astarion died to a devil with the extra boss encounter mod I have installed and Iām making it canon in Sybellaās worldstate that after grandpa withers bring him back is when she gets the vampire reveal
okay so I donāt really play dnd outside of bg3 so idk how well this would actually work but Iāve been playing with the idea of a homebrew ranger subclass for Sybella thatās a cross of fey wanderer/swarmkeeper ranger and idk if itās just because of Sybellaās proximity to divinity as durge or just the way the ranger class plays but it almost feels like Iām cheating with this mix
okay nvm it doesnāt seem that bad anymore now that Iāve gotten it all written out

eternally baffled by the grove in bg3 act 1. i feel like bg3 would be so much less of a railroaded experience if they had decided to write an even conflict here in which you could take one of two sides, and i feel like there are enough traces left that they initially were planning to do that, but then they cut the druid route for whatever internal reason, wrote the druids to completely be in the wrong so nobody would want it (and the druids truly do suck so much), and then they said ok here are your options: save the tieflings, side with the Inherently Evil goblins who do torture and massacres, or uhhh play less game and make everything really difficult for yourself.
i know iām eternally stuck in act 1 and i probably give it way more relevance than people who actually moved on to the rest of the game, but iām always kind of continually stunned by how praised bg3 is for rpg storytelling and how few real choices there are in like the entire first act of the game. if you want a fleshed out, non-cartoonishly-evil experience, there is essentially one route. a route that is kind of baffling for a lot of player characters to pursue, given the life-threatening, urgent situation that is theoretically bg3ās whole premise, which cuts down severely on the type of character you can play, as itās gotta be someone who would do this. the plot of the act, the plot of the overarching game, and the game mechanics of As Many Long Rests As You Like :), all feel completely at odds with each other. (and it also has to be said that this one route, the nice feel-good heroic one, is Go And Massacre The Whole Camp Of This Fantasy Race Who Are All Evil And Stupid And Gross Inherently. The Kids Too. Itās Fine. Theyāre Bad.)
there are so many aspects of this game that are brilliant, but i find it hard to grasp how the weaknesses of the main plot, and the lack of room for actual roleplaying and choices in a roleplaying game, donāt come under more fire. and the openness of the map and being able to do whatever you want in whatever creative way and whatever orderāa major selling point of the game, and larianās big strength!āoften just plays against this type of storytelling. if you long rest at the wrong points or speak to the wrong npc first, you can just lose out on content for no real gain. and way too many choices simply decide whether you will get content later or you wonāt, rather than between two different interesting things that could happen. does making a lot of things that players can accidentally miss out on really qualify as adding replayability?
i played just a little of larianās divinity: original sin 2 a while back and i was actually really startled to get into the opening act and find that there was a clear character-driven goalāescape the prison where you startāand tons of different routes for how to proceed. it played to larianās strengths rather than undercutting them, expecting the same creativity and out-of-the-box thinking in your decision-making as it encourages in your gameplay, asking you to explore whatās around you and make your own plan for how to take advantage of it, with a bunch of different options that can all work. i canāt speak for the rest of d:os2 any more than i can really speak for the rest of bg3, but itās strange to know that they were capable of better before they ever made bg3, and while i donāt usually happen to take much interest in the actual production process of the games i play, i guess i do want to know what exactly hamstrung them to lead to what we got. i donāt particularly get the impression they were ever less racist though

Saw a photo of a hand. Wanted to paint it. Decided it needed a rosary.

one more thing. if a character ascends to godhood/divinity/some form of power that makes them practically omnipotent and no longer human. and they had a partner before that who didnāt rise with them. you are legally required to make that situation as terrifying as it would rightly be. itās bad enough to get the attention of a god. it is ruinous to be loved by one. that is not the person you knew anymore. that is something that never has to let you leave, or have secrets, or disobey it. it will fix every problem you so much as glance at, and it will shower you in grace and gifts until you drown, and it will make you a holy artifact in its own story. you have to understand, it doesnāt remember how horrible death is, so it strikes you to cinders like a snide comment and brings you back with an apology it needs you to accept. that is how itās going to love you forever, because it might not be inclined to let you die.
backstory change for Molāzyne- she was born well before the time of troubles and Bhaalās death as his Original Insurance Policyā¢ļø, all the other bhaalspawn were just him being extra, and when he made her a drow to hide the largest portion of divinity under Lolthās nose in a place where murder and violence is expected and encouraged Eilistraee saw Molāzyne said āactually can I have that? I need itā and did not wait for an answer making herself Molāzyneās mother
i cannot believe none of you guys told me that scratch can climb the stairs??
