a word about doublelift
I don’t know how many people still check this blog, so I’m sorry to anybody that still does. I needed a place besides twit to word vomit a little.
I’ve known Peter for a while now; not well, but we have met a handful of times outside of the context of esports and I’ve spoken to him on and off in the last five years both in person & over text. There’s the trashtalk and the self-deprecating humor but we all know he’s worked hard and given up a lot to be where he is today. He is a strong, resilient individual with exceptional talent and a generous heart. To follow his story both as a fan and an acquaintance has been a privilege and inspiration for me and many of my friends both online and irl, and to hear about this horrific situation is absolutely devastating and shocking. Even though this blog has never particularly focused on him, I’ve recognized and referenced my appreciation of his talent a couple times (felt kind of awkward to do the whole business of stanning because he was a person I had interacted with irl before). For all the times we’ve joked about his gameplay and his esports persona on here over the course of his career, he has entertained and endeared himself to us, and we have seen his growth as both a person and a player. That will never change.
Peter, we are here for you. Some have expressed how it feels as if this had happened to a close friend or family member, and that’s a testament to how much you mean to everybody in the community. Our deepest condolences to you and your family. Our thoughts are with you. Our hearts go out to you. We hope that you take all the time you need to do what you need to do, and that you will find strength and love in the people that support and surround you. Lean on the people that love you. We believe in you, always.
