Just noticed that ReadComicsOnline is down. It's been two months and might be permanent
It super sucks because that site wasn't just hosting the hottest, newest Marvel and DC stuff. It was hosting thousands of comics, a lot of which had been out of prints for years if not decades. You could find the most obscure things on that site, including European comics that are notoriously hard to get your hands on
It was an extremely valuable archive and none of the alternative comes close. It's a genuine cultural loss
I was experimenting with Mad Hatter’s design and this meme wouldn’t leave my head.
Batman #294
batman comics are always having batman casually say he's having the arkham patients psychologically tortured on his behalf

The DC fandom likes to call Matt Hagen gay in BTAS to rage about him being involved with women in the movie. He was bi in BTAS. He had a relationship with a woman after Teddy. And since it was only an "If you know, you know" kind of thing, never explicitly said because it was the 90's, it's no surprise they'd cut it from a COMIC BOOK movie, where their fanbase is loaded with sensitive Straight men.
They at least will NOT show or mention him being queer in the promotion of the movie, that is for damn sure!
the movie is based on the episode, if they wanted to do a movie based on the comics they could have, but they deliberate chose the name given to him in that episode and the version of his backstory that came with it
superhero characters are infinitely moldeable, which is their most interesting trait, but with the codification of gay marriage and the acceptance of same gender relationship depictions in children’s media, this could have been a great opportunity to bring an extremely intimate queer horror story to the big screen WITHOUT being forced to hide behind censorship, and with legitimate roots within the most collectively praised piece of batman media ever created
although the character may still be bisexual, with a different character simply adopting the original role of Matt Hagen’s only friend and partner, for whatever reason, it so far seems they’ve chosen not to do that. which is sad, unsurprising and ultimately, cowardly.
Marc Hempel ‘Spaceman: Daydreaming Can Be Dangerous’. I originally posted only the first page of this brilliant comic. Now here is the full illustrated story. Scanned from short lived sci-fi magazine Questar, February 1980.
I’m writing a science fiction art collection right now - gonna try to see if I can get this entire comic into it!
