i do not really believe that young dean protected sam from john 24/7 because john mentions in his journal that dean almost hit sam after sam told them he was going to college. dean and john both were physically abusive to young sam.

THIS!! + A lot of people keep saying Dean was just a victim of the system and that John abused him badly, but that take is so delulu. We never actually see John be physically abusive toward Dean the way we see with Sam.

More then that, Dean doesn’t just accept the system – he actively encourages and supports it. It works for him. It doesn’t mean it was healthy, but Dean thrived in it and helped keep it going.

And John’s & Dean’s dynamic is more like buddies or soldiers – buddies who would share their little wife Sam and a beer after the hunt 💗

the thing about mommy sam that we must never forget is that she is her brotherhusbands biggest enabler. she will make excuses for him every single time. i love this scene because it is peak battered!wife sam trying to justify to their son why daddy is scary and violent (he doesn't mean it, really, his wires just get crossed sometimes)

there is something genuinely horrific about sam finding relief in his abuser's arms. this is the point of no return for him. he was driven to suicide by his guilt, self-punishment, and dean's manipulation and emotional abuse in season 8. episode 8x23 is when we begin to see the start of sam's stockholm syndrome, and why he could never truly try to leave dean again in later seasons.

i wish sam had been able to get away, but i love watching her suffer.
