-”Relief, huh? We don’t usually get that from toons ‘round here. What we get is taken for granted. ‘course, that’s just apart of th’ job. Not like Peps minds too much. Me though? I hate it. But, like I said, that’s just apart of it.” Giving yet another shrug, along with a small kick to the ground, a brow was raised in subtle interest for the squirrel’s question. Area? She meant profession, right?
-”What area? Oh, pretty simple. We’re both field medics. But, other than that, we also specialize in a few other.. things. Cut ‘n stitch is one of the two. It goes; one is field medics, next is cut ‘n stitch and third is a mostly secret profession. Not open for spilling the beans though, ‘cause, no offense, I don’t know you all that much.”
Looks like her little diversion worked, for the time being.
-”’n Alca, huh? Nice name, toots. As for th’ hat, it’s just a uniform to make things a bit more obvious for people ‘round here. If I just wore the shirt ‘n coat, I’d get mistaken for a damn pharmacist. ‘n as it turns out, some toons really like cough drops. It’s just some weird addiction that more than a few people have. Mostly over on the second isle.”
-”’n from what I’ve dealt with as well, some toons even got poisoned from just scarfing them down in one go. Bunch of twits if you ask me.”
And, with well-placed timing, a distant store bell could be heard jingling before the figure of a bluebird could be seen.. slamming a door shut right behind him, overlapping the friendly chiming of the previously mentioned bell.
“A part of the job, is it? How unfortunate, really.” It did surprise the squirrel some that the Inkwell citizens didn’t seem to appreciate the bluebirds’ services. How odd. Other than policemen and those working for the law, doctors and those in the medical field were some of the most respected back home, especially those that were on her payroll…
Alca listened to Salt’s explanation on what he and his brother did in their field. Of course, she wasn’t expecting him to spill much information since they’ve only just met moments ago. Plus, as he stated, it was all simple to explain anyway.
“Field medics…” she mumbled to herself before being briefly in thought. “Oh, I see. So you and your brother have provided medical help for the military then. Pardon me for being incorrect, but I have a cousin back in my hometown who participated in war as a medic and that’s what he was labeled as. A field medic.” A pause as the squirrel glanced off towards the ocean for a moment. “And no offense taken. I understand. I know sometimes those things can be confidential.”
She didn’t grimace at being called “toots”. Eh, after having to endure unwanted pet names for years, she has learned to ignore and not acknowledged such things unless it got out of hand. “Oh, yes. I completely know what you mean by the strange addiction. It has been happening back in my home since the ban of drugs came into play. If people couldn’t get the strongest medication to satisfy their obsession, cough drops and cough syrup were their one way ticket.” She shook her head as a faint smirk appeared. “Oh, the irony…”
The thoughts of the pathetic legal system were interrupted by the chiming of a store bell somewhere far off. Alca immediately turned her head towards the sound to see a bluebird identical to Salt, seeming to leave the store in a huff.
“I would assume that is your brother over there, hm?”
