It’s a warm sunny summer afternoon and it’s been 9 months since Shadow died. His scientifically engineered disease took a toll on the whole family, but not as much as it did for Sonic. The blue hedgehog has been clinging onto his friends and children to stay mentally well during this time of grieving.

Somewhere along the way though, reality split. Timelines converged and the heart broken family witnessed a new face emerge into their front yard.

Danny laid flat on the ground groaning.

(ugh, what the hell happened??)

They looked up, the sun stung their eyes but as they blinked to restore their vision, they saw the house. And noticed... Papa!?

They had the urge to call to him but something felt off, not to mention the other kids that were with him. So Danny made a cautious move, pushing theirself off the ground and getting to their feet, they greeted them.

"Hello, I'm not from around here," they threaded a hand through their quills, "what do you call this place?" They asked with a smile.

Hearing Sonic speak, they blinked. Grief. They knew a bit about it but seeing it first hand was different than they imagined especially since it was Sonic.

They hold his hand tighter, "hang out with us first, we can talk to Dad before leaving... please?" Danny offered.

“I’ll stay.” Sonic agreed. His heart settled into the moment even though it kept wandering over to the grave.

Watching Danny play with the littles filled him with peace. “Just be present.” Amy reminded Sonic as the two sat together at the picnic table.

“Is something wrong? If there is anything you want to talk about, I’m willing to listen.” Sonic offered.

Jade toddled up to Danny and pulled at their outfit. Tiny emerald eyes looked up with curiosity, “bababa”

Danny looked down, their ears angled down with their expression. They pick up Jade gently and put them in their lap. They observed Jade's appearance and noted their physical resemblance to their dads.

Their eyes glistened but they didn't let tears fall. There was no reason to.

"Sometimes— sometimes I think he may have regretted taking me in." They bit their lip. "I do have black arms DNA but I'm not really theirs." they hold Jade's small hand.

Sonic sighed, giving compassionate eyes, “I don’t know about your Sonic and Shadow, but if they are anything like us, I know they love you very much. Shadow may not know how to show it, but he loves with everything he has.”

Then Sonic smiles, “just in the little bit of time I have gotten to know you I can see you are an amazing kid. You are kind and patient, you are so perceptive. If that tells me anything about you, you have amazing dads who care a lot about you. And if you are anything like Shadow was, don’t let your Black Arms heritage get you down. You are who you choose to be. That’s what I always told him.”

Danny listened to Sonic, smiled as his words dispelled their doubts.

Feeling better they lifted Jade up, "did you know that your out dad is the best guy ever?" Placing them on their lap and cuddling them gently.

"Thanks Papa." Danny's under eyes creased as they smiled.

Sonic watched the two with pride and endearment. How could he be so lucky to have children in other dimensions that are so kind and caring?

“Okay, I think I got the formula down.” Tails chimed, “it might take me a few days but I should have a dimensional portal ready to go for you. The hard part is making sure that you go to the right one.”

Danny blew a gentle raspberry to humour Jade, smiling widely at them before Tails walked in.

"oh... That's okay. If you need any help, I could lend a hand." Danny spoke to Tails, pointing to themself with their thumb. "Guess I will be here for a while, but I'm not complaining." They nuzzled their little sibling.

“If you don’t mind, Danny, I was wondering if I could learn a bit more about your Chaos Energy.” Tails asked. “You must have a very strong signature being as I can literally feel it.”

“That is if you are comfortable talking about it. Being of Black Arms heritage is traumatizing by itself.” Sonic added.

"Uhm.." Danny gulped, "yeah. The truth is... I wasn't actually born like this." They chuckled, rubbing the back of their neck. "From the file INO kept on me, I didn't have powers when I was abducted among others. I wasn't even this colour," they stretched out their arm for emphasis. "During the experiments, I was the only survivor. My original DNA was invaded by Black Arms and I became like this. The years I spent at the facility, I was trained and tested to be a power source for a bigger weapon— an army. But someone helped me escape."

"My power was unstable before Daddy found me. He taught me how to use my powers and even got the inhibitors to match, just the wrist pair though. There's more I can go on about but I'd rather not." They force a smile

“I get it. No need to go into details.” Tails reassured.

“Hey, since you’re here do you want to explore around?” Sonic suggested, “We can go to Maria’s Robotnik’s Memorial Garden, Amy’s bakery or we can visit Tails’ practice. And if you want we can take Shadow’s motorcycle. It’s one of the many things of his I still hold onto.”

Amy runs the shop throughout the week but leaves the store to her manager Jamie on weekends. Sunny Side Sweets is cleverly named with three S’s. Sonic, Shadow and Silver. Danny hops on the back of the motorcycle holding onto Sonic. Sonic insists that they were a helmet. The air is sweet and the sun is comforting for the both of them. Sonic and Shadow both loved summer. That was their favorite season.

As they arrive, they meet with Amy driving her silver suburban and she unloads the kiddos. The cute little shop sits mid town colored with bright yellows. Maria and Zephyr both clamber to the door, both hungry again from easily burning through their calorie intake. Amy carries Jade who begins to fuss. She knows she is wanting daddy so Amy hands of Jade to Sonic. The family enters the quaint shop and are greeted by a neon orange and white fox, “Hi! Nice to see the family! And who is this new face? My name is Jamie, by the way.”

Danny enjoyed the ride on the motorcycle, it reminded them of home.

Danny was in awe as they looked around the bakery, the smell of the goodies made them crave one immediately. They snapped back to reality when the fox introduced theirself.

"oh hey, I'm Danny. Jamie huh? Cute." they smile, waving at the fox.

Jamie showed Danny the display case, “Amy’s special snickerdoodle recipe is our most popular seller. We also sell breakfast items like quiche and burritos.”

Danny looked over the spread of chocolate, blueberry and strawberry muffins. Cookies of every kind and beautifully glazed doughnuts.

“I want a burrito.” Maria chimed.

“I want a chocolate sprinkle doughnut.” Zephyr pressed his face against the glass.

Danny perused their options, nothing really caught their eye. "Do you have any coffee-based pastries?" They tapped their fingers on the glass

“We do have tiramisu. That was one of Shadow’s favorites.” Jamie explained as she gathered food for Maria and Zephyr.

"oh, I'll have it." Danny said. They turned to Sonic, "will you get anything Papa?"

Sonic stared at the glass for a bit. Amy came to his side and gave him a reassuring smile.

“Yeah.” Sonic’s said, looking down at Danny, “I will get some of that blueberry lemon cheesecake.”

Jamie quickly gathered up the requested foods and handed them to the family.

Danny thanks Jamie before following Maria, holding both their and Sonic's order. They take a seat beside Maria and placed their tiramisu alongside the cheesecake on the table. Once everyone was seated, they called for Amy, "Miss Amy, how long have you had this place? It's a lot different from the bakery in my universe."

“I started this shop before the kids were created.” Amy said, “The business barely survived the Metal Virus, but we were able to rebuild thanks to the community.”

Amy sat Jade in a high chair and offered her some graham crackers. Then she sat down at the table with everyone else, “Does your Amy have a bakery?”

"yeah, she does. She partnered with Madame Vanilla and they run the shop together. I'm there sometimes, to help out of y'know, attract customers." They said with a smug smile.

“Well, you certainly are cute.” Amy giggled

“Can we go play at the garden after this?” Maria prodded her dad.

“If Danny wants to.” Sonic looked up from his cheese cake to see what they were thinking.

Danny gave Amy a grin then began savouring their tiramisu. When they noticed attention directed to them they smiled ruffling Maria's quills, "Yeah sure."

After they finished their meal, the family gathered up in the car while Sonic and Danny took the motorcycle to Maria Robotnik’s Memorial Garden.

The garden was surrounded by a copper tinted iron fencing with stars and swirls twisted into the metal. The garden was very large with lots of flowers and trees. The garden had multiple features. A pond. A playground. A statue of Maria and Shadow as its centerpiece, and over on a hill is where Shadow’s grave sits. Sonic rested the bike beside the playground and stood hesitantly, wondering if he should go visit Shadow.

She was definitely better than Eggman and... Radley.

As Sonic put the motorcycle aside, they noticed he seemed distant. That was odd and a bit scary. They gently took his hand. "Papa... you're not okay." They said with a worried expression.

“I’m fine… just… thinking about Shadow.” Sonic said. “I was thinking about going over to talk to him. Get some of my feelings out. Don’t feel obligated to come with though, kiddo. Jamie showed Danny the display case, “Amy’s special snickerdoodle recipe is our most popular seller. We also sell breakfast items like quiche and burritos.”

Danny looked over the spread of chocolate, blueberry and strawberry muffins. Cookies of every kind and beautifully glazed doughnuts.

“I want a burrito.” Maria chimed.

“I want a chocolate sprinkle doughnut.” Zephyr pressed his face against the glass.

Danny perused their options, nothing really caught their eye. "Do you have any coffee-based pastries?" They tapped their fingers on the glass

“We do have tiramisu. That was one of Shadow’s favorites.” Jamie explained as she gathered food for Maria and Zephyr.

It’s a warm sunny summer afternoon and it’s been 9 months since Shadow died. His scientifically engineered disease took a toll on the whole family, but not as much as it did for Sonic. The blue hedgehog has been clinging onto his friends and children to stay mentally well during this time of grieving.

Somewhere along the way though, reality split. Timelines converged and the heart broken family witnessed a new face emerge into their front yard.

Danny laid flat on the ground groaning.

(ugh, what the hell happened??)

They looked up, the sun stung their eyes but as they blinked to restore their vision, they saw the house. And noticed... Papa!?

They had the urge to call to him but something felt off, not to mention the other kids that were with him. So Danny made a cautious move, pushing theirself off the ground and getting to their feet, they greeted them.

"Hello, I'm not from around here," they threaded a hand through their quills, "what do you call this place?" They asked with a smile.

Danny played with their fingers, listening to Sonic with rapt attention. At Amy's addition Danny bit their lip.

They remembered the time Shadow had just up and left home for a couple of weeks, the arguements with Papa, and some other memories they didn't want resurfacing.

They rubbed their left forearm and turned their face away.

“Is something wrong? If there is anything you want to talk about, I’m willing to listen.” Sonic offered.

Jade toddled up to Danny and pulled at their outfit. Tiny emerald eyes looked up with curiosity, “bababa”

Danny looked down, their ears angled down with their expression. They pick up Jade gently and put them in their lap. They observed Jade's appearance and noted their physical resemblance to their dads.

Their eyes glistened but they didn't let tears fall. There was no reason to.

"Sometimes— sometimes I think he may have regretted taking me in." They bit their lip. "I do have black arms DNA but I'm not really theirs." they hold Jade's small hand.

Sonic sighed, giving compassionate eyes, “I don’t know about your Sonic and Shadow, but if they are anything like us, I know they love you very much. Shadow may not know how to show it, but he loves with everything he has.”

Then Sonic smiles, “just in the little bit of time I have gotten to know you I can see you are an amazing kid. You are kind and patient, you are so perceptive. If that tells me anything about you, you have amazing dads who care a lot about you. And if you are anything like Shadow was, don’t let your Black Arms heritage get you down. You are who you choose to be. That’s what I always told him.”

[hyperfantasies]

Danny listened to Sonic, smiled as his words dispelled their doubts.

Feeling better they lifted Jade up, "did you know that your out dad is the best guy ever?" Placing them on their lap and cuddling them gently.

"Thanks Papa." Danny's under eyes creased as they smiled.

“Dadadapapa.” Jade babbled

Sonic watched the two with pride and endearment. How could he be so lucky to have children in other dimensions that are so kind and caring?

“Okay, I think I got the formula down.” Tails chimed, “it might take me a few days but I should have a dimensional portal ready to go for you. The hard part is making sure that you go to the right one.”

Danny blew a gentle raspberry to humour Jade, smiling widely at them before Tails walked in.

"oh... That's okay. If you need any help, I could lend a hand." Danny spoke to Tails, pointing to themself with their thumb. "Guess I will be here for a while, but I'm not complaining." They nuzzled their little sibling.

“If you don’t mind, Danny, I was wondering if I could learn a bit more about your Chaos Energy.” Tails asked. “You must have a very strong signature being as I can literally feel it.”

“That is if you are comfortable talking about it. Being of Black Arms heritage is traumatizing by itself.” Sonic added.

[hyperfantasies]

"Uhm.." Danny gulped, "yeah. The truth is... I wasn't actually born like this." They chuckled, rubbing the back of their neck. "From the file INO kept on me, I didn't have powers when I was abducted among others. I wasn't even this colour," they stretched out their arm for emphasis. "During the experiments, I was the only survivor. My original DNA was invaded by Black Arms and I became like this. The years I spent at the facility, I was trained and tested to be a power source for a bigger weapon— an army. But someone helped me escape."

"My power was unstable before Daddy found me. He taught me how to use my powers and even got the inhibitors to match, just the wrist pair though. There's more I can go on about but I'd rather not." They force a smile

“I get it. No need to go into details.” Tails reassured.

“Hey, since you’re here do you want to explore around?” Sonic suggested, “We can go to Maria’s Robotnik’s Memorial Garden, Amy’s bakery or we can visit Tails’ practice. And if you want we can take Shadow’s motorcycle. It’s one of the many things of his I still hold onto.”

Amy runs the shop throughout the week but leaves the store to her manager Jamie on weekends. Sunny Side Sweets is cleverly named with three S’s. Sonic, Shadow and Silver. Danny hops on the back of the motorcycle holding onto Sonic. Sonic insists that they were a helmet. The air is sweet and the sun is comforting for the both of them. Sonic and Shadow both loved summer. That was their favorite season.

As they arrive, they meet with Amy driving her silver suburban and she unloads the kiddos. The cute little shop sits mid town colored with bright yellows. Maria and Zephyr both clamber to the door, both hungry again from easily burning through their calorie intake. Amy carries Jade who begins to fuss. She knows she is wanting daddy so Amy hands of Jade to Sonic. The family enters the quaint shop and are greeted by a neon orange and white fox, “Hi! Nice to see the family! And who is this new face? My name is Jamie, by the way.”

Danny enjoyed the ride on the motorcycle, it reminded them of home.

Danny was in awe as they looked around the bakery, the smell of the goodies made them crave one immediately. They snapped back to reality when the fox introduced theirself.

"oh hey, I'm Danny. Jamie huh? Cute." they smile, waving at the fox.
