Between swim team practice, dance team rehearsals, college applications, and senior year class projects, Marissa had a lot on her plate and rarely had a moment of free time. So much so that she hadn’t seen Spencer since Dare Night. That needed to be remedied immediately. She texted the younger girl and organized a sleepover for them to catch up and watch even more movie musicals while gorging themselves on junk food. She had missed Spencer’s company and needed a good girl’s night. She was putting the finishing touches to their movie lineup and snacks when she heard a knock on her bedroom door. “Come in! Unless you’re under the age of fifteen. No little kids tonight!”

The past few weeks had been particularly rough in Spencer’s world, so much so that she’d opted to skip out on school for almost the entire time. She needed space. She needed to cool off. And that’s exactly what she did. But now she was back; and she’d received a more than welcomed text from Marissa to schedule a sleepover. Of course she couldn’t refuse. So once things were planned, the brunette made her way to the older girl’s house; and having been let in by one of the girl’s many siblings, she made her way to the other’s room and knocked. “Good thing I turned sixteen back in March then!” She called back in response to Marissa’s words before turning the knob and pushing open the door.

Spencer’s eyes narrowed slightly as she glanced in Carson’s direction. His tone wasn’t exactly appreciated; but at least she knew he’d be willing to listen to her rant for days. And right now, she needed to rant for days. “Is that what we’re calling my rants now? Monologuing? ‘Cause I like the sound of that.”

Sloane’s head was spinning. She had long ago lost count of how much tequila she’d downed, and didn’t even know how she ended up in her current location. “Fuck, fuck, fuck.” She chanted. She had no way home, no phone, and only five bucks in her pocket. Luckily, she at least had a cigarette and a lighter. Lighting it up, she took a long inhale and blew out smoke, not noticing the person standing nearby.

“You okay there, dude?” The answer to the question regarding the state of the other was obvious; but Spencer still opted to ask it anyway. Walking over to the girl, she leaned up against a nearby wall and just observed her. She was clearly a mess and clearly in need of some help.

“That sounds…. deliciously terrible,” Marissa replied, rolling over onto her stomach. She had never watched the show, but now she was curious about it given the synopsis that Spencer provided. “We should watch it. But not now. Because I’m about to straight up pass out any moment soon.”

“Here. You just try and get some rest... And let me know if you need anything, okay?” It was definitely clear that Marissa was in much worse shape than Spencer after the party; so the younger girl figured she’d try her best to help out the other any way she could.

“What in the world is Glee?” she laughed, shifting so that she was next to Spencer at the foot of the bed. Marissa hadn’t spent a lot of time watching TV other than trashy reality shows, so she honestly had no clue what the younger girl was referencing to. “That would be truly sad and pathetic of me if I kept trying to relive my younger years.”

“It’s an old FOX show? I think it was on FOX.” Spencer had to stop for a minute, trying to remember if that was the station that used to broadcast Glee. “It basically followed these outcast kids in a high school show choir. Kinda cringy at times; but it was still a hit.” She explained, not going too into detail with the show.

“Well, I might still be around town next year. There’s a lot of things up in the air right now,” she admitted, remembering her conversation with Tristan earlier that evening. The conversation itself had been cathartic, but she was too exhausted to recount all the details. “So basically, we can still hang, but outside of high school events. Because I don’t want to be one of those weird creepy people who can’t move on.”

“You mean you don’t wanna be like one of those kids from Glee?” A bit buzzed, Spencer wouldn’t hide her love for that show. She’d be more inclined to openly bring it up in discussion. “Always coming back and intruding on high school events after you’re supposed to be gone?” There was an obvious joking tone to her voice that she hoped Marissa would be able to pick up in her current state.

Marissa stuck her tongue out at the other girl and curled up with her pillow. “I’m glad we hung out tonight. It wouldn’t have been the same if you hadn’t come out. I bet you’re gonna miss me when the next Dare Night rolls around,” she sighed, chuckling slightly. “I expect you to win Halloween Queen. Now that Hacker won’t be competition, you could totally own it.”

“Ugh, ew. It really won’t be fun next year without you. I mean, yeah. I’ll still have Carson to hang with; but it won’t be the same.” Hanging out with Marissa for the majority of Dare Night had been a lot of fun in Spencer’s opinion. The older girl had really helped her complete a good amount of the dare list. “But I promise you I’ll try to go for Halloween Queen.” She smiled. She wasn’t gonna mention that she wasn’t sure if she was gonna be in Northlake this time next year. There was part of her that wanted to move out of town all together, not just move out of her parents’ house.

“Excuse you. I know how to hold my liquor. It just so happens that an entire liter of vodka is not exactly meant to remain in the system for very long without bad things happening,” she quipped sharply. Marissa shook her head and laid back down, hugging one of her pillows. “I’m sorry. I can be a super bitch when I’m drunk. Plus that last round of skinny dipping was not so fun… Forgive me?”

“Y’know? You’re cute when you’re a super bitch.” In a way, Marissa’s quip reminded Spencer of an adorable puppy trying to act tough. And while she knew the older girl could definitely be a bitch at times, right now, it was just like a puppy to her. And it made her chuckle. “So yes. Of course I forgive you, silly.”

Marissa peaked an eye open and lifted her head slightly to look at the younger girl. “Let’s see… you missed the fireworks when I got home, so hopefully there’s no more vomitage for the rest of the night. We shall see,” she groaned as she laid back down. “But it was totally worth it. I will hate myself tomorrow but give it a few days and I’ll start to like myself again. How about you?”

“That tells me you need to learn how to hold your liquor better... Lesson one: don’t mix alcohols.” That was one rule Spencer abided by—for the most part. Like during the party, she only stuck with beers; and she’d ended up having enough to get a good buzz but not sloppy. Sloppy drunk Spencer was for the nights when she really needed to escape reality. “And it also tells me you’re gonna be dehydrated, which plays a part in your head pounding. So water is your friend.” She stayed, sending a warm smile at the other girl as she glanced in her direction. “And me? I feel pretty okay. I mean, I know I’ll end up feeling it more in a couple hours if I don’t do anything about it now. And regardless, I know I won’t be up for school.”

She had spent most of her time waiting laying down on the bed, scrolling through all the videos and pictures that they had gathered through the night. It was absolutely ridiculous yet so fun and entertaining at the same time. Marissa was exhausted but she was still happy to have the company and brightened up as soon as she heard the other girl’s voice. “Come in!” she said in an exuberant whisper. Her voice was hoarse from all the yelling from the night’s activities, but she didn’t care. “Feel free to dig in my drawers. There’s plenty of clothes available.”

Hearing the words ‘come in’, Spencer made her way into Marissa’s bedroom. Smiling as she saw the girl lying on her bed, she moved to take a seat at the edge. “Eh, I’m good for now.” She stated, referring to the offer for clothes. Her Meow sweater and jeans were actually super comfy. She’d been glad when they swapped back to their own costumes earlier in the night. “So tell me: how crappy do you feel?” The younger girl actually hadn’t had too much to drink during the Dare Night; so she knew she’d probably have a mild headache and that’d be all. But her exhaustion would make the headache itself worse. And that wouldn’t be pleasant.

There was no telling what time it was when Marissa stumbled back into her house. She was grateful for having a bedroom on the first floor of their house; otherwise, the climb up to the second floor would have proven to be very difficult. She left the door unlocked for Spencer before wandering into her room, setting her prized skeleton plushie toy on her bookshelf. Sure it wasn’t first place, but she was still very proud of herself. The cold shower had sobered her up enough to realize that she was going to be in a world of hurt the following morning. She discarded her clothing and changed into an oversized shirt, waiting for Spencer to come in.

It was really sweet of Marissa to offer to let her stay over the rest of the night so they could both be miserable with their post-party hangovers. And of course Spencer was gonna jump at the opportunity. Between it meaning she wouldn’t have to sneak home and risk being yelled at by her father and the fact the invite was from the hottest girl in school, there was no way the brunette was gonna refuse. So after she and some of her fellow drama geeks convinced the DJ to play ‘Time Warp’, she decided to leave the party, using the help of Siri’s GPS to help her find her way to Marissa’s house. Hesitantly, she pushed open the door when she arrived, having been told it’d be unlocked. Glancing around, she tried her best to be quiet as she made her way towards the older girl’s bedroom, not wanting to accidentally disrupt anyone else who might be home. Standing outside the doorway, she knocked gently on the frame before poking her head inside. “Hey you.”
