I KNEW dan and phil would understand the importance of shane needing to say it out loud to someone. most reactions I’ve watched, people just kind of laugh along with ilya and they don’t get where shane is coming from and it makes me feel insane

People claiming cutgate isn't possible are wild to me, because this absolutely could and does happen. The final cut probably went up to some studio exec who wasn't involved in the process until the end to give final say, and he threw a tantrum and demanded they go back to the editing room to gut the show. This kind of thing happens in corporate America ALL THE TIME. I've seen it with my own eyes. And let's not forget Netflix is a product of Silicon Valley first and Hollywood second. The fact that vol 1 was finalised in the summer and vol 2 didn't complete edits until several days before the drop is telling. It's entirely possible the writers and editors scrambled for months to act on instructions to rip the heart out of the show and patch it back up in a way that passed muster. They obviously failed. We all saw how incongruous and off vol 2 was. But plenty of the GA didn't. They thought it was maybe a little lacklustre but enjoyed enough of it to watch benignly and move on to their next mindless watch. At the end of the day, I'd much rather believe homophobia at the c-suite level destroyed this show than the writers room was mysteriously lobotomised or maliciously retconned us for grins. And sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. How else do we explain any of this? I just hope it gets exposed someday and spells the downfall of netflix for good.
I fully believe that there were massive last-minute cuts made by Netflix, and the leaked runtimes are one of the biggest clues.
Here are the leaked runtimes:
The Volume 1 runtimes matched the official runtimes perfectly.
But the Volume 2 leaked runtimes are completely different from what we ended up getting.
We were robbed of four movie-length episodes.
Another thing:
Ross posted the official Volume 2 runtimes just TWO DAYS before release. Compare that to Volume 1, where the runtimes were shared over a month and a half in advance.
That timing difference is huge, and it’s hard to believe it’s a coincidence. Something clearly changed at the last minute.
Please spread the word and sign the petition.
THE ISSUE: STRANGER THINGS SEASON 5 VOLUME TWO has evidently been tampered with. Allegedly there have been entire plotlines and characters a

about cutgate:
this theory is insane. we have to call a spade a spade. claiming that this show had an entirely different course of narrative that got cut substantially, and subsequently ruined everyone’s credibility, IS insane.
the implications of this being true are very big. it means this show was tanked on purpose. it means some serious homophobia was going down behind the scenes. it means they were scrambling to save this show.
it’s not realistic. you can’t cut THAT many scenes, that many major plot points, and still have it be cohesive and coherent like it was (albeit poorly done).
and yes, promo for this show straight up lied about what content we would be getting. but a lot of this promo, and many of these promises, were given to us around the time of the premiere—weeks before season 5 aired. them cutting this much content a week or even a month in advance of the premiere is simply not possible. it’s just not.
scripts need to be approved before filming. they need to be reviewed and go through multiple rounds of revisions. do some scenes get cut after they’ve already been filmed and edited? absolutely. in fact, that’s common. we know they cut mike biking home after they find wills body in season 1. we also know they add scenes mid-filming, like with the will and jonathan heart to heart in season 4. but these are scenes that don’t change the narrative arc and structure of the show. major scenes, major plots, and this many of them getting cut? no.
a variation of “cutgate” likely happened. in the writing room when they were brainstorming. on the editing floor after filming. but not to this extent. if netflix really didn’t want certain plots to be happening, it would have gotten addressed way before it made it to the final editing stage.
i hate to burst your bubble, and i’m not saying it’s impossible, but i AM saying this isn’t how film works.
okay, now that i’m seeing people actually talk about this i want to add my two cents because the night before volume 2 was released i thought i was going insane because i noticed that suddenly the run times for all three episodes on imdb were SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than they were even a week ago.
I am a pretty avid imdb user, and as someone who enjoyed volume 1 and was really looking forward to volume 2, weeks before the volume was released i looked at the run times on imdb and i SWEAR one of the episodes was close to two hours long with all three of them being around an hour and a half long at least.
Also considering volume 1 was 4 episodes long and volume 2 was only 3, i added up the total amount of minutes for volume 1 and (because i’m insane) compared it to the total run time of the three episodes of volume 2. Volume 1’s run time is 283 minutes or approximately 4 hours and 45 minutes. LAST WEEK WHEN I COMPARED IT TO THE RUN TIME OF VOLUME 2, i VIVIDLY remember volume 2 being significantly longer than volume 1; it was well over 300 minutes of content. The total run time for the three episodes added up to over 5 hours. I am not making up remembering being excited for technically having more content in this volume.
Now imagine how I felt when I on Christmas Eve (again because I’m insane and this is just how my brain works) went on imdb and noticed the run times suddenly changed drastically. Adding up the new run times, Volume 2 is now 209 minutes long, or about 3 hours long.
This happened recently. I cannot be the only one who noticed this. And now hearing people talk about it i feel like I’m being gaslit. But i SWEAR those times on imdb changed. I remember adding them up in my calculator literally a week and a half ago. Something happened within the last week. Over an hour of content was cut.
thank god for heated rivalry because they made up for the absolute slop that was volume 2 of stranger things
