PIT STOP #5

Eureka Springs, Arkansas

I drove the 7-8 hour stretch from Mt. Vernon to Eureka Springs. We got there about three o’clock just in time to spend a wonderful evening with Mr. Stan and Mr. Billy, our family friends who had moved out to Arkansas about eight years ago. For those years most of my family has been saying that we would come visit them and time and time again it passed. But finally in this trip we got to stop off, have dinner, and spend the night in their most adorable little town. Eureka Springs was once a prime destination because of its “healing” spring waters but now its a tourist destination with its adorable old american west town, numerous victorian homes, and curling one lane roads the spiral out through the sharp valleys. The town has a population of a little more than 2,000 people. Mr. Stan and Billy drove us through letting dad and i scoot out with our cameras and phones to snap images of teeny tiny victorian homes, the little store shops that looked like they were right out of a 1940s hollywood film, and the capped off springs. They told us that every year the town re-enacts the day all the shop owners shot a bank robber in the streets to keep him from stealing their money- which to tell you the truth looked as if we had paused the movie to drive our modern day vehicles through real quick. We even snaked up to a old haunted hotel at the crest of one of the valleys to see the brilliant view of the nestled Eureka Springs.

After our tour, we all sat out on their deck with a bit of white wine and mojitos. With good conversations and wonderful food, Dad and I caught up with good friends and enjoyed a beautiful cool evening. I can’t wait to come back and visit them and explore more of the little town of Eureka Springs!

PIT STOP #4

Mt. Vernon, Illinois

After Louisville, Dad and I hoped back on the freeway and headed out of Kentucky. After diving for a bit we crossed over into illinios and decided to stay the night in Mt. Vernon and take the next stretch through St. Louis onto Eureka Springs, AK the next day.
