This is, believe it or not, a friendly warning.
Calling Ed abusive or what he did at the start of season 2 "domestic abuse" will get you blocked by most of this fandom. It's been dissected to death, including by licensed professional therapists who deal with actual abuse victims, and it is very far from "textbook domestic abuse". Read it that way if you wish, but I'm here to warn you it will make you extremely unpopular and you will be blocked by almost everybody. It slots right into a lot of deeply racist takes centering Izzy over Ed that this fandom has had to deal with in the past. Those takes have led to racist attacks, doxxing, and a lot of POC fans being driven out. As a result, that take will not make you popular with anyone outside the ones who did that attacking.
I will say it's a good thing you haven't called Ed an irredeemable monster that deserved to die for what he did to Izzy. That's usually the part two of any take that starts with Ed is domestically abusing Izzy in season 2.
I also suggest you read through the archive at canonizzyhours.tumblr.com. The site was created in the wake of the attacks I mentioned, by Izzy fans, to safely discuss actual canon Izzy, not the racism-fueled fanon version. There are several posts on this exact topic, and many more, and perhaps reading through them and their comments/tags will help you see why calling Ed abusive is such a deeply unpopular take.
Thanks for the thinly veiled threat warning. Fortunately though, as someone who's actually watched the show, I've already addressed this.
I have a good idea of who probably sent this. While I don't deny that there's probably some unhinged Izzy fans out there who have said some racist ass shit, the people I've personally witnessed doxxing and driving POC out of this fandom are Izzy antis (mostly who are white) talking down to POC about how they should feel about these characters.
I'm not going tell anyone who is POC how they should or should not feel about these characters. That is not my place.
I will say this though: there is an implication that Ed is incapable of abuse due to his race. This is what is known to anyone with any critical thinking skills called racism of low expectations.
Being blocked by "most of this fandom" (which in reality is a small handful of users who are known to go around yelling at people who do not engage with the show the same way they do - which we already have a mutual block anyway so good riddance!) does not phase me.
I do appreciate this line though: "I will say it's a good thing you haven't called Ed an irredeemable monster that deserved to die for what he did to Izzy. That's usually the part two of any take that starts with Ed is domestically abusing Izzy in season 2."
I agree that's a messed up take, and goes entirely against the thesis of season 2. Izzy did some fucked up shit to Ed. He was an emotional abuser all throughout season 1. I know some people lack reading comprehension when I have repeatedly stated and acknowledged this (that or they just want to pick a fight). Ed also did some fucked up shit to his crew (and Izzy) in season 2. The entire thesis of season 2 is that people who did fucked up shit are still worthy of love.
I hope this ask was in good faith. But if this came from who I think it did, I highly doubt it.
You have a lovely day too.
