"Forever a long time."
Love / Gaspar Noé
I wonder… All these mornings you’ve been sitting in my study. Sitting. Have you had any moments of stillness? Because you’re right, Ruben. The world does keep moving, and it can be a damn cruel place. But for me, those moments of stillness, that place — that’s the kingdom of God. And that place will never abandon you.
— Sound of Metal (2019) dir. Darius Marder
My Favorite Films of 2020
even despite the pandemic, limited films being released, and having virtually no mutuals interacting with me on this app - I still wanted to keep this tradition going by listing my favorite films from this godforsaken year.
I really can’t recommend all of these enough. Support cinema as much as you can right now!
The choreographer [Olivia Anselmo] is, to put it mildly, a couple of generations younger than me, so some of the steps, I could only stand there and look and say, “It looks fantastic. I have no idea how you do that.” So we took it down a little notch, and I added a beer in the hand for some of the steps, so the man had an excuse to stop dancing and then gradually he would lose the beer, and just lose himself as well. That was a nice approach, and she was wonderful to work with. It’s interesting—it’s been 30 years [since I was a dancer], and within those 30 years, so much has happened in that world. They look as if they’re flying, they’re floating. And I was like, “Yeah, great. Let’s add 30 years on that and see what will happen.” - Mads Mikkelsen on the dance sequence in Another Round (2020)
