Despite Caine’s constant need for validation, any lukewarm sentiment or lack of critique from Ragatha never seemed to earn any attention. After all, it’s never really for him, but for the people around her. Something to cheer them up, to look on the bright side. Ragatha never cared for having Caine’s attention. In fact, it seemed better if he had no opinion on a player, and it looked that way for a long time. 

It’s only when she did critique him finally that he paid attention. Because, really, once he thought he secured her as a happy guest, he stopped caring. She was a finished task. But, she was so unhappy with him when the players yelled everything he had done to hurt them. It confuses him more than anything. After everything, he’s desperate for her validation again.

Ragatha is surprised by how easily they get along, and it sucks that it took so long to figure that out. Ragatha hates how easily she had empathized with Caine, knowing how little he had empathized with her in the past.

How unfortunate for her to start to fall for the one person who could understand her pain, but didn’t care until it was too late. How stupid of him to fall in love with her after everything he’s done.

They think neither of them deserve the other. But, they cannot help being drawn to one another after keeping themselves so far apart.

I absolutely adore Caine and Ragatha friendship and love headcanon that they both platonically touch-starved....
