for today i'm a wild creature ▲ yee ligh guh
When the ball tumbles over the horizon and into his lap, perhaps along with some hyena laughter and fond (if utterly unnecessary) coaxing, Meredith takes the vibrant event in stride easily - down to the other Elkwood's plans for a truly remarkable appearance on the scene. He's faced worse than a disgruntled animal - faced crowds of thousands and a manager that won't quite let The Petunias' short shorts era go, challenges of the past he'd deem, if asked, more daunting than a mount of any size - but in spite of Meredith's wild past, in spite of experiences with beasts far more exotic and exceedingly temperamental (because you see things when you try to make it big) -
- Meredith still has to ease his brow when they arrive at the hall, handing the reins off quick to a valet who'd probably been expecting...ah, something at least with wheels.
"A-ah, um," he starts; ends, "Please take care."
What follows is an exercise in wallflower fame, glasses passed to his hand turning to generous excuses for the tacit lilt of his brief replies to a myriad of queries. The elephants, on Elijah, on this EP or the rumors of a new album: occasionally, someone will press three or four fingers to his drawn-in shoulder, asking in a lower tone after his own wellbeing, but for the most part, questions are as flamboyant as Meredith's entrance - and just as apt to cause ripples, as Meredith takes halting steps towards the peace of the rose terraces in the upper levels.
By the time he's made it, his mask has ridden up, as dark as his hair and just as striking, highlighting the quick whites of his eyes, the slow crook of his mouth underneath the high rim. Noise, the likes of which Meredith is accustomed to, and a dark gaze sliding from sky to balcony to the shadow cast out from the inside. Three fingers grip the rim of a glass, smooth except for the mark of Meredith's mouth along the crystal edge.
"An admirer was asking after you," he uses to break the silence, rocking his drink with quiet sways of the clear chalice. "But she must not have looked for you very hard."
Elijah is hard to miss, even cloaked in an extra facade - though perhaps the ability to pick him out is something specific to Meredith, as so many things are.
