THIS IS WILDĀ
i genuinely donāt think taylorās voice has EVER sounded this good before. like, her voice suits this genre and this kind of music PERFECTLY
Taylor Swiftās Albums 2006-2020
the next time someone tries to use one of taylorās lyrically-repetitive songs as an example of her not being a good songwriter im going to smack them over the head with folklore and hope that the lyricism spreads to their brain through osmosis from the impact
folklore as polaroids.
Most of the things I had planned this summer didnāt end up happening, but there is something I hadnāt planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise š¤Tonight at midnight Iāll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs Iāve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into. I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine; Aaron Dessner (who has co-written or produced 11 of the 16 songs), Bon Iver (who co-wrote and was kind enough to sing on one with me), William Bowery (who co-wrote two with me) and Jack Antonoff (who is basically musical family at this point). Engineered by Laura Sisk and Jon Low, mixed by Serban Ghenea & Jon Low. The album photos were shot by the amazing Beth Garrabrant. Before this year I probably wouldāve overthought when to release this music at the āperfectā time, but the times weāre living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. Thatās the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so muchĀ ā„ļø
folklore will have 16 songs on the standard edition, but the physical deluxe editions will include a bonus track called āthe lakes.ā Because this is my 8th studio album, I made 8 deluxe CD editions and 8 deluxe vinyl editions that are available for one week š Each deluxe edition has unique covers, photos, and artwork. Available exclusively here.
The music video for ācardiganā will premiere tonight, which I wrote/directed. A million thank youās to my brilliant, bad ass video team - Cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, producer Jil Hardin, executive producer Rebecca Skinner, AD Joe āOzā Osbourne, editor Chancler Haynes, special effects wizards David Lebensfeld & Grant Miller and set designer Ethan Tobman. The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling šĀ
In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness. Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. Iāve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve. Now itās up to you to pass them down. folklore is out now.

I knew you tried to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy. The #cardiganMusicVideo is out now. Watch it here.
You can get the bonus song āthe lakesā on the 8 deluxe CD editions, 8 deluxe vinyl editions, and the cassette edition of folklore that are available here. šĀ

āThe only thing she said to me initially was that she didnāt want me to worry about anything that sheād done before and that I should just be myself ā just inhabit the emotional space that youāre feeling or your musical and emotional space. And so I really didnāt endeavor to become Max Martin or whoever. I was just sort of being myself. And so was she. I think sheās incredibly versatile, obviously. A lot of these songs, they sound to me as though she could have been doing this all along in her career, this kind of sound or something. Itās not at all unnatural. In fact, it sounds incredible. This is all complete. Itās finished. It feels produced, but I think it will feel fairly organic or raw compared to past things. At some point, Taylor did articulate her vision for folklore. Other songs came after that. I was very inspired by her and what sheād been writing, and then I wrote more music, and she responded to that. We just started to push aheadā¦Sheās just an absolutely brilliant artist. Allowing her to flourish like that, there was no pressure. She wasnāt trying to make something for anyone else except for herself in this time. I donāt think even her label knew. We were just working. Thatās maybe the liberating. When you put something in the pipeline of the music industry and it takes months of prep ā not to take anything away from that because itās important, especially if youāre coming up and you donāt have an audience. But once you do, I think itās nice to play around the form of it. The world is a different place right now, and nobody really knows. All the rules are being rewritten. Live music is not happening. And in a way, itās nice to make something and just put it out because people are stuck at home and being able to hear something. This will be a really positive gift for her fans.ā
ā Aaron Dessner on folklore (x)
She recorded her vocals at the Kitty Committee Studios. This woman created a whole studio at home and gave it a name. This is so on brand.Ā
