heard a story on a podcast that some Christian missionaries showed these rural Cambodian farmers how to double their crop yields. the missionaries came back a year later and were surprised the Cambodians had grown basically the same amount of crops but the farmers were like “yeah this is great, we got everything we need for the year and only had to do half as much work”

It’s sad that actual efficiency means nothing but work hours apparently do. Like, if I can do the same out of work in 2 hours or 8 hours, I’m going to do it in 2 hours, because I got all the work done, and I now get to relax. It’s insane how we’ve built up a culture of working ourselves to death and then gaslit ourselves into thinking that it’s all okay and that anyone who points out the GLARINGLY OBVIOUS FLAWS in that system is just a lazy, whiny bum. If you want to go above and beyond and do extra work, more power to ya, but forcing a society to universally adopt that mentality is asinine and cruel.
