Was rereading Requiem of the Rose King and thinking about how interesting Richard and Buckingham's relationship is. Frankly speaking Buckingham can be kind of a creep if you consider how he got into Richard's bed, like he created a dangerous situation that basically forced Richard to reveal his body to him and take advantage of that and that frankly speaking could edge into dub-con territory. But the thing about Buckingham is that unlike what Elizabethan writer did about Richard III's supposed hunchback (they tend to link physical deformity to evilness and immorality), Buckingham did not link Richard's body to being evil or cursed exactly (that's what Richard's mother did). He also somehow avoided exploiting Richard's internalized shame about his own form and identity (by not using that as blackmail to coerce him into sex), but instead consider it the reason why Richard alwyas avoid at naming and acting on his own desire. Buckingham was somehow treating Richard's body as an object that he desire, that he would bargain for by using the crown as a leverage, which is a leverage that he believed Richard was vulnerable for; it's definitely objectifying, but somehow still managed to be better than some typical sex black-mail plot. And he was right in that he saw through Richard's surface level of desire, that is to be a king that would honor the Yorkist dynasty, and it kinda revitalized Richard a bit out of the "I'm a tool and weapon" state, but it instead vitalized him into a destructive direction. I mean like. These two guys clearly has a pathologic need for power grabbing that probably originated from being powerless pawn and children in adults' political gambles, especially Buckingham, but the thing is that Buck's issue can be kinda sated by having power and commanding attention, while Richard's issue is kind of like a manifestation of a deeper issue that is he wants to exist in a way that is loved and not shameful, which the crown isn't going to give him. Then there's the fact Buckingham is terrible at falling in love and be normal and be NOT possessive and Richard has been gaslit by York that the crown can bring happiness to whoever wears it. Yay disasterous toxic yaoi. I'm reading too deep into this shit.

I should start randomly yelling "Thus I am determinèd to prove a villain" whenever I feel bad or someone pisses me off. I mean the Requiem of the Rose King obsession isn't helping so this also doesn't help but it'll probably feel cathartic. At least it helps a bit in stop feeling guilty over minor things not my fault.

Still kinda hate how Shakespeare character assassinated multiple historical figures but when you get past that and get into the play itself, and the social context around the play, and the historical context about the actual events, they were indeed interesting.

So I tried to watch the 1955 Shakespeare film version of Richard III, basically the famous one played by Laurence Olivier and the one everyone claim is a classic, and I have to turn if off after like 10 minutes. No it's not becaise of the gleefully evil gremlin vibe (it's fine, that's one character trope that is interesting), not the hunchback caricature (outdated so understandable), not the smug monologue (I can just close my eyes and vibe to it).

IT'S THE FUCKING EYE CONTACT. Bro why is he staring at me. CONSTANTLY. Who the fuck does that. Feels like bro is commiting burglary across time and space. I hate eye contact and this is way worse, this is metaphorical sharp-nail-over-chalkboard. Also for whatever reason it makes me incredibly self-conscious about my physical existence which I did not ask for on weekends. Fucking hell man.

Why the fuck does a book on "Medieval European Clothes and Fashion" is all about Burgundy, France, Italy, Byzantine, Holy Roman Empire etc. and there's NOTHING about England or Scotland. I don't get it. Am I misunderstanding something or did the fucking island not count as Europe in Medieval times. Fucking hell.

Sometimes I wish I could just exist as a floating brain. No physical form. I mean I didn't consent to owning the one I have now anyway. I was yeeted into the world. Nobody asked if I want to be here or if I want this body. Yes I know. The concept itself is absurd. Nature works in mysterious ways and all that. This isn't a video game, it didn't come with a character creation page. But I still sometimes think about it.

And then I start hoping everyone could just be a brain floating in space. Yes that's abhorrent, because many people do enjoy their physical existence, I know. But still, that way I could feel less like a weirdo for thinking this. Also helps me think less about other people's body (haha).

Yeah thinking about this is useless and I should go do something else.

I wonder if there's some obscure analysis/essay hidden somewhere in the corner of Internet that analayze Requiem of the Rose King side by side with Richard III the play.

It would be genuinely interesting to see how some manga plots parallel or deviate from the play it took inspiration from, and how Richard/Buckingham/literally everyone else's character differ from the Shakespearean version, and consequently their historical counterpart. Not in the shallow "Richard is more evil in the play" way cause we know that already, but something more intricate and in depth

.... Honestly though I don't think it exist. RotRK doesn't look very popular and all that. Such a shame, if it exist it would have been super interesting.
