BIBI: VENGEANCE (2022)
this feels like a Take™ that's more suited for tumblr than twt plus it's not like i have anything else to say here lol so. watching all these booktube woke reviews of the edgy 2000s YA novels (that i personally loved when i was like 13-17) and seeing ppl get overly excited to list every problematic thing there like "omg she's 17 there and she's with that older guy WTF she's literally a child" "that's a racist trope if you think about it" "remember that this is meant for young teens in middle school? well imagine that THIS fucked up thing happens there" etc etc and i'm like...... idk there's something so very white upper middle class about these takes, especially when it comes to "imagine reading and internalizing horrible thing A and abhorrent thing B as a child" fuck susan imagine living in such a shielded environment and being so removed from real life issues that as a 13-year-old the most upsetting or potentially harmful thing you can encounter is a kinda fucked up trope in a fantasy book. wow. how many children, overall in the US and even more so in the rest of the world, have the privilege of not ever having to face (or be a day-to-day witness of) real-life violence, abuse, unhealthy power dynamics, extremely racist takes, and everything else? who is the sweet and innocent child you are protecting from this mfing 2006 book like it's the last straw that will ruin their life? ffs
johnten is simultaneously the very top and the very bottom of ncity iceberg
