❛ you didn't hear a word of what i just said, did you? ❜ - Paulie to Chimney
RANDOM DIALOGUE SENTENCE STARTERS.
✘ — Wow...!
Chimney raised her hand over her eyes, taking in the sight with her jaw fallen open, her expression of awe shared with Gonbe, her cat sitting upon her shoulder to an even better view. She could see all of Water 7 from up here ! She could even see Shift Station in the distance ! A-may-zing !
Some seagulls caught her attention, two birds were locked in fierce battle over a piece of Mizu Mizu Meat, chasing after each other in reckless abandon that had her grinning. She was just about to cheer them on when she finally remembered that someone had been talking to her before the vista had caught her eyes.
" Uh... ! Aheheh... " Chimney laughed sheepishly, looking back down towards the man and rubbing the back of her neck – the small movement threatening Chimney's balance atop the precariously swaying steel beam in the middle of the shipyard that she had climbed up on.
"Woah– ! " quickly scrambling to regain her footing, with Gonbe protesting via a loud meow in her ear, she decided it'd just be easier to sit down on the metal in order to talk to the other guy. And so she plopped down with a small hup!, cheerfully kicking her feet dangling off the edge as she leaned over to wave at rope-guy, " Heh ! Nope ! Sorry, big bro, but you should come up here too ! The view is super cool ! ”
HELL IF I'LL LET YOU TOSS YOUR LIFE AWAY ALONE. — @mtwiind
✘ — Wolves had never been built to be solitary creatures.
It was a sentiment Jabra had carried with him long before he'd ever gotten the opportunity to sink his fangs into the devil's garden. Maybe in that way, it had been fate when he found himself curled up on the floor, taking in the way each of his senses sharpened to the world around.
The life of wolf and its instincts suited him just fine, he considered it one of his greatest strengths. A side of him he'd accepted, thrived with, grinning as he embraced every part of it.
…He'd been expecting some kind of lashback — ( a lie. At the time, he hadn't allowed himself to think of it at all. Every instinct engaged in civil war in a way that could've threatened to paralyze him, had he been any weaker of a man ) — when he'd made his decision, but he hadn't anticipated just how much it'd ache.
Jabra lost track of how long he'd been restlessly pacing around the room in circles, resisting the urge to lower himself onto all fours and curl in himself and cower, or worse — run out and start searching for what he already knew wasn't there. Leaving behind the pack he'd been looking after for the better part of two decades and then some kept clawing at his damn mind, trapping in his throat a perpetual whine he'd sooner die than let slip.
Shaking his head, trying to free himself of damn instincts, he instead tried to focus ( for the hundredth time ) on the pile of bounty posters sprawled on the nearby table. A handful of them were already crossed out, long turned to corpses, but even he knew better than to stroll up to the navy to claim his reward. It was only a matter of time before their location was compromised, if it hadn't already, and they needed to get moving. He'd turn in his prey on their way out.
...What the hell was he even doing.
His nose twitched, ears perking as he recognized who was approaching long before the kid entered the room. In the brief time he had, he'd relaxed his shoulders, slapping on a grin and leaned over the table of bounties with exaggerated concentration.
As Kaku got closer, his shadow blocked out the hallway's light spilling in, and he turned around to look at the other man. Cheerful teasing ready on his tongue and —
And Jabra's mind blanked. The wolf salivated over his shoulder, hissing into his ear, telling him how it could be so easy.
It'd be so simple to go back to their pack. All he'd have to do was drag Kaku by the scruff, like the disobedient pup he was, and take them back home. Jabra could tell their bosses it was all his fault, his idea, laugh it off as he usually did, kill a few hundred ( thousands ) of whoever or whatever. And things could go back to ( but they'd been betrayed first. They'd been unwaveringly loyal and they'd still been betrayed first ) the status quo.
But the moment quickly passed, thoughts shoved and kicked to the side like the mangy mutt they were. Jabra blinked, animalistic shine gone from his eyes, and he smirked as if nothing had happened.
" Gyahaha ! Here I was starting to wonder where you scurried off to, " he snickered, stretching his arms as he carelessly tossed the random bounty he'd been holding back onto the table, ignoring the way it fluttered to the floor instead, " You were out longer than I expected. Heh, got sidetracked trying to get your teeth on some shiny apples or green leaves, stuck up high in a tree ? "
❛ it was wrong of me to assume you're ever gonna change. ❜
❛ that's it? it was all just a lie? ❜
❛ shame on me for thinking you were a good person. ❜
❛ you're gonna pay for what you did to me. ❜
❛ you didn't hear a word of what i just said, did you? ❜
❛ believe me, you weren't my first choice either. ❜
❛ if you've got a problem with the way i handle things, just say so. ❜
❛ do you think we're gonna survive this? ❜
❛ what's your problem?! ❜
❛ will you please slow down a little? ❜
❛ i can't believe you would do something like that. ❜
❛ did it mean anything to you? ❜
❛ i'm never gonna be good enough for you. ❜
❛ we were just fooling ourselves this whole time. ❜
❛ i'm sorry, i didn't know where else to go. ❜
❛ i don't want to argue with you anymore. ❜
❛ fine. you were right, and i was wrong. happy now? ❜
❛ this day feels like it's never gonna end. ❜
❛ i didn't think you'd care so much. ❜
❛ this must be like the first time you were nice to me. ❜
❛ out of all the people here, why do i have to be stuck with you? ❜
❛ do you want to go on a date with me? ❜
❛ honestly, i don't think i wanna leave the house today. ❜
❛ were you ever planning on telling me about all of this? ❜
❛ i wish i had another choice. ❜
❛ don't flatter yourself, a fifth-grader could've done this as well. ❜
❛ you're the most insufferable person i have ever met. ❜
❛ here, you look like you need this more than me right now. ❜
❛ oh, just so you know, i don't ever lose this game. ❜
❛ just let me sleep for five more minutes. ❜
❛ alright, is there anything else we have to do before they arrive? ❜
❛ do you believe in ghosts? ❜
❛ i wish we had more time together. ❜
❛ you don't have to leave just yet ... you could stay the night if you wanted to. ❜
❛ where are you taking me? ❜
❛ trust me, this is the last thing i want to do. ❜
❛ i need more time to think about what i want. ❜
❛ why didn't you say anything earlier? we could've avoided this whole mess. ❜
❛ i don't feel so good, i think i may be getting sick. ❜
❛ help me! please! ❜
Will put it in bio whenever I get around to making muse abouts-- but Yeah decided that this Jabra Will be going with take that he Did have a younger sister he felt responsible for before he was taken to be trained and groomed for Cipher Pol
✘ — Sorry, sorry, right. He'd forgotten who he was talking about. He'd just assumed things about Kaku's standards, that's his bad. Some blond idiot with a gambling addiction would've been better, huh ?
"You still seek redemption for your past? Don't you know there is no forgiveness for you?"
he knew that it wouldn't be easy for him, it could take him years if not even decades before everyone started to see him in a better light, he knew that his hands would never be cleaned from the red that stained them everytime he looked at them. but if the one person who he wronged the most could still look past everything he had done, if he could be getting married to the man he held dear--
"you're wrong, i can be forgiven, i have been forgiven.." if the ring on his finger meant anything it was that he could change for the better.
✘ — " Oi, your arm candy isn't the only bastard out for your blood, idiot, " his tone sharp and serious in the way he rarely ever acted, but had more often been towards Kaku than for others.
He could still remember the kid from back when he'd been just one of the many soft hearted brats picked up by their damn program. Another one of the squishy idiots Jabra had found himself lingering around, snarling from over Kaku's shoulder at any of the other brats who wanted to try something. Jabra hadn't expected for the kid to have survived for very long even then, much less be able to survive for this long.
…He'd been finding himself thinking back on those days lately. Far more often than he should've. Far more often than he would ever admit.
" What if— "
The words cut themselves off, his face disgruntled, as if he'd just eaten something sour. He'd almost said something so damn stupid, and he was an expert at spilling bullshit. What if Jabra couldn't forgive him ?
Meant fucking nothing, he knew damn well, and his eyes flickered towards the damn ring on Kaku's hands. Without shadow of a doubt, the guy had lost his stupid mind ! He couldn't believe it !
…Couldn't believe it'd even been possible for people like them. Couldn't believe that he hadn't been there to see it.
" Haah… " Jabra was pissed. It was so blatantly obvious that he was pissed off, but he forced himself to stretch his arms. Reaching for his gourd rather than lunging for attack, he took a long swing of the sake within it and then tossed the drink to the other man, " You're damn lucky it's me that found you and not Lucci, Kaku, you know that ? You really think our bosses are at all happy about your little stunts ? Blinded by fantasy or not, you know as well as I do the rules of this world. "
It's like I know in canon hachi has that whole thing with Octopako but like. when he actually moved on from it frame one and cared more about a stranger in need. What if in my heart he's aspec.
✘ — Can I just say. This turned into an Incredibly long character introspecton for Hachi that essentially spans from when Arlong's crew first landed in Cocoyasi Village to Sabaody.
The difference between Hatchan at the start of Arlong's raid and to the present day, just. What if it gets to me. What if he was content with going along with his captain, willing to put his blind faith in Arlong and believing in him and- and he still does, he'll always believe in Arlong.
But what if he couldn't forget. What if he couldn't forget another little girl that he'd grown to love so dearly in the time they had. What if he couldn't help but hear his deceased brother's words in his head each time that he looked at this little brat they'd orphaned and kidnapped?
What if he tried to be strong for Arlong but he can't forget. So what if he began carrying himself with more cartoonish candor than swagger. What if arms he'd been using for threatning and posturing began to loosen, waving in the wind without care in the world.
What if he began to trip more often. What if his movements grew exaggarated with each passing day. What if he'd slip and spend far longer than they all knew he needed to right himself, on the off chance of providing this child they were torturing a moment of respite?
What if he knew his cowardice and this was all he felt he could do.
He worked as hard as always. For Arlong? There was never a question. But as years went by, his reputation as a joke continued to solidify, until even Hatchan could believe that he'd always been that way.
That the respected swordsman who'd once sailed and fought alongside Fisher Tiger, the feared fish-man who was Arlong's very own officer... had always been a baffoon. Clumsy with his words and clumsy with his hands in every moment outside of battle. Saying inane things that came to mind, every moment cartoonish, flopping around without a care in the world.
It was a change in him he'd never stop to think about, if he were honest. It was his best way to live. If he didn't think about things, then he didn't have to think about things. And he'd been okay with that, because there was Arlong to think for him. There was their crew. And all Hachi had to do was follow them as he always had, as he always thought he would. And if they did the thinking for him, then he didn't have to think about how small Nami was and how much pain they were putting her through and how Fisher Tiger could have cried at the sight of them all.
...And then Arlong was gone, and their crew was gone. And it was just Hatchan. And it hadn't been just Hatchan in.... ever.
But he'd grown accustomed to not thinking too hard about things and so he let himself follow his own whims and- and- and he just did what he felt like doing. It'd been so long since he'd just strolled through the sea. He'd almost forgotten how beautiful it could be.
He did what he wanted. He helped that shark and he'd helped that human without a second of hesitation because he'd wanted to.
And it was nice. He couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so light. He felt... happy. A joy that didn't have the sickly aftertaste he'd grown accustomed to ignoring.
And now suddenly he had his dream that he'd long written off as fantasy. And now suddenly, he had two friends who looked up to him and cheered for him and made him feel welcomed but-
But they were both so young. Camie was young and a mermaid living in a very cruel world, and Pappagu wasn't much better.
The longer they stuck around with him, the more times Hatchan had to run off to rescue them...
...The more he realized he couldn't keep forgetting. He couldn't keep ignoring whatever he wanted. He couldn't keep living the role of the fool and get away with it.
Arlong wasn't there to help him. Nor was Fisher Tiger, or even Jimbei. It was just Hatchan who - before he could've even realized - had become attatched to and responsible for these two companions.
Hatchan was in a position where he not only had to think for himself, but think about others who were depending on him now.
It was a cold awakening, one he knew he could've never prepared himself for, even if he'd been given warning.
Who even was he? Without Arlong, without his friends, who even was he? He'd always been in some role of violence, whether in the backstreets or as a pirate, and he'd loved helping his brothers in arms, but he... but he was finding that he just enjoyed helping. Fishman, mermaid, human, animal. He just... liked helping. He liked not being a pirate.
The process of learning was an arduous one, filled with trial and error that nearly had him on the verge of heart attack more times than he could count. But... he was learning with open eyes and willing heart. And to him, that mattered.
I'm sorry but he is literally so big bro shaped like, makes fun of you makes fun of you but then 'yeah i get it, i get it' don't wanna embarrass him Too much and
continues to think ab how he gave his jacket to kalifa bc nami tore her clothes and how he carried kaku on his back the entire way and how he still did his best to raise money for lucci's hospital bills despite clearly not liking the guy very much and the fact he's the oldest of them (spandam isnt real dw ab it)--
and also unrelated but i still hold this look at them,,,, laughing and vibing,,,, jabra with a wholeass parfait,,,
