While finishing up my website redesign, I’ve been going through a bunch of my older work. And you know what? I kinda like it. Which is super odd for me. Like “someone is holding me at knife point and forcing me to write this” odd. This weirdo here is the ghost of Count Orsloth, aka Slothferatu, emerging from the forest from within a green mist. Like in the book, Dracula. Just with a sloth 🦥🧛🏻‍♂️ Makes complete sense. Plus, look at his face 😂 Completely absurd. I DIG IT.

Bullies. I can’t stand em. I’ve even BEEN one for a short period of time. Yep. Result of my parent’s divorce. The person I bullied is now a lifelong friend 🌟 We “bully” in our lives to assume some form of control. I’ve spent a lifetime doing my best to make sure no one in my presence is ever again bullied. It’s something that’s always driven me. Speaking of driving, Stephen King didn’t like bullies much either. So much so, he wrote about a car that got the ultimate revenge on bullies. It murdered them. Of course it has all the hot rod (literally lol) classic car tropes and teenage dynamics of the 50’s. Rebel youth. Shit we can forever relate to. However, in my opinion, Christine feels like it’s less about a killer car, and more about death. Death of your childhood. Death of your family. Death of innocence. After all, good art is about how we relate to it and what we take from it. This was also adapted into one of my absolute favorite Carpenter films. When this scene comes along… the raging inferno of “Christine”… stalking her owner’s bully down the highway at night… getting the ultimate revenge… well I think we can all relate to a time when we would have wanted to see that happen to our own “bully”. If you ever heard my dad describe a sunset, you never would have looked at another one the same way. He loved every single sunset like it was his last. So cinematic. Dramatic. I inherited that shit. Ten fold. And it sucks lol. It’s pervaded my existence. Contributed to a melancholy. Every memorable memory I have is washed in dramatic light. Sometimes I don’t recall anything from an experience other than the lighting. The first WORD I spoke was light 😂 It’s also why I hate noon. The most boring, least dramatic time of day. Anyway… here’s a watercolor I did a little while ago and just forgot to post. “Rabbit’s Moon”. 5”x7” on paper. I first saw this short film - by Kenneth Anger - in a “secret room” at Versailles restaurant in Miami, fittingly with the @secretcelluloidsociety 🦉 My friend played it before a showing of “White Zombie”. I was transfixed. I couldn’t tell you much else about the night other than this part of the film (maybe the food too). The Pierrot clown. The magick lantern. The moon. So cinematic. Dramatic. Melancholy. Remember trick or treating? Going out on Halloween night. All dressed up. Screaming at your neighbors in order to get that candy. And hopefully the good stuff. Like full size Twix. Then once you had enough candy - or your younger sibling started crying - you’d mosey on back home and count your Reese’s peanut butter cups, blow out the Jack o’ lanterns, and head on to bed. But something used to run through my mind once I was under the covers. What about the boogeyman? Where does he go on Halloween night? I always wanted to stay out trick or treating a little longer; in hopes that I’d maybe see his pale wrinkled face with black hole eyes peering at me from beside a neighbor’s house. Or maybe his scabby, pasty hand peeking from behind the pine tree behind my house. I thought the later you stayed out, the closer his gruesome hands came to snatching you up. Maybe that’s where those missing kids on the milk cartons went. They trick or treated for just a little too long 🫣 Halloween is right around the corner. It’s the boogeyman’s time!
