💀 — [ attempt to razz Steve has left him immobile and small rather than feisty, allowing Cesare to get so close with no means of catching him! he has no choice but to COMMIT TO THE BIT.

his own nerves give him a moment of hesitation, one last opportunity for his rival to play some trick or run away … then, cold, dead hands reach up and ASSERTIVELY clasp his -- with a resounding wet SMACK that earns a visible shudder. ]

“ HOLY swimmer's hands -- aaand a DANCER'S GRACE! Just, uh, just need papa bird to help you out of the nest! ” [ one hand awkwardly tugs his over his shoulder, then snaking his own to rest on his upper back. taking a step, he waits for him to follow suit. ]

eyes fly open at the force of the smack, his bony hands having no give. he freezes in place at the contact, the chill of cesare's hands coupled with his unease causing a fullbody shiver as hair stands on end, not unlike a startled cat.

hands instinctively squeeze his tighter as cesare steps forward, feet practically cemented to the ground. there's a moment's pause as eyes come to focus, glancing down at the ground as his brain scrambles to catch up. he keeps his eyes averted as he takes a stiff step in return, unable to look his opponent — dance partner ? — in the eye.

[ fingers were crossed behind his back ( as if he believed in karma, ) before both arms are extended out wide. naturally, he takes Steve's clear disgruntlement as an invitation to approach. ]

steve admits defeat with a begrudging sigh. he knows there's no winning this, not that he could protest much if given the opportunity besides.

nerves begin to overtake apprehension as he realizes he has no idea what to do. he shrinks into himself ( a genuine slight decrease in size to the well trained eye ) as he stands still, uneasily watching his rival approach him. hands awkwardly search for their place in the air, steve grumbling nothing to himself. after some floundering, they settle jutted out to his side in a t - like position, palms already clammy from sweat.

" thank you. " it comes out as more of a wheeze than an actual sentence. how was he supposed to know what that word had meant ? it had been five seconds of stuttering before he'd panicked, ' poofing ' himself back into the safety of his truck. whether or not billie's statement was actually meant to be assuring, he took it as such.
