This is my Sonadow exchange 2026 @sonadowexch gift for Ivoryforge. A little heavier than I usually write, but they do end up together in the end! This was a lot of fun to write and I really enjoyed the prompt! Mind the tags!

Finally finding a moment to post my gift for the @sonadowexch event! My gift was for @fluffalcat based on their fic 'Only the Moon as Their Witness' on AO3

This was my first year participating in the exchange (or any exchange actually) so I was real nervous about somehow doing this wrong. But everyone was so nice and it all worked out well :) I also decided to make my life more difficult by doing an illustrative work instead of written (cause I've never actually completed a fic before lmao) which meant learning how to upload images into AO3 hahaha But I got it in the end, learning new things. Maybe one day when I actually have something resembling free time again, away from the millions of tasks I willingly gave myself and am now slightly regretting, I'll try finishing that one fic I started... or the list of many other illustrations I want to make. But alas, that's for later. For now I'm rampaging through some other submissions and feasting on all the wonderful new works on AO3. Like 'Trust Fall' by Aurora2Sunset who was my giftee is so fun, quality content 🙌

Sonic always enjoyed Lancelot's company. He'd turned out to be way different from what their first meeting would have him believe. Beneath the outward layers of a fierce loyal knight, there lay an extremely compassionate soul, and Sonic found himself frequently wanting to peel back every superficial act Lance put up and dig into what he kept hidden behind all his walls.

…Not unlike Shadow, Sonic figures. Of course, there were differences in how both acted, but the similarities were uncanny at times; besides their shared appearance, they both kept a lot close to their chest, and it took a deliberate and consistent effort to get the guy to trust you enough to see his unguarded self.

And if there's something Sonic likes, it's a challenge.

Or, five times Sonic thought Shadow and Lancelot were similar, and one time he was proven wrong.

once again, this was written for the @sonadowexch !! i actively tried to push myself this time, but even so i still went waaaay overboard what i had originally planned out (stories rly do write themselves..) in the end i was rly happy w how it turned out tho, so it was worth it ^^

Summary: Shadow had thought he was immortal, but as he ages, it is becoming evident he is more mortal than he realized. After a battle and a few days of recovery (mandated by Omega and Rouge), Shadow spars Sonic. When Sonic learns of Shadow's mortality, he's less concerned about a future death, and more concerned about Shadow's going to do with the life he has.

Excerpt:

Loud explosions cascaded through the air. Shadow's ears twitched hearing each one. Usually his body didn't respond so sensitively to simple stimuli but something about the source being Sonic raised the fur on his body and sent his quills stiff. It didn't help that the hedgehog also continuously talked as he bounced around, red shoes barely touching the ground between each robot.

"I see you wanted to beta test some new bots today, Eggman," said the hedgehog as he stood on a robot arm and rested his hands on his hips. "Too bad they seem more like the alpha test. Need a little more work with stability and, uh," Sonic tapped his foot a few times against the metal and one of the screws popped out, which made Shadow snort to himself, "well, everything really. Back to the drawing board with you!"

"You insufferable blue rat!" shouted Eggman and mouthed Shadow, as this was a predictable confrontation he'd heard too many times before whenever Sonic showed up out of nowhere. "My bots are plenty strong enough to deal with you!"

"Hey, even Shadow down there just has to glare right at one of your bots and it keels over."

Shadow too was a bit predictable. His gaze narrowed into a sharp glare as he looked up at the other hedgehog, who had the gall to wave down at him in turn. "If only you would keel over the same as the bots, hedgehog."

"Ooh," said Sonic with an exaggerated shiver, "get a stonier glare and I'll have to start calling you Medusa." [x]

So! This blog has been pretty dead since April-ish, whoops!! Took a bit of a brake that turned into a hiatus, partly cus Life ™ and partly cus I was working on something for the @sonadowexch​! Thanks so much to Quill for hosting the event this year!! It was my first time participating and I’m really glad I took the plunge and did it!
