Artists from A-Z: Animal Feelings
For this first post about my favourite artists from A to Z I chose Animal Feelings
I first heard about him through another artist called Thief.
I think I’d been listening to Thief for about 2 years when I saw this song on Soundcloud called ‘Fire’, which was a piano re-work by this artist called Animal Feelings featuring Thief.
I was in love with that song! I think I even commented on it saying it was beautiful ^^
After releasing the original version of this song on his self-titled debut album in 2016, he later released this piano re-work as a track on his second album from 2017 called ‘Love Cubes’
BUT! As far as I remember, he put the piano re-work up on soundcloud before he even released his debut album - I think he later removed that version I initially heard when he released ‘Love Cubes’ and put that up on soundcloud. Don’t hang me up on that, after all, my memory can be a little fuzzy sometimes.
He has co-operated with a lot of different artists, both on his full-length albums but also on a couple of singles, including Nomi Ruiz, Mammals and Morgxn, (and Thief, of course) just to name a few.
Style/Genre/Sound:
I’m really terrible at describing the genres and styles of specific artists (which makes making these kinds of posts kind of challenging), but I’ll try my best.
Animal Feelings primarily makes electronic music, although his most recent album ‘Love Cubes’ is more acoustic, with a lot of quiet piano playing the main melody on most of the songs. It’s a very calming, chill album that I love to put on when I’m trying to relax.
His first album is a little more electronic, I would say. But still very easy to listen to - not that it’s simple music, it’s just very soothing to listen to his transitions and the little details in the timbre of every instrument.
I feel like the two albums he’s released at this point in time perfectly show the two sides that I’ve noticed in his music - The quiet, calming, more acoustic sound of ‘Love Cubes’ and the more up-beat, electronic, experimental sound of his debut album. But somehow they both blend so well together - you hear that especially in the single ‘Falling (feat, Thief)’
If you like up-beat electronic I highly recommend checking out ‘Let Go (feat. Yulia’ (from his first album) and ‘Pain au chocolat’ (his most recent single, which I adore!). And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can go to his soundcloud and check out his song ‘STOP ZOMBIE! (feat. Ellika)’
I’m pretty sure that’s the only place you can find that song, and I think it’s a shame ‘cause it’s such a good jam! All the other songs I mention are on soundcloud.
If you more of a ‘calming-melancholic’ type, I recommend listening to his single ‘Lonely (feat. Morgxn)’, and the song I mentioned earlier; ‘Falling (feat. Thief)’. Or you can even just listen to any song from ‘Love Cubes’ :)
Apart from that I of course reccomend ‘Fire (feat. Thief)’ - both the album version, and the piano-rework - because the first song I hear with one of my favourite artists always has a special place in my heart ^^
