After rolling routine
yep, this happens from time to time. It's funny how I don't realize a strand is in my mouth until the end of training.
This is our small tribute to the mighty Kurt Osiander. We all love him. He is an amazing fighter and a very funny guy! And of course, we love his “Move of the week” jiu-jitsu lessons on youtube. Check it out here - http://www.youtube.com/user/ralphgracie/videos

this is so important
(As told to me by DC Maxwell) Some guy to Relson Gracie:
Guy: What is jiu-jitsu?
Relson: (manages not to laugh, thinks) Jiu-jitsu is...you do this, I do that. Forever.
Any advice for a bjj white belt?
Read this stuff, and maybe this stuff, and maybe especially this post, and learn how to do a really good hip/elbow escape, bridge, frame, and stand up in base then spend the rest of your life getting better at them. Unfortunately I didn’t tag any of my earlier stuff and I wish I could find some of those posts buried deep back there that were also pretty good.
That being said, if you have any more specific questions you’re having trouble with, I’ll be happy to try to help. I’m just bad at checking these messages very often.

Guy drilling with his pitbull
This is awesome
That is the most complacent/complicit dog let alone pitbull I’ve ever seen.

Yoga Inspiration
Realization
I realized that I don’t have healthy knees.
All those years of competitive running, hiking, and training were all heavy on my knees. I also had knee injuries in the past. So it came to no surprise at all that my knees hurt every time after coming out of training Jiu Jitsu. Leading up to my injury, I kept myself pretty active. BJJ twice a week (training sessions were around 3 hours long), long runs twice a week, and Weight Lifting in the gym on Saturdays. All in all, I workout 5 times a week.
Even though I am 23, my knees are probably that of a person 10 years older than me. I don’t even know how many miles I have ran. Running has been a favorite past time of mine; I do not want to quit that and training Jiu Jitsu. I run a local 8-Miler race every year with my brother. It will always be a tradition.
I just need to take an extra care of myself. I’ll ice my knees every time after every Jiu Jitsu, and replace one Long Run day with a gym day. When it is time to start training for my 8-Miler race, even though I hate ellipticals, stationary bike, and treadmills (I greatly prefer running outdoors), I must incorporate them for the sake of my knees and health. And I do want to enter a BJJ competition at least once.

Week 3 Update
After sparring a third person (we went at it pretty hard, even though we both agreed to go light), i injured my left knee. I sat out the next 2 rounds, resting and feeling out my knee. The pain did not subside. For the first time, i left the academy early. I am usually the last one's to leave because i help mop the mats, and its a rule for the lowerbelts to help out close-up. I lived close by, so i decided to walk it home.
Walking is fine, but my stabilizing ligaments hurt. Felt them whenever i walked up or down stairs. First BJJ injury, and it has to be my knee...
Took the rest of the week off from BJJ, and cardio.
