Merry Snippet Sundaymas, tagging all who celebrate, and writing about showering, apparently.
————
His hand fiddles with one of the switches until flopping to his side, mildly annoyed sigh tossing his head over his shoulder to announce said annoyance to the rest of the apartment.
"Power's out!"
A snort saunters backwards while a frustrated, "Oh, c'mon! I wanted to shower," throws something at the bed of Maka's room, returned shrug ultimately unseen as Maka herself does not emerge to raise an eyebrow at Soul until after he just answers, "You could still shower; Won't really need much hot water today."
"I need a light, dipstick," deadpan.
"…We should have candles?"
"Not after the séance incident."
Ah. "…Ah." His eyes dart around momentarily, before tossing up another shrug. "I'll hold a light or something. Won't have to worry about the curtain having been in a séance."
Expressions exchange secrets unbeknownst to them as Maka squints at him, looks somewhere not in this room, and stares back to him like he's an animal that needs to get out of the road. "You want to stand there while I'm showering?"
"Blindfold me," deadpan, borderline grumble.
Electrical fuzzy feeling of Maka staring into his soul for a solid half-minute. "…I'm not…"
Soul's thumb gets well-acquainted with the edges of the light in his grip, on the account of not much else to do with his eyes tied close with one of his old sweatbands (clean), aside from listen to the artificial rain and remaining in one of his preferred activities, which is looming vacantly against a wall.
Really, it's not that different than if they'd just left the doors open to air things out (such cases being during the séance incident), other than it takes Maka a significant pause before she sighs over the shower at this particular game of 20 Questions. "This word is evil; I didn't even think you could come up with one this bad."
Grin. "C'mon, you've got ten questions left."
"Hate."
A snicker shifts his weight to his other side, until an oddly familiar noise quiets them for a moment, unquieted with a click of gears that leaves him just a tiny bit pouty. "Aw man, I was gonna ask if we could eat out after this…"
"…I mean we still can – This week sucked," Maka resumes hurrying along with increased vigor.
Soul hrms and uses his mind to look over the tempting possibility of not having to work for dinner, instead being grumpily possessed by the unhinged desire of being a good person. "Mmmyeah, but I'd feel bad if the real me went and bought stuff for food; Would be a waste of money, and we should probably invite him anyway."
"Soul, you're not a clone."
"You can't disprove that," he mutters just quiet enough for the water to drown it out.
Unfortunately for him, she's finished up enough to turn it off, and sounds unhappy about it.
"How many times do I have to tell you that your soul wavelength is real, even if you can't turn into a weapon?"
The silence is as tense as his urge to bite into his lip, but – jester that he is – he sighs some levity back between the sounds of hair being cared for. "I don't know. Memory sucks, I guess. This is why my 20 Questions answers are so fucked-up and evil."
Before the conversation can keep going anywhere, circles or other shapes aside, the announcing presence of Maka's weapon enters into the apartment with a tinge of amused exhaustion.
"Power went out on the building and came back, I guess."
Both tenants currently residing in the bathroom hold deathly still in the headlight taking his shoes off by the door, as the only winning move is to not play while Maka's voice reaches out, somewhat strangled. "Yeah."
Thanks for givin' me another round, @chichirichick, haha (to your angst, I raise my sass).

An unfocused sigh turns his eyes down to his lifted arm, jaw clenching ever so slightly at the ornate handwriting steadily inking across his tan skin. It doesn't really hurt, per se, just mildly uncomfortable to feel her words mark along his body, especially as she has yet to ditch the habit of trying to save space in spite of only leaving a few words confirming their destination.
Demons are on the hunt for them again – Soul needs a new pair of shoes, and he's a terrible gambler with this backseat guardian angel calling the shots in his own body, but they make it work, which can be said more than how other halfsies end up in divine contact.
Sigh. Not really half of anything, at this point, only for boredom while the ink fades and starts anew, looking like the runes of a mad man, yet alas: A map. Incredibly mundane use of supernaturally co-signed real estate. The compass updating dynamically is kinda cool, though.
Soul sighs again as his thoughts pass its train through the notion of him probably looking like a creep, standing on the street corner at the dead end of the city, until it's pulled to station by the weight deep in his chest shifting, stealing the air from his lungs as his lightheaded vision momentarily blurs.
Huff… Just shake it off.
An indescribable feather-dusting behind his eyes cues him into taking a second sweep around his field of view, no tells of hostile shadows craving to turn his throat inside-out presenting themselves just yet – albeit the stench of hell's rust lingering is still palpable.
The sea ebbs and flows through his left ear, glancing Soul's resting disinterest back to the map bestowed upon the current state of affairs before his legs take their turn on stage, one bare foot in front of the other… What, you thought the mention of needing shoes was just throwaway prose?
The angel swimming in his head flutters his eyes back onto the road, no distractions.
Snippet Sunday, lesgoooo!! Thanks for the tag @silluuuu, glad we're gettin' the ball rolling again, haha

As with all lulls in the workday, Maka takes to playing the usual "Where's Soul?" while checking behind the counter first, guess spot-on with a brow scrunch towards whatever he's doing over his knees, sitting on the floor.
Approaching slowly as to not startle the perpetually dishevelled creature, Maka observes as Soul continues to click at the pen in his hand, finally scrawling something down into the miniature notepad with a casual regard to her looming audience.
"Taking a break from social media again, but I still have dumb tweets in my head," he mutters, flapping the analogue items in hand. "I got Post-It Notes and a pen."
A small hum is all Maka offers up in response while watching Soul's handwriting increase in neatness by 5%.
Two moments pass; One to finish writing, one to draw a crude depiction of an overly dramatic oppossum underneath the lettering. "…Kinda dumb doodle, but might as well. Classic meme."
"Hey, I think it's cute," her hand rebuttals into his shoulder, only getting a snort for a response, and a quick third moment to tear the post off and slap it on the nearest available surface of behind the counter.
"There. Send post."
A furrow in Soul's brow scoots him aside while watching Maka chuckle, lower down towards the newborn meme, and tap it with her fingers in a hummed off-key tune of some sort. The further confusion is answered with a smile. "It's got notes now."
Stare. Sigh, eye-roll. Helpless grin and a laugh while returning the earlier 'shove' with a fist-bump into her closest arm.
Actually had another snippet idea I debated on, so decided I might as well write it today, hah. Another weird'n, but not really a blood and gore thing.
————
His stare sighs at the rhythmic pulse emanating over his hands – not in, but hovering gently above his cupped palms – a pulse from a beating organ set loose, a human heart no longer contained in the cage of its ribs.
His heart.
It irks him. Not that it was particularly doing anything, not out of the norm of muscular motions keeping him alive aside from being tethered most abnormally, but it irked him. Emotionally, empathetically, Evans' weakest link.
Technically, with his own heart now outside of its body, he's practically immortal as long as it's out of sight, and yet there's this frustrated tension in his fingers, daring him to crush the damned thing into a pulped oblivion.
Not quite productive, really.
He sighs again as he considers what to do with it – Leave it somewhere? Lock it in his closet? Hand it off to someone else?
His face scrunches at the thought, if anyone really needed to be saddled with the responsibility of such a pointless thing.
Lock it up in a box, maybe?
His teeth grit, pushing the floating bane of his existence over to the edge of the piano bench he's yet to get up from – Weak, but not pathetic enough to entertain some dream of a fairytale lover come to swoop in and solve all of his problems for him.
"…I'm not some freaking damsel," Soul finally grumbles, snow-white hair having gotten long enough to drag his shoulders as his frown rests in his emptied hands, propped in his slouch. Somehow, letting his bangs run wild drew more attention than it put off, even with hiding his disinterested stare behind it.
In the nothing-in-particular that follows, Soul finds himself – or, rather, loses himself further in – not getting any less bothered by the cardial rhythm pulsing quietly next to him, difficult to ignore despite it… not really doing anything.
Huff. "Go… wander off somewhere," a hand flutters awkwardly, not touching it, for the problem to simply take its leave elsewhere.
At that, Soul's heart drifts aside, and then "hops" off the seat towards the floor, like a very weird fish in a private aquarium.
Much like the odd analogies, Soul can't help but lean his head away, stare following from between the grand piano's frame while the little organ swims circles around the piano's legs, eventually pulling Soul's curiousity around the other side until he's folded over himself at his heart finally settling on doing nothing beneath the bench.
Still hanging his head through his legs, another sigh mutters out Soul's disdain under his seat. "Weirdo."
As I slowly get back into the fanfic scene, so too does Snippet Sunday make its return! How to play: Pick at least six sentences from a WIP (or write something specifically for this if you're me, lmao), and tag someone else to pass it on!
I usually prefer getting tagged over the tagging, but I know @silluuuu, @chickycherrycola, and @chichirichick are currently writing (anyone's free to join in, though, haha).
That being said, it's weird but not entirely horrific hours.

Paper and fabric flop carelessly aside as Soul piles it all away. Soul's teeth grit and heave the couch forward towards the wall. Grunts stretch side to side with the motion of his arms dusting and wiping the counters aggressively.
Water cools his bare feet as Soul throws himself into mopping, hair kept from swaying into his eyes with a bandana holding his focus back, trying not to slip in the rush hour of cleaner and barely heard music sitting neglected through the apartment. Huffs keep his stare gliding along the hardwood tile, but inevitably, it flicks to a gangly shadow lurking by the door to his room, hunched under the top of its frame.
"…It's done. Maka's moving in," Soul mutters into the used water squeezing out mercilessly.
The dark figure, all spindly and twisted into the shape of a person, walks along the edge of his vision, over to belongings scattered across the disarrayed cushions with hoarse, hushed lament. "…The girl is staying…"
It pauses Soul, glancing tentatively at the black sunflower with more teeth than stare, spider legs for fingers – made more for creeping around corners, yet gently lifting a notebook with the care of a widow. "…It's not going to be quiet anymore…"
"…She's not going to make a lot of noise at night," Soul shrugs back into mopping.
The black sunflower sighs in forlorn whispers, drooping.
"You see me in everything; The corners, the doors, the hallways turning elsewhere. She'll take up everywhere I stand, and her little things will push me away, until… nothing becomes something…"
Another pause leans a brow furrow against the handle, tongue feeling over the sharp edges of his mouth until Soul nudges his head towards the door, readying another round of mopping. "You can still have my closet. She's going to take the other room."
"…Oh?" A snort does not eye the questionable excitement lifting its voices. "Then… I'll untidy up!"
Soul only catches a glimpse of the dark figure eagerly perking up and swaying with purpose back towards his room, an amused nod running through his head as he looks towards the reorganised items on the couch and carries on.
Interested in doing another consensus before I find my footing in re-editing and fixing up tags of my past AO3 works.
Originally, I kept every Soul and Maka fic where their dynamic is in focus tagged with "Soul/Maka" + General Relationship (non-romantic or romance not stated). What I want to do is split these General Relationship fics into "Soul&Maka" (platonic), but I'm having another session of doubts:
Soul/Maka is the easiest way to find them, and some stated that the previous system with "General Relationships" functions well enough.
However, a lot of my works do not touch upon romance (and may give the wrong impression), thus Soul&Maka feels more fitting, but I've been told the & tag is mostly for Soul and Maka as bg characters.
There may also potentially cause confusion if older fics have their / tag changed..?
So, that being said...
Should I keep to the "/" with Gen system?
Yes, it works as intended for sorting purposes.
No, changing to "&" will provide better clarity for fics.
My askbox has been officially cleaned out! Not that I intend to close it, but I'm gonna try to do at least a couple Art Fight attacks this year (BlackBloodSoul on Team Mystery).
Far too swift and clever, Death's soldiers could never catch her, and always on departure she declared, “Only the most curious will get their answer.”
Ayo, looks like the door works again! Bit early, but you're right on time for some freshly cut watermelon – Help yourself to a slice or two (I sure's heck can't eat all this by myself)!
Hi, I was cleaning some things in my house and I found those two little sillies Stuck together,I tried to separate them the red one didn't let me tho-, I heard you are a specialist in variants, can you take care of them and tell me what they would be? They look more like dust balls or sea bunnies i dunno.. but they're very fluffy
Dust Bugs! They live in secluded corners that have gathered dust in people's homes, keeping to the safety of small tight-knit groups while hunting common household pests and fascinating over misplaced objects.
Just give them something sweet to nibble on and they'll be more comfortable with your presence if they need relocated!
A certain gossiping cat with magical pumpkin powers told me you had a Soul Bat? 👀
We've certainly had a handful around here, that's for sure, haha
This bat Soul, though, is known for manipulating air currents, both to effortlessly keep in flight while detecting prey and swooping in with inescapable whirlwinds. Although many think he's mute due to his asocial tendencies, he's actually a bit of a chatterbox if he likes you enough.
Not particularly combative, but his aerial attacks are no joke.
