I think it’s beautiful that the more you ask of Allah the closer you get to Him. you ask people for something more than once and they start distancing themselves from you. understandably so, humans aren’t each other’s providers like that.. it’s burdening on us. But Allah provides, sometimes through people but ultimately Allah provides. and we can ask Him endlessly. with humans you’ll say ‘i haven’t asked for something in a while but I need this’ but with Allah it’s like ‘I’m always asking You, and you’re always there’
concept: living in an apartment in a foreign city. the smell of the bakery down the street comes in through the open window and sunlight warms your back while you lay in bed with a cup of tea on the nightstand and your pet sleeping at your feet. in the next room is all the books you could ever read, but a few of your favorites are still scattered around your bedroom because you’re in the middle of reading them all again. music plays faintly. you are relaxed, happy, and the only thing you have to worry about is what you want to make for breakfast.
Do you ever notice yourself getting bad again…like, you know you’re not doing work that needs to be done, you know you’re not cleaning, you know you’re not taking care of yourself…you know all the things you need to do to start trying to feel better. But you just can’t. And you’re left feeling like shit bc you thought you were getting better but here we are
Sometimes self care is studying for that test. Sometimes it’s cleaning your room. Sometimes it’s having that conversation you’re afraid of having, confront that person you’re afraid to confront. Sometimes it’s not just wrapping yourself up in a blanket and relaxing. Sometimes instead, it’s taking action against the problem.
Unpopular opinion, but yeah.
That’s the thing about good hearts, they make up excuses in their head on other people’s behalf.

The beauty of Islam is that nothing is wasted, nothing is meaningless. Giving some water to a thirsty homeless animal can wipe out all your past sins. Birds and animals eating from plants you grow in your garden is a charity. A compassionate touch on an orphan’s head is appreciated by God. A smile and a good word are praised. Putting a morsel in your wife’s mouth is a righteous deed. Cherishing your own family is a charity. Honouring you parents is highly estimated and rewarded.
Even your pains, physical and emotional, great and small, nothing of them is wasted or meaningless, all are counted and compensated. This is the nature of having a trade with God, The Most Generous.
2015-2016 was a timeskip. 2017 starts where 2014 left off but with a much darker, more mature tone. Lots of character development.

some islamic, some psychological, and some general academic tips to acing your classes:
begin the day with fajr and read surah yaseen every morning so your day goes smoothly.
for important quizzes, presentations, assignments, exams, etc, keep reciting this duaa: Rabbi yassir, wala tu’assir, watammim bil-khayr. o Allah, make this easy for me, and do not make it difficult, and allow me to complete it well.
sit towards the front of the class so you can hear the teacher clearly, be less distracted by your surroundings, and ask questions easily.
adopt an alert posture. when you’re slouching, your brain assumes you’re uninterested so your information processing is slow. just adopting the right posture goes a long way in helping you concentrate.
drink lots of water. LOTS of it. during class, in between class, during exams, after exams, you get the idea. you need to stay hydrated to stay focused and mentally alert.
keep your phone out of your visual field. contrary to popular belief, human beings are not equipped to be able to focus 100% on more than one thing a time. so decide which is more important - your grades or your social media notifications that’ll still be there by the end of the lecture?
download and use the myhomework app. it has saved my life grades more than once.
combine all of your reading material and create brief notes, mindmaps, and flowcharts for every topic at least a week before your finals, and just memorize those. you’ll retain information better, you’ll stay calm because suddenly 50 pages of readings got reduced to one page of notes, and you’ll be able to attempt your question paper better.
get 8 hours of sleep every night. yes, every night. you’re human and 8 hours of sleep will ensure that you function at your emotional and mental best throughout the day. the ideal thing to do after revising is to sleep because that allows you to retain what you’ve learned. the more sleep-deprived you are during exams season, the more likely you are to forget everything you learned in the panic of the moment. (fun psych fact: the most rapid forgetting happens during the first 9 hours after learning something, and the most effective way to retain maximum information is to SLEEP.)
avoid (or at least decrease) caffeine. i know, another impossibility. but really, getting a full night’s rest and avoiding caffeine go hand in hand. when you’re well-rested, you can focus better, and you can stay on top of things without having to drink 20 cups of coffee.
hard work and discipline > intelligence. hard work is everything. discipline is everything. intelligence means nothing if you can’t couple it with the hard work and discipline needed to keep your priorities straight and keep going despite any setback in your path because you know what you’re striving for is worth it.
and the one thing that works miracles - doesn’t matter how poor or great your revision is for your exam, do wudu, pray two nafl, and make duaa before your exam. i was on a one-month leave this past semester and still got a 4.0 gpa, alhumdulillah, and i place the credit for that solely on this practice. i’m mentioning this not to boast but to motivate y’all to trust me on this one: it really works.
and lastly, do remember that you’re human and superhuman perfection isn’t required of you. a bad grade isn’t the end of the world. nothing is worth destroying your mental, emotional, or physical health over. take care of yourself, stay healthy, try your best, and leave the rest to Allah. remember, dearest: a letter on a paper can’t even begin to encompass how special, unique, and wonderful you are as a person.
Needed this so much 💓
She is really feeling it!! 😍
I play this at work all the time and show my coworkers this lil baby
“I covered a lot of Trump rallies as a journalist. I didn’t feel any hatred. People were more curious than anything. I was never assaulted. I felt like most people were just supporting him because he wasn’t part of the establishment. Or because they were tired of politics. But it was confusing. Because even though I didn’t feel like they hated me, these people were supporting someone who said I should be banned from the country. Even the father of one of my best friends supports Trump. This man had me over to his house. I went to Thanksgiving with him. My friend asked him: ‘Dad, how can you support that man? Our friend Zahra is a Muslim.’ He told her: ‘Don’t worry. He won’t do everything that he says.’ Today has been difficult. These last few weeks, it was mostly speculation. There was suspicion that most Americans supported him but I could hope that it was wrong. But now that hope is gone. And I have to feel differently. I have to feel like maybe most Americans don’t want me here. And I feel like no matter how hard I try, I’ll never be part of the community. And even if they’re friendly to me, or if they invite me to Thanksgiving, deep down they believe that America is a country that belongs to white people.”
In Somali when we see injustice we say ‘dhiiga kuma dhaqaqo?’ which translates into ‘does your blood not move?’

if only trump had insulted dogs. then white people never would have gotten him to the white house
