For the last project in my 2D design class students will have to find and use unconventional materials to create an illustration. My Advanced students have to do the same thing, but in a triptych story format instead.
Here is the start of my example for the students. Painting with different teas on water color paper.
After I finish the image I plan on using old makeup and sewing techniques to add texture and color tone.

What brings an artist to leave New York City? In the latest film from the ART21 New York Close Up series, artist Alejandro Almanza Pereda decides to leave New York City for Mexico City, taking on one last project before having to vacate his Hunter College MFA studio.

Art Teachers turned 1 today!
If you haven't seen this artist yet. Go check her out! When it is warmer in two weeks I am taking my students out to do a photography assignment based off this artist. I’ll post some of my own attempts with friends from this weekend.

So, we haven't done such a great job at keeping this up to date like we had originally planned. However, Mrs. Chester is trying again! Miss. Doyle has been busy this year, and it looks more like this will be a solo project. So, for those 7 followers who miraculously showed up (when did that happen? COOL!), I (Mrs. Chester) hope I don’t let you down! We are trying again!
This mixed media piece is done by the artist Sandra Chevrier. Please take some time to fall in love with her mixed media works between the female figure and vintage comic book pages. When to begin...
Still figuring out when this will start. As teachers getting a moment long enough to pause and think about technology can sometimes be difficult. Once we start, the goal is to speak, share, post about art once a day everyday for as many days as we can. We are only human, so there will be lapses at times.. but hopefully this will be a great learning experience as well.
