arc!
the serpent's pass sequence was fun. even more fun that suki was immediately willing to throw down w a giant serpent.
hmm. not sure if I completely buy zuko and iroh's separation here, or zuko's reasons for wanting it. I can't really entirely get on board with the idea that zuko wanted iroh to rule - I feel like cartoon zuko very much thought that being fire lord was ozai's (and by extension his own) rightful place. like even if zuko did, deep down, blame iroh for everything that happened to him, I don't necessarily think early s2 zuko would've been ... self-aware enough to properly unpack that? if that makes sense?
overall, a good episode! there was a lot going on, but it didn't have the clunkiness issues that season one episode one did imho.

hahaha that we got the 'a girl has her ways' moment. I like that they're giving katara more of her goofy moments this season!
big aww @ the blue spirit being a story that ursa told zuko to cheer him up :') (dare I say this increases the parallels w katara learning about the painted lady in the previous episode? #zutaracrumbs)
