I took these photos years ago whilst cycling some aquariums. I found the color ranges very interesting. It’s always good to test your aquariums regularly, even if nothing appears to be wrong yet!

Could i please get a small mammal cursed bio fact if u have one
the grasshopper mouse of the southwestern United States looks like a standard house mouse but is almost entirely carnivorous and is known to kill and consume everything from less homicidal mice to goddamn rattlesnakes, which they kill by jumping onto the snake’s back and gnawing through its spine
behold…. a Bastard
How could U fail to mention that this fool marks territory by howling? Yunno. Like a wolf
Here’s a clip of one of the “howls” these mice make. They actually have six distinct vocalisation types and their wide range of calls can allow them to distinguish species, sex, even individuals.
Another fun fact about them is because they often prey on highly venomous arthropods like scorpions, they’ve actually evolved to cope with the toxins they inject by using sensory neurons that prevent pain signals.

You were my first betta and you started an addiction. You went through ugly aquascapes and stuck it through when I was learning how to care for you. You were always the angriest compared to your brothers and you hated the color orange. You had the largest personality I have ever seen in such a tiny body. Swim in peace ✌.
I didn’t know cheetahs meow I’ve always thought they roar my whole life has been a lie
Ok but the other one is purring so hard
If I ever don’t reblog this assume I’m dead
Fun fact: technically, because of its inability to roar and its ability to purr, the cheetah is not a ‘big cat’ (or Great Cat) - they are still classified as Lesser Cats.
Also you haven’t heard anything until you hear them cheep.
YOU CANNOT JUST SAY THAT AND NOT PROVIDE A VIDEO
I HAVE REALISED MY MISTAKE AND SHALL RECTIFY IT:
Cheeps.
Oh my god
I’m dead now

You wouldn’t think that flamingoes are extremophiles just from looking at them. It’s like somebody tried to build the vertebrate equivalent of that fungus that lives inside nuclear reactors, and ended up with a gangly pink dinosaur with a spoon for a face.
For everyone in the comments asking how flamingos are extremophiles:
Flamingos can survive in low oxygen, high altitude, high temperatures, low temperatures, high alkaline, they can and will drink boiling water and they can be completely frozen at night and still get up the next morning
Don’t fuck with flamingos
26th century sociologist voice: “and this is why Floridians adorned their lawns with the flamingo, even as the waters rose around them: to symbolize hope and resilience in the face of an overwhelmingly hostile environment.”

Everybody loves pumpkin enrichment!
These are great items because they’re fun for the herbivores to each, the carnivores to tear apart, and everybody to roll and throw around. They’re tactile, olfactory, and edible enrichment all in one!
I believe they’re acceptable on-exhibit enrichment for naturalistic facilities like Brookfield in Chicago, too.
I think of this time of year as Tumblr’s Annual Pumpkining of the Animals Post.
“Last night a Maasai guide discovered a one of a kind genetically mutated baby zebra in the Maasai Mara and named it after his surname - Tira. This morning we were one of the first ones to visit Tira! A few years ago there was a similar case, however that zebra still maintained the stripes and brush-like tail. Tira, however, has patterns that appear as polka dots! I hope the experts will look into this case and share some interesting discoveries soon!”

This video highlights an infestation of invasive catfish in Blue Spring State Park in Florida. These non-native fish are causing serious problems in the park...
This is the reality of those common plecos you see in the pet stores. This is how big they get and how dangerous they are when people release them.
For those that probably won’t watch it, they’re so bad that they physically hurt manatees. :(
I've been here. It's such an amazing experience to see manatees in the wild they're such unique creatures. Please never release any pets to the wild. It destroys ecosystems.
Am I the only one who’s parents did this? Let’s teach the next generation how to do better! ❤️
This clickbait is literally SO funny because while I get they wanted it to look intimidating, that's a fucking ringneck snake.
I guess it looks kind of scary if you dont know what it is. But the ringneck snake (called "southern ringneck" in Florida, where I live) is probably one of the most non-lethal and completely harmless snakes ever. They're not venomous, are nocturnal, and also....
ONLY GROW TO BE THIS FUCKING BIG. They're super tiny!!!! Adorable little things!!! They're just babies. And I love them with my whole heart.
How can you look at this thing, full grown and harmless, and be like "that thing is gonna kill me"? U can't. Is babie.
