S6 theories/predictions (spoilers for the whole show)
I thought I'd post my theories for S6 here because (I want bragging rights if they're correct) I love theory crafting and I want to see what other people think will happen next!
Arthur killed his parents. I know this may sound needlessly dark, but hear me out: Arthur's parents were cultists of Lilith, and Lilith calls Arthur 'her favourite'. From what we've seen so far, Lilith sometimes has trouble interacting directly with the physical world, instead manipulating people into enacting her will through dreams. For example, in S4 with Arthur opening the door in Marie's house and in 52 with the Blackstone. Personally, I think it would make sense if Lilith struggled to kill Arthur's parents directly, instead entering his dreams and forcing him to kill them himself (while sleepwalking). The fact that Arthur's parents were cultists is major and is definitely likely to be further explored during S6, regardless of this theory being true or not. Also, the Dark World is said to bring out the worst in people, so it would be interesting to see Arthur struggle with this revelation while dealing with the negative effects of the Dark World.
This brings me onto my second theory, which is that the person the Manager addresses at the end of De Capo is Lilith. I don't know if this counts as a theory or not, as it was my first thought while listening, but I've seen people say other things so I'll add this anyway. The Manager tells the person that he's addressing that they are tied to Arthur in a way that shouldn't be possible (paraphrasing), which links to Lilith's nail that Arthur absorbed during 52. I don't have much of a theory beyond this, except that Lilith is probably also going to the Dark World, and will help the final fight against Kayne in some way.
Other random ideas: At some point the characters will lose the lighter and have to find their own path forward, we'll see more of what John has been doing in the Dark World, Arthur will see something again (like with the stars in 52), Noel will be lost to the Dark World and the boys will have to try and save him with hope, and at some point during the finale John and Arthur will try to talk to Azathoth.
This last one is definitely out there (esp since I haven't read much Lovecraft so I'm not sure if this is a thing), but I feel that it'll be difficult for them to win in a direct confrontation with Kaybe, even with Lilith and any other souls they've managed to get aid from in the Dark World helping. I'm not sure how this scenario would go exactly, but maybe they could warn him about Kayne?
'Letting go'. In the post S5 interviews Guthrie mentions that this will be a big theme of S6, and we can see that with the Manager's advice to Arthur and John, which is literally that they have to 'let go'. This is very vague. My theories about what this alludes to is firstly letting go of the past. Both protagonists are plagued by their past mistakes and have to 'let them go' to move forward, as we've seen in previous seasons. In S6 they'll probably have to confront their pasts again, especially with the Dark World bringing their demons to the surface.
Despite this, I think 'letting go' has another meaning, as we've seen both characters overcome this before.Honestly, I don't think there's a way out of the Dark World for either of them. They have no physical body to go back to, and the Dark World is described as literal hell. While they may succeed in stopping Kayne destroying reality, after that, how could they go on? I'd like there to be a happy ending, but I think a bittersweet one is more realistic. I think 'letting go' may mean that Arthur and John must pass their hope onto the next generation and permanently die, with hope that whoever else comes along to carry the fire will be able to do so. Their part in the story is done, and they have to 'let go' so the torch can be passed on. This is super depressing and I hope that I'm wrong, but I can't think of any other ending for them outside of death. Also, Guthrie also alluded to a continuation of some kind, so this would tie in to that in a way.
