Today on Random Internet Finds: The Unboxed Ban
Unboxing cosmetic items in games are usually kinda fun, with some games using a gatcha system to dictate rarity right? And just as many of those live service games do seasonal events, therefore there are often seasonal gifts to go with something like the holidays or other celebrations.
This particular item is a Christmas gift gifted to people for Dota 2's Christmas event in 2023, and it is the absolute worst gift you could get.
INTRODUCING: THE HIGHLY TOXIC LUMP OF COAL
"Your Dota account has been permanently banned for Smurfing, or other violations of the Steam Terms of Service."
Opening the gift box and receiving this item bans your steam account from Dota 2 until 2038.
Valve gave these to cheaters and other unsavory players and its the funniest thing I've seen today
Here's a streamer getting banned for Christmas
moral of the story is don't be a cheater lmao

What do you mean “chat” is now referring to ChatGPT and not twitch chat? What? What? What the fuck? No?
When I address chat I am speaking to a presumed Greek chorus of real human people shitposting on their lunch break, not a machine that devours lakes to covert electricity into slop.
Today on Random Internet Finds: Eternal Jukebox
This website lets you take any Spotify track to generate a never-ending version of that song. while it doesn't seem to work with every song, when it does work you can literally listen to a song forever
HOW IT WORKS:
The site takes the Spotify API and breaks songs into individual beats, which can be chosen to "jump" between similarly sounding portions to create a seamless transition. This is then used to control which part of a song is played. The site even gives you this neat visualization with the jump points as well as how many times a beat has been played.
Here is Hampterdance at 1000 beats duration:
Here's the website so you can try it
4/5 website (though it doesn't work with all songs, might need this site in the coming weeks)

Today on Random Internet Finds: A most Controversial Beach Ball
I don't keep up with sports all that often but I thought this was pretty funny.
Behold. This beach ball is currently an exhibit in the National Football Museum in Manchester, England. It is perhaps the most controversial ball in history.
Imagine this:
It is October 17th 2009. It's a somewhat cold Saturday in the UK, and a Premier League game of football is happening between Sutherland and Liverpool. It's 9am and all is well.
A Liverpool fan has throw a beach ball onto the field. Normally nothing would happen, but as it turns out fate has decided to make this game a bit more interesting.
This ball was not removed fast enough, and history will remember this.
5 minutes into the game, Darren Bent kicks it into Liverpool's goal. This should not have counted as a goal, but it was indeed counted. The beach ball has scored a point in a game it was never meant to be in against the team emblazoned on its side.
This was the only goal all game and it's hilarious.
This game went on for 85 more minutes and Mike Jones (referee) did not catch this.
This led to the pure irony that a Liverpool fan, accidentally throwing a Liverpool beach ball purchased at the game (official merch btw!), has caused Liverpool to lose the game that day with the only goal of the day, right at the beginning.
This game is basically set in stone in history.
That season, Liverpool barely lost the league cup to Manchester in extra time, rather similar to how this match went from what I read.
See it for yourself here:

Today on Random Internet Finds: Tom
I was looking for some 3D models for Sketchup and needed a painting for a render right? So I went to the 3D Warehouse and searched for paintings.
For reasons unknown to me, I get several works of art from a user simply known as Tom. Tom makes abstract art using SketchUp, and its actually quite good????
This one's called Lighter than Yesterday.
While most "paintings" on the 3D warehouse are png textures pasted onto a box, Tom's models are the art. Every line you see here is actual SketchUp geometry breaking up different colors.
You know what the weirdest thing is? I tried to search for Tom organically again on the 3D warehouse and I couldn't find his art at all. I had to dig through my browser history to find the profile again.
Here's the profile so you can experience how I felt finding this

Today on Random Internet Finds: Spacedesk for PC
today I found a way to use my 10+ year old iPad as a secondary monitor on my computer using Spacedesk:
You just download the app on the app store on one device, and the driver and console version on the computer and BOOM, free touchscreen monitor for you computer.
I ended up drawing my desk setup on MSpaint using the touchscreen.
10/10 touchscreen setup, I refuse to let any of my old tech die >:]

Today on Random Internet Finds: Runaway to the Stars
One of my new favorite webcomic I have discovered by pure chance, Runaway to the Stars is a sci-fi story about communication, accommodation, and everyday life in co-species spaces.
It was made by Jay Eaton, and I absolutely adore the world building and story thus far so I'd recommend this one for a nice time.
You can read it here

belated 17776 day fanart !!! who’s ready to play football for eternity?
I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:
IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.
1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.
2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.
3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”
4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”
5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.
TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.
Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.
