Just Hermit Things

i watch quite a few of the hermits regularly and decided to make a little list of their various quirks that i find interesting/endearing! always cool to see the different playing styles and personalities. i don’t watch them ALL tho so feel free to add on the ones i didn’t include!

mumbo: the blackscreen cuts when he wants to add commentary to a clip, Extreme Levels of Britishness, that long drawn-out groan he makes when he finds a mistake in a project, “i am NOT a builder!!” 

iskall: “hallo,” occasional impressions of other hermits, delightedly using english words that he finds funny, iskallMAN, breaking off in the middle of a sentence when something distracts him (eeeEEEEeeee-tho)

grian: the high-pitched strain to his voice when he’s panicking, Extreme Levels of Cheekiness, excessive use of firework rockets, has a skin for every and any occasion, intense love of cute things, “Absolute” as his favorite quantifier

keralis: all the little sayings he has that are triggered by random words, 3D printer-like building timelapses that he constantly apologizes for, that devious little snicker he makes when he’s being mischievous, nicknaming other hermits

ren: godly editing skills and commitment to storytelling, “oh, baby!”, bitchin’ background music throughout, adding ‘-age’ onto words (log-age, scrap-age), “laaadies get in liiiine~”

impulse: smiles that you can hear, drastically downplaying the sheer effort involved in massive amounts of grinding/building, the little hmm-ing and huh-ing he does when a redstone project isn’t working as intended

bdubs: dedicated sleeping to the point of obsession, the way he occasionally slurs words (schleep), that loud outraged laugh he has, the incredible things he does with his voice in general, “uh oh”

scar: super fast build mode, his little giggling, jellie, very straight-faced understated approach to trolling, dying so frequently that it’s hardly worth mentioning anymore, sudden shyness when lots of hermits are in a call

cleo: awkward stammering that often devolves into laughter, “it’s fiiiiiine”, casual threats of violence delivered completely straight, incredulous “pffffft”s, armor stand wizardry, occasionally dropping teacher knowledge

jevin: *does something cool* *immediately says something self-deprecating*  disproportionate prank retribution, COLOR THEORY, questions of the day

joe: playing minecraft exactly how its not supposed to be played, annoying his friends but like in an endearing way, saying “we’re fine. it’s fiiiiiiine” whenever something does wrong, just saying the weirdest shit that somehow makes sense, poems at the end of the videos

Zed: ‘hello, hello hello!’ absurdist humour as a fear response, holy montage editing batman!, cutting himself off halfway through a sentence to clarify a joke, doing his own sound effects while doing a repetitive task. cold open jokes, starting off grandiose statements and then adding more and more qualifications until its becomes self-depricating. killing tango as a bit

Beef: Talking directly to the viewers, starts off an idea - gets worried the idea won’t work- immediately jumps back into optimism and finds the positive, beefy tunes, opening obscure shops because he liked the idea of them, completely unphased by people, running joke that he taught etho everything he knows about redstone, renaming his food to random things and never addressing it, llama dad,

Tango: *falls off something*, completely refusing to succumb to peer pressure, -ificiator’, relishing in killing traders knowing people die inside when he doesn’t check the trades, *starts explaining red-stone, devolves into random noises and mumbling*, baby talking to mobs, gets distracted because he likes another hermits build, interspersing gibberish in his sentences when hes trying to remember what he was planning to say, flies directly into TnT explosions and survives

Cub: extending vowel sounds in his intro, memes, gets a Stupid amount done in one episode, does lawful feral things will maintaining a completely neutral tone, cuts away and has completed 8 projects, unexpectedly rounding off videos with earnest and sentimental words wishing the viewers well.

Things I love about etho, a list from sleep deprived

Someone swears and you hear a clap from etho and or when they stop and clap for editing

The lack of restraint with tnt

The lack of restraint when seeing a bat

The fact that when someone dies or something goes wrong he usually laughs and calls it interesting or amazing

Just his voice dude

The commitment to yes and (see bdubs giving him tnt and egging him on to blow up Mumbo base he puts down four pieces safely on some slabs while bdubs freaks out cuz mad lad did it)

The ability to straight face do something ridiculous

Disappearing from a recording more or less and coming back like yes hello I was here the whole time

The hint of a vibe of insecurity when he talks about shit like lowkey second guessing and admitting to not believeing in himself

the fact he still reads most of his comments to this day

whenever he references something about himself that people joke about often ('you see its been kindve a meme that i dont build roofs')

the fact that he named a spirit taxes in project ozone 3 for absolutely no reason

the outlandish canadian stories he tells which are hilarious

how he can somehow make a lot of the more boring technical aspects of the game (mob behaviour, redstone, things like that) become really calming and interesting with the way he handles it
