You walk into the Bitty Universe adoption center, hoping to find a new friend or two. You arenât that picky, so you figure youâd start with the more laidback bittys. The Sansys, the Softbones, the Rays... they seem like your kind of bitty.
You nod at the lady behind the counter and walk right into the meet and greet area. Sans types abound and you soon are all snuggled up with all the cuddlebugs. You pull out a book, and begin to read, all toasty.
The sound of a tiny throat clearing startles you out of the story and you peer around, searching for the source. âEXCUSE ME!â You look down, itâs a Boss, one of the âcaretakersâ assigned to keep a careful watch over the more fragile bittys that are now covering you like a living blanket.
He gestures to another bitty, a Papy, who stands at the armchair, waving his tiny little hands, trying to get your attention. Thereâs a glass of iced tea there, and you donât remember grabbing a glass before sitting down.
âPardon me, friend, but itâs been several hours! And, while I love a good story too, you should still remain hydrated!â He nudges the glass a bit further to your arm.
You blink and check the clock on the wall. Has it really been that late?! Your mouth does feel very dry. You thank the two bittys and gladly begin take a swig or five.Â
âSO. IS THAT,â the Boss gestures to the book in your lap âANY GOOD? OR IS IT SOME TWEEN NONSENSE?â You scoff at him playfully and start to explain the the book. Its characters, their lives, the plot twists, plot points left unvisited. The Papy is nodding along and he, along with the Boss continue to make sure you donât ignore the growling in your stomach or the crack in your voice.Â
You become more animated and begin to talk about more works from that author and works from similar authors. The excited moving seems to have awoken a few of the snuggle-monsters and they start to climb off you. The Boss gets you a blanket, though, so you hardly notice.Â
Its evening before you find yourself out of words and with a Papy on your shoulder, playing with your hair and a Boss trying to pretend that he doesnât like snuggling next to you in the blanket, but failing miserably. You end up leaving with the opposite of what you thought you wanted:Â A friendly and helpful Papy and an attentive Boss. Congrats!
