Their interactions, though odd and slightly annoying, makes Rhys feel different. Sure, he hasn’t been in a proper relationship in a while now — two years to be exact — but that doesn’t mean he’s desperate. That doesn’t mean Rhys is slowly smiling, tucking his head downwards as if he’s trying to hide the glee from the man behind him.

Another Year

Merry Christmas @wilwarindi!  Here is your gift for the @bl-giftexchange!  I loved the fic you wrote last year, so I tried to write a follow-up to that, a year later, with Brick and Mordecai having their own Christmas on the road.  I hope you enjoy!! <3

Last year, Lilith had set up Christmas - Mercenary’s day - festivities for the four vault hunters, with a day for themselves and a day with the locals. Part of Mordecai still thought that was super patronizing, calling them that, but Roland was right – they were the locals.

This year, however, their usual grouping was split up on two separate bandit raids on opposite sides of Pandora, and Lilith was forced to delay the celebrations until after they got back.  Which was good, because Mordecai hadn’t found any presents yet.  

He figured he ought to get something good for Brick this year.  It had been a whole year of them being… whatever-they-were.  As personal and knowledgeable as Brick’s gift had been last year, when they’d just started being whatever-they-weres, this year it would likely only be more so.
