You Lot Are Insufferable
hi tumbleweed, what text editor do you use? <- definitely not hoping for a specific answer
editing text is a dirty fight for survival with blunt and barely functioning tools. maybe some day something will pick up helpless little me and push me into using something that does work for me.
hopefully that day comes eventually
#no one uses vi
you have found my only weakness (autism, object personification, need for harmony, being super easy provoked into a challenge, nostalgia and longing for computer tech i never used, ...) so i now have:
"get the build of traditional vi to work on my machine (hopefully just configure the Makefile, but i don't know how to do that right)"
on my list.
I've gotten this fork working by just commenting out line 195 of ex.h, but tumbleweed might behave slightly differently, so beware
Yuri tip: many Linux girls will kiss you if you also use Linux
however this only works if you're also a girl so get ready 💉
pacwoman came out. She's trans now.
This is true. Bc of woke.
its actually easy to de-enshittify your digital experience all you need to do is install this browser extension and this browser extension and this browser extension and input this custom script into the advanced box and go into your system settings and reconfigure all these options you didnt know existed and change your entire workflow and switch to this alternative operating system and this alternative web browser and this alternative chat client and this alternative word processor and this alternative- sorry that one turned out to be malware delete that one okay now double check your task manager for unwanted background processes and element block these ads and invest in a good VPN and append all your searches with AI blocking keywords and wait a few years until everything you just did becomes shitty too so you can do it all over again okay kitten. its literally that easy.
I mean, yeah, the lever that big software companies use to push garbage is that they offer convenience and ease of use. Back in ye olden times even casual end users were much more experienced in knowing how to cultivate their digital spaces and keep an eye on how their software changed, because that was kind of the only option. The brief decade or two where big companies were offering relatively decent and bespoke software environments lowered the need for that sort of active engagement with your technology, but it’s also a big part of why they’re able to run roughshod over their users now. You aren’t gonna build a workflow without developing the skills to do so because that era was a fluke of market acquisition anyhow.
I'm a big fan of developing tech literacy. I encourage people to learn how computers and programs and system administration work on at least a basic level and I think it should be more actively taught to people. However, it's going to be a difficult skill to learn for some people and it is time-intensive to do. Tech literacy is not a problem that is solvable on an individual scale and neither is services getting worse. This shit is hard, don't knock people who are rightly frustrated! These are ultimately political problems that require political solutions and that's where we should focus our efforts and frustrations.
"It is time-intensive to do" is questionably true, partially, because time doesn't have the same cost for everyone, and it even changes a lot for people.
Making educational 'content' that is enjoyable for people is important. You won't have to learn what a kernel is, if H4ck3rGuyyy from the movie HackerGuyyy (you can find it on Poob) explains what each levels of the operating system do and why it is vulnerable when hacking the enemy servers. This is why people do and should get mad at public media not being informative/accurate even if enjoyable.
Also Flow charts are a lovely for every kind of (open source) software, please make them! This is also true for block/visual coding languages. <3
Well, yes, time doesn't have the same cost for everyone and it will change based on a whole host of factors. But if you're going on the post of someone who's already frustrated about the time and cognitive investment and downplaying that or saying it's necessary, you've missed the point of the post. And if you're recommending a 14-point list on a vent post, you have actively become part of the problem.
Also, entertainment is hardly a solution to education. I think you overestimate how interesting a show is going to be if they stop halfway through to explain SQL injection!
Also can I say block programming doesn't make anything easier past learning syntax. Labview, for example, makes me want to hurt people
On god some 👀of y'all should just Fuck nd stop bitching about it like
how often are you supposed to update an arch system? tbh i forget and i think i need to do it way more than i actually do
Hehe sometimes
Why don't you use JavaScript about it
Why is everyone so mad that I decided to learn JavaScript? I have to if I want to finish my associates degree.

Update on my Linux journey;
-
Cons:
Still am trapped in corporate jail (the windows partition) to serve my remaining sentence (adobe won't run on wine here and that software library is still the industry standard)
Making playlists on WACUP is now a bitch and a half thanks to Wine, and I should have backed them up earlier. No, I will not consider the alternatives; it'll be a frigid day in the final stretches of Hell before I give online radios up
Much to my chagrin, Gemini has been my lifeline here
Pros:
The fuck do you mean I could just download Aseprite Like ThatTM?
The bootup is lightning fast
Once I get the time I WILL make the frutiger aero/heisei retro rice of my dreams
Actually not taking up as much space as I thought it would :O
Anything that does go wrong is actually my blunder this time
Aseprite is open source
so is deleting it
"Call the sysadmin, the server's down again" *girl wearing Xenia t-shirt appears from the shadows* "I'm not cis, and don't call him admin"
