this is so cool! what part of the rp are you most excited about?
thank you! oh wow, that's an interesting question! i think the generational aspect of this rp is what i'm most excited to write about. there's so much potential for irony or exploring interesting things. will our characters make the same mistakes as their family members before them or will they defy their generational curse and do the unexpected? there's so much potential!
I'm making quick progress setting up the main which means that I'll be able to release it soon! For everyone who has reblogged this post you'll get a link to it on the 7th, and then I will post the link publicly on the 10th!
I'm so excited about this, I'm already worried about missing out on my favorite skeleton and I haven't even seen a skeleton to know if I like them. I haven't been this excited about a group in AGES.

so if we use an fc for a character in the 1880s, then don't use that same fc in the 1900s for the next generation, does that mean someone else can use them, or are they considered still 'taken' because of the character in the 1880s?
they will be considered a 'retired' fc, so permanently taken for the rest of the rp!
is this going to be a discord or tumblr rp?
it's going to be a hybrid! most of the interactions will take place on tumblr, since i absolutely abhor writing paras on discord. but the events will take place on discord and roll20 (roll20 is just so that you can see the interactive map/game board). i know it's a lot to manage but i promise it's worth it!
with the multi generations, it is multiple fcs or like ahs where the same face carries on a new muse? this looks so cool!
that is a great question! so great, in fact, that two people asked it overnight lol! my intention is to have the fcs change with each generation. although, if you want it to be a scenario where you carry over the fc for a generation that's fine by me, they can just have an uncanny resemblance to their family member! then again, some of the characters in the same 'family' may not be genetically related to each other since they could be spouses, adopted, wards, or apprentices!
i know for me one of my favorite parts of rping is creating a new muse and establishing new connections. and I've noticed that the rpc has a much shorter attention span than it used to, so I figured this would be a good way to scratch the creative itch to make a new muse while keeping a cohesive overarching story going!
when will the main be ready?
the goal is to have it ready by the tenth! in the meantime, it would be super useful if you could reblog our teaser post to get the word out!
I'm working hard to get the main and skeletons ready for the grand reveal! If you are like me and want to write in the victorian era, no wait the 1940s, no actually the 80s, then this rp is right for you!
how many skeletons will there be?
To begin with, there will only be six skeletons! Although the rp will probably see many more playable characters than that!

when you say "follows six families for six generations" what does that mean in the context of the rp?
So this is something that'll be quite unique about our game. I was inspired by Betrayal: Legacy and wanted to make an rp that followed a group of families over the course of about two hundred years from the last 1800s to the present day. So applicants will start by applying for a character that is based on one of our six skeletons and then will rp as that character for about six weeks. At the end of those six weeks, we will have an event where our characters are put in a perilous situation within the haunted house.
It is very likely that at least one of the characters will die during this event. In some cases, only one character will survive. Then the rp will jump forward in time about twenty to thirty years (the exact dates are: 1881 - 1909 - 1943 - 1965 - 1986 - 2024). Muns will submit a new character to play during the new time period. This character will be in some way related to the one who came before. And the process repeats until the present day when the mystery is finally solved by the final generation of characters.

There is a house up on the hill that nobody lives in. It’s been unoccupied for nearly a century yet despite the cobwebs and ivy, this mansion stands proud as if untouched by time. No one in the small Irish town of Balheath can deny the allure of it. Staring up at its tall black spires and grand oak doors, one can start to imagine themselves with a better life. Perhaps the riches of the previous resident still lie waiting inside. Perhaps there could be a new owner of the grand estate and all its land. Perhaps that could be you.
But there are warnings and whispers. Some say they hear screams in the night coming from the house on the hill. Those who have gone to investigate the wailing come back shaking and hollow-eyed. They speak of terrifying and impossible visions. The house is haunted, without a doubt. Even a skeptic could see the danger a decrepit mansion could hold. If you are brave enough to climb the iron wrought fence and enter the manor you may find fortune, but something else may find you first.

BETRAYALHQ is a small skeleton rp based on Betrayal: House on the Hill Legacy. This rp follows six families for six generations spanning from 1881 to the present day. The rp will involve dice-rolling mechanics and an intensive mystery plot. The rp will explore themes common to gothic literature such as the perseverance of guilt, the way greed robs people of their humanity, and the lengths people will go to survive.
