How was the Nigerian Civil War fought?
The Nigeria Civil War was fought like any other conflict, bloody, and destructive. I would rather prefer to refer to it as the Biafran War, the right to self-determination should never be undermined.
The war was fought between the Republic of Biafra and the Nigerian Federation.
Theย Nigerian Civil Warย (6 July 1967 โ 15 January 1970; also known as theย Nigerian-Biafran Warย or theย Biafran War) was aย civil warย fought between the government ofย Nigeriaย and theย Republic of Biafra, aย secessionistย state which had declared its independence from Nigeria in 1967. Nigeria was led by Generalย Yakubu Gowon, whileย Biafraย was led by Lt. Colonelย Odumegwu Ojukwu.ย Biafraย represented the nationalist aspirations of theย Igboย ethnic group, whose leadership felt they could no longer coexist with the federal government dominated by the interests of the Muslimย Hausa-Fulanisย of northern Nigeria. The conflict resulted from political, economic, ethnic, cultural and religious tensions which preceded Britain's formalย decolonizationย ofย Nigeriaย from 1960 to 1963. Immediate causes of the war in 1966 included ethno-religious violence andย anti-Igboย pogroms inย Northern Nigeria,ย a military coup,ย a counter-coupย andย persecution of Igboย living in Northern Nigeria. Control over the lucrativeย oil productionย in theย Niger Deltaย also played a vitalย strategicย role
