What I Learned
This semester I had the pleasure of not only being a part of the fashion merchandising program at my university, but also taking a course called Survey of the Fashion Industry. Although first taking it I merely grew bored because the material discussed was far too easy and so I honestly did not care about learning it, so I did not try. But, as the semester continued, I suddenly realized that I gained more knowledge than I had even noticed. Not only did the class talk about clothing and such but also about the economic factors of the business which is something good to learn and to know when considering going into business. Also, who knew you could actually pull off making an outfit out of staples and tape for your class’s fashion show and still manage to get compliments on your design. Of course I also learned about all the different categories of dinnerware, pearls, inner wear, (etc.), but what this class taught me the most is that there is no limit to what you want to do. This class taught me that expressing yourself should be encouraged. I learned this semester that you can wear a fanny pack and make it stylish if you truly believe that it is and if you feel confident in it, and that who knows, some famous celebrity might want you to be their own personal stylist after seeing it. Basically, being yourself and expressing yourself as an individual and bringing all your new, creative, innovative, ideas to the table can get you far in life, and who knows might one day have your own color copy-righted.
I would recommend this class to any student pursuing the track of fashion. x
