STORYLINE: Greetings dear readers and creatures of the night, this nocturnal journalist is happy to announce, after a year long hiatus, Midnight Magazine is back! We're excited to give a sneak peek at February's centerfold, the mysterious Dracotaur Sylus from the popular Deepspace video game. Yes, yes, he was difficult to coax into modeling for us, but with proper care, attention, and a lot of money were able to eventually win him over.

STORYLINE: In the treetops of Madagascar, nestled amongst the vibrant leaves and swaying branches, lies the colorful village of the Owl Tribe. Their shaman, known as Ombiasy Rakoto, had long white dreadlocked hair and white tribal markings on his purple skin. From his staff swung a shrunken skull, a symbol of his power and connection to the spirits. Perched on his shoulder was the watchful white owl Kijabe who acted as his eyes and ears. Together, they kept a vigilant watch over the village, protecting their people from the evil Unweaver. But one day, a darkness fell upon the village, and the Unweaver's shadow crept closer. With his people in danger, the shaman knew he had to act fast. Summoning all of his strength and magic, Rakoto and Kijabe set out to battle the Unweaver.

STORYLINE: Kaiju, a young Sea Dragon, had been enjoying gem-combing on the ocean floor with his pet Sharkpoo when he heard the laughter of 3 women. He had never seen a mermaid before, and now there were three! He forgot all about collecting gems. The girls were so cute and excitedly talking about a great gathering of mythical creatures. He stalked them, always keeping himself well hidden. But once they were in open ocean, he couldn't hide anymore. They screamed. He screamed. And after many awkward apologies and reassurances he didn’t intend to eat them, he was invited to swim along on the journey to the Fantasy Faire! He was so excited. He looked up at the rippling surface of the water, and wondered what amazing sights he would see. STORYLINE: Snow was piled high in the abandoned streets of New London. There were no footprints in newly fallen snow. The hairs stood up on the back of J's neck. "It's quiet. Too quiet. No obvious signs of violence...." He turned to his mechanical helper, "Guryong, ...can you detect any environmental hazards?" Steam poured from the nostrils of the mechanical dragon as it surveyed their surroundings, and a metallic voice replied, "Master Jang, I detect none. However there is a woman close by." Suddenly, they heard a woman scream, "EEEEK!"

STORYLINE: J had a baffling nature. Both beautiful and deadly. Was he an angel or a devil? One never knew which version of J flew in the sky that day. "You must be desperate to call me," J sneered. "So who do I end?" ...."No," K replied in a grave tone, "You misunderstand my intentions. People are disappearing from New London. It was just a few at first, nothing to worry about. But the missing are now increasing at an alarming rate. None of the other crewheads came back. Go investigate, and stop it immediately. Use any means necessary." STORYLINE: It was hard to believe. 12 hours ago he was partying with his buds at the pub after a hard day climbing the tallest mountain in the French Alps. He was the leader of the group, the one who rescued those who faltered. He was a fearless hero to them. But look at him now… panting for breath, clinging to his Spiderbot 450 because he too weak to even stand.

Some people had dogs, he had his trusty Spiderbot, -- there was nothing it couldn't climb! They had been on many adventures together. In fact, Spiderbot was his best friend. And it knew he was dying. It knew what he wanted to do, one last time....

Higher and higher the bot raced, leaped, and climbed. The air was getting thin. It was hard to keep his eyes open now. His breath became ragged. His thoughts a jumble.

There was a monster lurking in pub parking lot. It wanted him. He fought it off, but not without first taking serious damage. He never really thought Nosferatu were real, just Dark Ages folklore, superstition, and fiction. He wanted to believe he infected by was some kind genetically engineered virus or something, but he couldn't deny the changes he felt. The sunlight was beginning to burn. He pulled the hoodie lower over his face.

He wasn't sure how long he had been passed out when Spiderbot suddenly squeaked. He slowly opened his eyes and smiled weakly. "Good Spider," he whispered. Then he used what strength he had left and stood up. The cold wind whistled in his ear. It was so peaceful up here at the top of the world. So beautiful above the clouds.

"I could throw myself over the edge," he thought. "The Mighty Claude Frederic, Mountaineer Extraordinaire, is a slave to no one." He looked down past the cliff's edge into the darkness peeking below the clouds. Perhaps he could stay here with Spider and let the sun purify him.

"You wouldn't try to save me if I start to burn, would you, Spider?" he laughed bitterly. Of course Spider could easily hop to the shaded side of the mountain. Would the AI refuse to let him die even if he wished for it? How many times had they cheated death together against all odds on a mountain just like this?

Damn that fiend, it chose its victim well. What was he going to do? Was this really his last day?

But beware, dear friends, for it's true, That Nosferatu will have them too, They'll fly with drones and wield AI, Their power and influence, we can't deny.

With cyborg enhancements, they'll be swift, Their fangs and claws, a deadly gift, A force to be reckoned with indeed, As they hunt their prey and make us bleed.

So take heed, my friends, and be aware, The future holds a new nightmare, Not just humans, but Nosferatu too, Using technology to do what they do.

STORYLINE: Once upon a time, two teenage twins, a boy and a girl, escaped their difficult life by reading books. One day their luck changed when they discovered a handmade book about the Fairykind hidden under a pile leaves deep in the forest. It was full of beautiful art and amazing tales. The twins fortunes grew as the book became famous. Many people paid to see the mysterious book. Then one day, a real fairy came and demanded the book be returned immediately. At first the twins refused, then the girl, who knew the rules that bound the Faeries, had an idea. She offered to exchange the book in return for three wishes. She wished to live in the world's largest library, full of knowledge and great works of fiction, a library so vast it would be impossible to read in one lifetime. As their wish became true, they found themselves transported to a dark place that was completely silent. When the boy stumbled, they discovered they were standing on a stack of books. It was the library they wished for, but it was in total darkness. Angrily, the twins were forced to use their second wish giving them the ability to create light. They were determined to save the third wish. The twins attempted to escape by creating a massive stack of books to climb out of the endless library. But it was impossible. Their situation became desperate.  They were so hungry and thirsty they had to use their third wish. The girl angrily wished to never need food or drink again. Unfortunately for them, these three wishes combined and transformed them into fairies of light, and were cursed to dwell in the library for all time. STORYLINE: The Caretaker had been asleep at the spaceship controls, his hand still resting on a full belly. He had a satisfied smirk still on his face from eating the forbidden fruit from a quarantined planet.  Other than the small blue planet being infested with life, he saw no harm in stopping for a quick tasty organic meal. But as his eyes snapped open and stared in shock at the angrily blinking monitors of the colony ship, he knew he had made a grave mistake. The ship was making an eerie mechanical bleep in a repeating rhythm that seemed to be counting the passing of time. His monitor was glitching and forming a pattern. He couldn’t read the alien language that spelled out, “Welcome to Earth Asshole,” but he did recognize the skull pattern of the monkey creature he ate. It was laughing. Was it mocking him? More alarms began to blare. Lights flickered. He looked around in disbelief. No way did that primitive culture have a Planetary Defense. There was no armada. What was happening? A red alarm began to flash. Hull breach in Pod Bay 94. He grabbed a weapon and raced there. The doors were jammed. He forced it open, and was immediately struck with swirling wind and sparks. On top of a pod was some kind of alien technology bot destroying his precious cargo! And it was rapidly multiplying, building more copies of itself from parts of the ship! What was it? Malevolent Artificial Intelligence? Horrifying! He leapt inside to maelstrom to quickly do what must be done. If he survived, he would never again question the quarantine bans.

STORYLINE: Miss Anna was stuck in a nightmare. The dream began as she was piloting her small airship above New Deco. She was about to dock at the SkyCrypt, when there was a horrible explosion. Flames, and fire. Then pain, screams, and the roaring wind in her ears. She was falling, falling, falling forever but never hitting the ground. She didn't know how long she was stuck in the dream. Suddenly, gravity hit her like a wall of bricks. Her eyes snapped open to strange sounds like whirls and clicks. “Thank the Gods of Invention and Blood!” That voice.... yes, she knew that voice, it was her master, the vampire Monsieur Bleu. “There was a horrible accident, my love." He lifted her stiff heavy hand. "This was all I could do to save you," he whispered as he kissed it. Strange, she felt nothing. She wanted to scream, but had no voice. She began to thrash wildly. "I will find who did this," his outrage barely contained. Knowing what she wanted to see, he held her hand firmly, as if to say "be calm," and slowly guided her off the platform towards the scene of the blast. Light leaked from the crumbling wall and gleamed on her beautiful metallic doll face. “It is a new day. STORYLINE: The General of New Deco was haunted. No amount of awards, medals, or ribbons could chase away his waking nightmare. The war was still raging with no end in sight. Everywhere he looked, ghosts of soldiers with no voices and eyes stared back at him. Why were they haunting him? He had reached the limit of what the body and mind could endure. He just couldn't, ... kill anymore. Of course his superiors were disappointed, after all he was a brilliant tactician and beloved by his men too, so they offered him an early exit if he would just sign a simple contract. Unfortunately for him, having too much time to think did result in one more death, -- his. So it came as a shock when he awoke inside a monstrous thing of metal and gears. His will was no longer his, since he had inadvertently signed it away. He was programed to obey. There was no such thing as mercy for a War Machine. The tears of rust on his automaton face were the only clues to the screaming, blind ghost locked inside.

STORYLINE:  As part of our Camelot Exposed series, we here at Midnight Magazine want to shift focus to a well hidden power behind the scenes. No one really thinks much about Merlin. He’s the advisor to the King, and mentor of the White Knight. He’s always busy with the dull tasks of keeping the Kingdom running. And he’s just so cheerful, its annoying! Well, that should have been our first clue he is not as he appears. Our investigative journalists did an incredible job unmasking Merlin as none other than the Golden Knight from the Age of Ruins. Merlin is the true architect of Camelot of the Night in concept as well as stone. Midnight Magazine would love to know more of Goldie’s juicy secrets! Remember how, with her engagement to the King, the Queen of the Succubi promised to be a shiny example of Camelot's high minded ideals? Oh but dear readers, you know where this is heading or this column wouldn’t be called the Daily Scandal! Our intrepid photog captured on camera the Queen's secret rendezvous with someone who is definitely not a friend to succubi! In fact, he is the last person you would expect to become entangled with one. Yes, you heard me right. The White Knight, an unstoppable enforcer of justice and punisher of the wicked, was caught at the castle in the throws of passion drinking the Queen's blood right under the King's nose! It's a Shocker! Could the rumors be true its not the King’s awesome power that keeps the White Knight in line? STORYLINE: No sooner I had spoke into my recorder, “Reporter for Midnight Magazine here,” then I sensed a displeasurable aura coming my way. The Predator of Predators flopped down in a chair in front of me in a whirlwind of thunder and thinly veiled contempt. I cheerfully offered my hand, “It’s an honor to meet the Legend of the Hunter Society.”

He refused my hand, and scoffed at my recording equipment. “Is that really necessary? I have nothing to say to your blood soaked readers. I’m not here by choice.”

“Yes, I’ve heard the King has some kind of sway over you,” I thrust my recorder in his face. “Care to explain what it is?” He smacked my hand away with such violence, my poor little device was buried deep in the wall. “My my… aren’t you the scary one.”

He stood up as if to say, this interview is over, but he paused by the door and asked, “I have no idea why you vampires… are interested in me.”

I leaned back and smugly regarded him. Got ya. “As strange as it sounds, you do have a fan club. Let’s just say, for the undead its a fantasy to be killed, and then by someone as beautiful and powerful as yourself... Well, you’re quite the dreamboat."

His lips curled up in disgust, revealing his own sharp fangs. “Vampires…,” he hissed unironically. “I do the world a favor annihilating you perverse vermin.”

Behind me, Lillian, from the makeup department, swooned at his dangerous growl and fainted right on the spot. Despite his menacing words, the Underworld’s Lancelot was very much the knight in shiny armor. He moved so quickly, he caught her before she hit the ground.

I quickly snapped a tantalizing shot of this accidental embrace.  It was perfect for the editorial section! Oh yes, this next issue is going to sell out fast. Of course, Midnight Magazine wanted the world's only Elder Slayer for our July cover model. Lucky for us, the King ordered him to appear as a bit of positive public relations for his newly formed Camelot of the Night. Surely it was some kind of punishment for the White Knight’s misdeeds.

I smiled brightly at him, “Midnight Magazine has a wonderful photoshoot setup just for you. A romanic scene of thorns and roses. I’m sure you will hate every minute of it!”
