It was Breakdown’s turn to head out for patrol, and he was glad for the excuse to get off base. He still wasn’t certain everyone liked him on base. Now he knew how Drift must have felt before Cybertron went dark.

Nodding at Ratchet, he transformed, and raced through the ground bridge, ending up somewhere looking rather desert-like. Immediately he transformed; someone was here. He could smell the energon.

“Reveal yourself, ‘Con, and this will go a lot more quickly.”

Because of his defection, Breakdown is now afraid that any and all Megatrons want to kill him, so he does his best to avoid them at all costs.

Receiving the coordinates, Breakdown approached the space bridge, and entered them. A portal opened up near Riptide and the massive dark blue mech walked through.

    “Whoa,” Riptide barely voiced, nearly stepping closer to the portal when it’d opened. His hand dropped as soon as the mech stepped through, the hydrobot vaguely aware that the massive being could tear him limb from limb. “Oh Hell, how am I supposed to hide you?”

    He stepped forward and scanned over Breakdown, mouth slightly pursed in thought. “We have to go to my room and get you a sticker,” he said then turned sharply to lead the ex-Decepticon along. The realization of how terrible of an idea this was would hit him later, probably once he managed to get thoroughly wasted with his new ‘pal’. 

    “If anybody asks, you’re a new guy. Unless it’s Ultra Magnus or Megatron, but I really doubt we’ll run into them. We may run into Rodimus though, just compliment him or something.”

He cocked his helm to one side, raising an optic ridge. “Ultra Magnus is here? Gotta be a different one from mine, Ultra Magnus was back at base.” It was then that he registered the other name. “Frag! Megatron’s here?”

Breakdown quickly whirled around, panic evident on his face plates. After the last few years, Megatron still scared the navy blue mech. Unfortunately, the space bridge had already closed behind him, as he’d set it to do.

Attempting to disguise his terror as rage, he turned back around, shouting, “You tricked me! He’s gonna kill me! Why would you tell me this is an Autobot ship when that warlord’s at the helm? I’m a traitor to the Decepticon cause! He’s gonna kill me!”

He shook his helm. “I was fairly certain they’d been killed just ahead of the last main exodus from Cybertron, along with some of the other bigger bots. Overlord. Black Shadow. Destructor. Nobody’s heard from them, or the DJD, in two million years.”

"Maybe in your verse, they were… but they weren’t in my verse. I’ve met a Helex and some Shattered Glass DJD mechs who have been kind to me, but the rest… I hide from, you know? Don’t want to die again…"

Breakdown nodded, remaining silent for a moment. He’d heard things about the fates of his alternates, and thus knew exactly how Flywheels felt. He avoided Airachnid like his spark depended upon it - which very likely it did. “Yeah, I, uh. I know how that feels. Never died myself, but there’s a femme named Airachnid in every universe, she’s killed the Breakdown in almost every one except my universe. I’ve... learned to avoid her.”

Breakdown hadn’t been an Autobot very long, but already concerns that had never plagued him as a Decepticon were weighing down his processor. He didn’t know where to turn. He couldn’t go to Bulkhead - they’d been fighting so long, he was fairly certain punching Breakdown in the face was a far more likely response from the big, green Wrecker than actual advice was.

All things considered, Optimus was his most likely source of sound advice at the moment. Slightly nervous, he approached the Big Bot. “Uh... sir?”

Starscream banked in the air, gliding down toward the ground at a leisurely pace. He transformed at the last second, landing with a light thud near a rocky outcrop. The seeker stretched indulgently, wings fanning out behind him as wiring and joints creaked. He was getting low on fuel; but not low enough to make him panic.

“Now…” The seeker mused aloud, “Just where am I?”

“That’s a fine way to greet a mech,” Breakdown responded, pulling into view, but not transforming out of his vehicle mode. “The locals around here aren’t all friendly, you may want to keep your cover.”

Oh, slag. It was her. The one human that had even more reason to hate him than any other.

He knew that their last meeting hadn’t exactly been on the friendliest of terms - and that had been his fault. She had every reason to fear and hate him. Now, however, he was a changed mech, the mercies shown to him by the Autobots, the ruthlessness and abandonment of the Decepticons, it had all worked together to help Breakdown reroute his allegiances and swap out the Decepticon logo on his aft for an Autobot logo.

Not knowing what else to do, he got down on one knee, bowed his helm, and laid his right forearm over his left thigh in a gesture of submission and respect. He kept his gaze low, looking at the ground by her feet rather than directly at her.“I, uh. About, the uh, Greece thing. With the stone pillar, and the ‘pet’ remark, and, uh… Yeah, I don’t have an excuse. Much as it hurts to admit when I’m wrong, I uh, I’m sorry.”

With the Decepticons, such a gesture of respect had been expected, and Breakdown had always blatantly refused, having far too much pride for such a humbling gesture. Now, however, needing to prove to himself - and to the Autobots - that he could be a good mech, he fell back on all the old gestures he’d once so proudly refused.

➤Ⅱ She wasn’t happy about this one bit. Breakdown, joining the Autobots? At first she’d thought it was some sort of trick, some joke being pulled that just hadn’t finished yet. But when Bulkhead had brought her aside a few hours before to explain that no, it wasn’t a joke and he really was going to be staying with them from now on, she got angry.

How can they trust him so easily? After everything he’s done! Just like that, switching sides? Just like that? Stupid! Stupid, stupid stupid! She thought, glaring at the ground and crossing her arms. Even Jack and Raf seemed fine with it— couldn’t they see this was all wrong? Breakdown wasn’t supposed to be an Autobot! He was supposed to be a con and get his butt kicked by Bulkhead! 

But she’d soon started to realize that that wasn’t going to be the case. He really was here for good, like it or not. She wasn’t prepared for him to suddenly drop down in front of her, however. And she most certainly wasn’t prepared for him to apologize. She glared at him the entire time he did, only growing annoyed by his so called humble display. 

After all, what if it was just all an act? 

“…. whatever.” Miko mumbled, huffing. “You might be staying here, but you’re not an Autobot.”

There he was, already on his feet, ready to run. This wasn’t going well, and all signs pointed towards it just getting worse. She had every reason to reject him, and not just on account of what he’d done to her, either. His history was full of attempts to beat, humiliate, and otherwise kill the mech she valued above all others. He considered himself lucky he’d encountered Miko first, and not Bulkhead.
