«One can be a discontent – that is, an insurgent or a revolutionary – but there is also that more literal, personal meaning of the word which may be in most cases equally applicable to those to which we refer here and, in either case, there is a sort of disruption implicit, as in a hypnopompic state.»
A non–linear mix by Michael Anderson / Drekka, with portrait interludes by Mark Trecka. Performed and mixed live 21 October 2015 at The Artifex Guild, Bloomington, Indiana by Michael Anderson.
Words part by Mark Trecka
Michael Anderson is a composer behind Drekka, who has recently released two of his trilogy of albums for Dais Records, which includes a modern masterpiece 'Unbeknownst To The Participants At Hand', that refers to the debut full–length film by Michael Haneke's The Seventh Continent. Alongside that Anderson has a long–running own label Bluesanct, started in 1996 and which continues to release music up to date. Sleep Patterns of the Discontent is Anderson's second and final piece for this year after a new album Verjaardag, in which Michael reworks vocals of his collaborator and muse Annelies Monseré.
Michael Anderson: «For me, this mix is a night's sleep... the dreams come and go, mingling and juxtaposing each other. In moments between dreams, we hear from the poet who gives homage to five artists whose work has challenged us to think and to use our own frustration with the world around us to cathartic creative ends.»
Mark Trecka: «Included throughout the mix are five imaginal / poetic portraits of five artists who may or may not be or have been discontent; unsatisfied with their own personal situation or their own personal feelings about the world. These artists in some way or another reach beyond the situation in which they emerge.
The five portraits were written and recorded by writer, artist, and performer Mark Trecka, and interwoven into the mix by Drekka.»

Killer experimental electronics from formerly disappeared talent AD Jacques (Andrew Jacques) – originally recorded live at Blackest Ever Black’s Corsica Studios event, 15.10 and was later post–processed for Blackened Disco. This recording is also the first new public output from Andrew since his last year appearance on BEB’s “Low Company” compilation with track “Augur Induction” (amongst F ingers, Af Ursin, Stefan Jaworzyn, Officer! and others). It’s our pleasure to unleash Andrew’s music which has a sensitivity of early industrial records, but merged with futuristic beats and drones in a very unique way.
With Officer!’s first issue of the long–lost album “Dead Unique” and reissue of Gareth Williams & Mary Currie’s “Flaming Tunes”, Andrew first came into relationships with Kiran Sande, then performed on the first Blackest Ever Black’s 2012 event at Corsica Studios (the sounds of which were specially produced for that event and are planned to be on his long-awaited debut LP). After that, he played on 2013 and 2015 editions of BEB’s annual events and finally contributed to the label with a record, already mentioned Augur Induction – a purely stunning avant-garde piece that feels like Autechre meets David Lynch in a contemporary London’s paranoia. Same goes with this 34 minutes–long live recording.
N.B. Due to the technical specifics of the recording process, these sounds came into mysterious and a bit otherworldly form and recommended to be played as loud as possible. And it’s our wish now to hear these compositions with a proper Noel Summerville’s mastering.
AD Jacques also has a new record selection podcast which comes later.
AD Jacques debut yet untitled LP is coming soon on Blackest Ever Black.

Also, check out Kiran Sande’s mix back from 2013 called “The King Was In His Counting House” with AD Jacques' "Untitled Live Excerpt" on it (starts around 18 minutes), which is also going be on his LP.
Stunning one hour collection of the previously unpublished compositions and live recordings 2014-2016 made with tape loops, musique concrete, instrumental, field and studio recordings by French avantgarde composer Marc Baron. First four pieces are still unreleased and one is a live recording made in Paris (where Marc's actually based). Worried and emotional, expressive and complete.
It's the first record since Marc Baron debuted with first vinyl album Carnets on Jason Lescalleet's Glistening Examples, year after the killer release Hidden Tapes on french label Potlatch, who will release Baron's next record coming out this summer and you can hear to excerpt on this selection. The mix, as previous records is about various forms of modern and adventurous field recordings, electroacoustics, musique concrète and contemporary noise.
This recording will inspire if you're into Antoine Chessex, Second Sleep back catalog, Jason Lescalleet or Recollection GRM.

Blackened Disco 47 is a new forty minutes live piece by the Australian-born, French-based drummer Will Guthrie.
Will Guthrie is a contemporary percussionist whose records were released by various labels – from greek marginal absurd records in collaboration with Ferran Fages, to Erstwhile (killer release with Jérôme Noetinger), Ideal Records (that released one of Guthrie’s finest piece to date, Sacrée Obsession). His solo recording at Cafe OTO was released last month as part of their digital series, and a new album is on its way. Will was also a part of the currently non-active modern group Thymolphthalien which was initiated by Anthony Pateras and released their crushing second and last album Mad Among The Mad last year on Pateras’s Immediata.
The piece entitled “Livz” and was recorded at the one of Guthrie’s recent performances in Europe and published in original form of that concert.
It's the first time that Mark Harwood selected records under the Astor alias, following up last year's Catastrophe and Cafe OTO recordings and a trio of albums – Alcor & Inland for Kye and Lina In Nida for Penultimate Press. One of the favorite artists with the fresh, absorbing selection that opens with deadly brilliant Matthew P. Hopkins' Fog Study and have also few mysterious forthcoming pieces on Penultimate Press.
Years ago, Mark moved from Melbourne (where he ran Synaesthesia label and record shop) to London, where the life of Penultimate Press and the label’s charming online shop starts. Harwood is are also a regular Cafe OTO events curator, who recently did concerts by Michel Chion (performed his musique concrète masterwork Requiem) and an event with Ora Clementi (crys cole and James Rushford), Widt, Derek Baron & John Welsh. Harwood's Penultimate Press label action is stunning this year so far – there's the second part of Étant Donnés reissues trilogy, this time it's Royaume and Aimant + Aimant, Korea Undok Group tapes reissue on vinyl, also reissue of Henning Christiansen's masterpiece Requiem of Art fluxorum organum II Opus 50 and the outstanding new albums of Matthew P. Hopkins and Derek Baron.
More or less this mix is about everything Mark has done up to now or an aura around Harwood's label, sound pieces and events. This selection touches on musique concrète, field recordings, tape loops, fog atmosphere and unindentifical sources of sounds. In other words – just an immersive record, that can be a pair to Astor's live recording that was released digital by OTO.

Disco's pleased to publish a selection by Luca Garino (also known as Psalm'n'Locker) – the face behind La délirante and one of the promising Turin's new artists, whose forthcoming tape release The Woodcarver will see the light on another new and deadly influential Italian label Canti Magnetici.
La délirante is a programm on Turin's Radio Banda Larga that hosts mixes by the artists with a wide musical perspective – from Cafe OTO's Fielding Hope, cello player Alec Livaditis and Matthew P. Hopkins to the Italian artists such as Giovanni Lami and Massimo Carozzi and there are also rare selections by Dan Melchior, Dylan Nyoukis and Giancarlo Toniutti. Alongside radio, La délirante operates as s record label, that to date has released works of Robert Turman, Moniek Darge and Garino's own group Malaria Pop among others. Below is the list of artists that present on the mix where you can find everyone who forced Luca to do something very special in a musical way.

Our new, insane and isolated mix by Berlin’s Mauro Diciocia, the person behind Torba and private record label Aaltra. Disco forty four is obsession, specific and special record with field recordings from Ethiopia and music from Jani Christou, Jürgen Ploog, Krube., Toshi Ichiyanagi, Schimpfluch-Gruppe, Edgard Varèse, Giacinto Scelsi, new Torba piece from the next release and more.
Some of Mauro’s recent recordings were released by Mazurka Editions, Archivio Diafònico and Angoisse. Torba’s Sqòrt album, originally produced for release on Luca Vinciguerra’s A Dear Girl Called Wendy, but then, after unexpected label’s close, has found home this year on Total Black. His actually non-active own label, Aaltra, at the moment have released some seven inches, CD-Rs and tapes from Vomir, Dave Phillips (with the wonderful Walk Out composition on it) and from the man himself. For years, Torba has performed with Sindre Bjerga and Andreas Brandal, Sewer Election, Krube., Händer som vårdar, Broken Lights, Claudio Rocchetti, Gordon Ashworth, Croatian Amor, Ketev among others. And this deadly selection is for your thrilling listen.

Michael is also composing music solo under his real name for Geräuschmanufaktur, The Tapeworm, Banned Production and Zelphabet and together with John Duncan, GX Jupitter-Larsen and Michael Esposito.
For our 43d podcast, Michael has thoroughly selected some label's records from the past years and also included an excerpt from Alice Kemp's new album (featuring Rudolf Eb.er) "Fill my Body with Flowers and Rice", which starts around 18th minute and comes out this Summer/Autumn; sounds from the recent Leif Elggren's release "Das Baank" and the new but yet untitled musique concrète piece by Muennich in the style of Dave Phillips, Lettera 22 or John Wiese, which sounds just as stunning.

Blackened Disco's 42nd mix is the new improvisational piece by Alexander Schneider, Berlin's sound artist who creates musique concrète, electroacoustical compositions and field recordings as Krube. and regularly performed at a now closed NK Projekt (and their OHM showcase as part of 2015 Berlin Atonal). His music was released on Hrönir (as split with Daniel Löwenbrück of Raionbashi), Fragment Factory, Angoisse (also as split with Torba), on Matthias Anderson's I Dischi Del Barone and last year on Total Black as a solo cassette (his show was a part of TB's event at Urban Spree with Puce Mary and Pedestrian Deposit as well).
This 40 minutes long composition is the first recording of Alexander this year and sounds more as a specifical companion to Schneider's last year Total Black CS. It starts as traditional style of Krube.'s sounds works and it transforms then in the form of a cracked delaying piece.
Here is a list of some of our favorite mixes, counts only for those which are available online and you can listen to them. Most of the mixes are from one specific period that inspired us and some other people. In other words, it's just a bunch of contemporary / rare mixes, that we think people need to know about.

“WHAT I WANTED TO DO WITH THIS PIECE/MIX WAS TO INCORPORATE WHAT I THINK WERE THE BEST PARTS OF WHAT PAN PUT OUT IN 2013. SO I TOOK 10 PAN RELEASES AND CUT THEM UP INTO SMALL PORTIONS OF SOUND, FUSING THEM WITH OTHER RECORDINGS FROM MY ARCHIVE. PERFORMED LIVE USING THE SP404, A CD PLAYER AND A TAPE COMPRESSOR. Joachim Nordwall is one of the most active Swedish artists for more than 20 years, co-founder of Börft Records and the founder of iDEAL Recordings and iDEAL festival, a member of Saturn And The Sun, The Skull Defekts and Fire! Orchestra formations and also the composer behind Soul Music parts 1 and 2, his latest album series for Entr'acte, alongside with Psychic Propaganda and Psychic Reality cassettes for Hospital Productions.
Here, on the rich discography of iDEAL Recordings, you can find the important, outerlimit and crushing records by Will Guthrie, Stephen O'Malley, John Duncan, Altar Of Flies, Paal Nilssen-Love, Daniel Löwenbrück (Raionbashi) & Marcellvs L., Ornament, Hypnotower, Smegma and many others, who made iDEAL's back catalog very expressive and well-known. As usual, Joachim has some forthcoming CD/LP releases and you can listen some excerpts from them here – music by Mika Vainio, John Duncan's Riot reissue, Ectoplasm Girls (Nadine and Tanya Byrne) and Lettera 22's Riccardo Mazza. In addition to that, unreleased compositions by J. Nordwall and Mats Gustafsson, Alvars Orkester and The Gagmen (heavy collaboration between Nordwall, Aaron Dilloway and Nate Young).

Justin Lakes is originally Cincinnati but now Brooklyn-based artist who was taking part in several noise acts but more recently recognised the most as Shredded Nerve, which is right now successful in making harsh, paranoid tape loops with miscellaneous junk, metal and primitive electronics sounds which are mixed in that right condition that just envelop you. SN had some killer releases for Chondritic Sound, No Rent and Torn Light and has a few forthcoming LPs – "Long After You've Gone" for the great A Dear Girl Called Wendy and vinyl version of "In The Shadow Of What Never Was" for Chondritic Sound. This mix is Justin's reverence to Midwest America noise scene where he is from, and it contains pieces (including some unreleased and forthcoming stuff) from artists like Dog Lady, Skin Graft, Gnawed and others.

Christopher is the New York based artist who is best known for co-running Ascetic House, playing in Warthog band and his solo noise Ligature project (which has just released a tape on Clandestine Compositions and has few forthcoming releases on Joy De Vivre and No Rent), alongside with helping Sacred Bones, Blackest Ever Black, Hospital Productions, Dais Records, Posh Isolation and Waxwork labels in US. He has recently took part in Total Black's New Brutalism compilation and this mix is made in quite the same path where artists like Pedestrian Deposit, Chris Watson, Vanessa Amara, Shredded Nerve (Blackened Disco 39), Marc Baron, Damien Dubrovnik and others compiled together. Feels austere and subtle at the same time.
Christopher about the mix: «I crafted this mix to showcase mostly contemporary (excluding Gerald Busby) projects that have impacted me in one way or another.
The biggest influence on Ligature is the gumption of my peers.
There are handfuls of other people I would have liked to include here but this is what came out naturally.
I also personally love the juxtaposition of the incredibly harsh mashed with the overtly emotional... or, say, how a Pedestrian Deposit track can somehow make sense close in space to a Gerald Busby piece from 3 Women.
It all makes sense in my head.»
