What am I supposed to do?

I want to make a fanvideo for The Hobbit but the only available HD video format is MKV which my Sony Vegas isn’t supporting. Is there a another HD version in different format out there so I could start vidding them? Or maybe someone knows a good video converter? PLEASE HELP!

good video converter for windows

does anyone know a good video converter to use so i can convert mpg files to avi so i can add them onto windows movie maker 2.6? i have windows 7 and i already had an avi file that worked, so it’s gotta be that these files are all mpg. otherwise… i’m at a complete loss.
