I am a selective roleplayer. The reason for this is:

Finding a roleplay partner is almost like dating. You need the right chemistry to write with one another. I enjoy writing very much! I would like to roleplay with others who also enjoy it very much. I will only write plotted rps with others who are serious about writing and creating a story together. Otherwise, small interactions are ok.  I enjoy plotting and watching characters grow with each other. If I write for you, then I would like some sort of response back. I don’t need, nor expect, an immediate response, but if two months goes by and there's no direct communication, I will assume you are no longer interested. If my responses are forgotten or lost, I feel very disrespected. I will not rp with you. Writing takes a lot of time and heart.

If we are not right for rping with each other, I am ok with ask or blog posts! I enjoy small interactions, but please clearly communicate this with me. I will also share and respond back to you!

Series: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Crisis Core, Before Crisis

Role: Turk/Investigation Sector of the General Affairs Department/mother hen of the rookie Turks/Keeping Reno alive/Spying on Zack/Gongaga Youth Coalition leader

Short History:

Despite her young age, she is a senior Turk. An orphan raised in a Shinra training facility, she was recruited into the Turks at a young age. For the longest time, she was trained to believe that everyone outside of Shinra was an enemy. Reno and Rude assisted in helping her lighten up, while Veld showed the Turks that they did not have to be bad people after hours. Cissnei understands that Shinra does terrible things, but she also thinks its for the great good and the benefit of the people. In Before Crisis, she had to make a decision between listening to Shinra or defying the executives to keep the Turks safe. She decided the latter. Veld is the closest person to a father figure she had and she was willing to defy Shinra in order to help him save his daughter. In the end, the original group of Turks scatter after defeating Avalanche to keep their lives. Rufus was able to fake their death certificates, but manages to convince his father of Reno, Rude, and Tseng's loyalty. This was meant to solidify the Turks' loyalty to him.

In Crisis Core, it is revealed that while she was trying to keep her fellow Turks alive - original Avalanche (who wanted to scorch all life on Gaia to save it), a petty Rufus paying Avalanche to overthrow his father, and the Shinra Executive's who feared them - that she also was busy dealing with Genesis copies. It is here she was assigned to keep an eye on Zack in hopes they would lead them to the defectors.

In the end, she ended up feeling terrible for the things Zack was going through. She felt he never deserved any of the misfortune being brought to him. Which is why she defied Tseng...a decision she will come to regret. Tseng had felt the same as her and wanted her to take him into custody to keep him safe - something she did not understand at the time.

To make up for this regret, she stays in Gongaga to watch over Zack's parents. Though, it is eluded that she is stationed there to watch over Shinra's decommissioned structures. Maybe it also makes her feel closer to Zack, as she has a strange feeling that he could return at any moment...

Just revisiting Before Crisis Concept art. And I think Nunchaku and Shuriken would have made the cutest Turk partners. Both of them charismatic in their own ways - Nunchaku in his old money socialite ways and Cissnei in her quiet street rat charms.

Parsnip or Carrot? [Open]

The heavy clay pot bubbled lazily on the stove, filling the small Gongaga kitchen with the savory steam of simmering chicken broth. Her hands bandaged with so many cooking attempts to try to finally cook the Fairs something to eat to repay their good will. She had to get it right eventually...right?

Cissnei stood over her cutting board, knife suspended mid-air, staring intently at the long, pale root in her left hand. She held up an orange carrot in her right for comparison.

Same shape. Same ridged skin. Same leafy crown.

"White carrot," she muttered softly. "Has to be."

She sliced a thin round off the pale root, brought it to her nose, and paused. It didn't smell like a carrot. It smelled sweeter.

She popped the raw disc into her mouth and chewed slowly, analyzing the flavor with the same level of analysis she reserved for scouting missions. The crunch was identical, but the taste hit her tongue with a peppery sweetness.

"Or a carrot that's trying too hard," she amended.

reports,    files,    endless    field    accounts    the    rookies    had    written,    either    approving    their    understanding    of    the    situation    or    writing    down    a    contradictory    report    himself,    pieced    together    from    his    memory    of    those    days.    he'd    let    them    pile    up    for    too    long,    barely    able    to    recall    the    date    that    was    jotted    down    so    neatly    by    a    kid    far    too    eager    for    this    line    of    work.

tap    tap    tap,    the    steady    rhythm    of    his    pen    drumming    against    the    table,    his    body    slouched    so    far    into    his    chair.    this    was    really    the    shitty    crux    of    the    work.    not    the    gunfights,    not    the    blood,    not    the    impossible    missions    ━━━━    no,    it    was    this.    if    he    dug    enough    through    his    desk,    surely    there'd    be    a    more    interesting    task    to    complete,    one    that    demanded    he    get    off    the    desk    &&    join    the    field.    he    promptly    lifts    two    files    off    the    stack,    flicks    through    them    with    growing    disappointment,    before    company    suddenly    arrives.

copper    hair    floods    his    field    of    vision    for    a    moment,    the    familiar    flash    impossible    to    mistake,    pen    dropped    in    favour    of    giving    his    attention    to    the    younger    turk.    he    leans    back    in    his    chair,    its    worn    frame    answering    with    a    small    squeak    of    protest    that    goes    entirely    ignored    as    his    head    falls    back,    peering    up    at    them    with    a    lopsided    grin.    ❛❛    ya    know    how    t'is,    same    shit    different    smell    ❜❜    his    wallmarket    accent    is    laid    on    thick,    reaching    out    to    grab    the    chilled    can    with    a    hummed    thanks.    ❛❛    should    be    givin'    us    mako    injections    with    all    da    SOLDIER    work    we're    doin',    not    to    mention    'm    basically    mother    henning    all    the    newbies    these    days.    ❜❜

Cissnei hums, an amused glint touching her eyes as she shifts away from him. Just enough to lean against his desk, crossing her ankles. She pops her coffee open with an easy flick of her wrist.

“You? A mother hen? The rookies would be terrified if they heard you say that. Mostly because they’d expect you to bite.” Meanwhile, Cissnei was overly protective of them. She had been a Wall Market orphan picked up by Shinra and indoctrinated through brutal training at a terribly young age before being selected by Verdot. Because of this, she treated all her fellow Turks as her adoptive family.

She glances at the top file on his pile, casually flicking it open to scan the first page. “Besides, if Shinra gave us Mako, they’d expect us to work twenty-four hours a day instead of just twenty. And it clearly cuts life expectancy in half. I like my nine lives for the mission.”

Turning her attention back to him, her expression softens back into that familiarity reserved only for the Turks. Without him and Rude, she would still be spewing empty Shinra business mantras. “Take a coffee break. You need a little bit of rest. After that, we can discuss what chunk of it can I help with so we can get our boots back on the ground out there, yeah?" She gestures to city beyond the window.

Send 🕯️ for my muse’s reaction to finding yours sitting alone in the dark, waiting for them to come home.(something about izzy alone in the dark waiting for someone to come home seems pretty ominous xD)

The scent hit Cissnei as she opened the door. An unknown feminine perfume mixed with the lingering edge of chemical solvent and crisp linens. It had no business being in her living room. It was a scent that nearly drove her on edge. She reached into her jacket and hit the emergency button in case she suddenly disappeared. She knew her partner, Balto, would stop at nothing to find her. Nothing would live in a mile radius if he thought she was in danger. And he was the nice one of the group.

The lock clicked into place with a sharp, heavy finality. Now the invader was locked in here with her. 

Cissnei didn't reach for the light switch. Her right hand remained suspended, hovering an inch above her weapon harness, her boots planted firm against the entryway mat. In the thin, slate-gray moonlight cutting through the blinds, the silhouette waiting on the couch was motionlessly patient.

"You shouldn't be here," her voice dropping into the flat, dangerous register reserved for field operations. She didn't move deeper into the room. She kept her back to the door frame, using the dark to measure the distance between them. Nothing made Cissnei more upset than an uninvited visitor being in her safe haven. This was Cissnei’s sacred place to decompress.  "And you definitely shouldn't be here in the dark. That tends to get people shot."

She slowly removed her blazer and hung it on the hook, her eyes never leaving the shadow on the couch. Every muscle in her shoulders was coiled tight. In her line of work, anyone who spent their days under neon fluorescent lighting with a clipboard and a clearance badge usually viewed people as data points, test subjects, or collateral damage. She had watched injured SOLDIERs, disgruntled employees, unruly orphans, and even Turks fall to their hands, and usually not for the better. It gave Cissnei an uneasy bias against the white coats. Cissnei had hunted down enough projects to know what happened when the R&D division took a personal interest in someone.

"If Hojo sent you, you're smarter than to sit in the dark waiting for me to pull a weapon," Cissnei murmured, her tone stripped of warmth. She took one measured step forward. She strained to hear if she brought her own goons with her. "Which means you're likely here on your own time. So let's skip the small talk. What does the science department want with me tonight?"

"Oh, a lot of you are a part of my open door policy no doubt about that. Though -- i don't remember that policy allowing someone to corner me at my desk chair." Reeve mused a little with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. Watching briefly as Cissnei disappeared back inside before looking back out over the expanse of Midgar before the woman returned. He smelled the coffee the moment she stepped through the sliding door. "Ah, thank you." Reeve grabbed the cup gratefully before taking a small sip.

Ah, she was straight to the point.

"Maybe it is an existential crisis." The executive mused for a moment as he looked down at his cup thoughtfully. "Sector 7 should never have happened. It wasn't meant to happen -- I tried -- " Reeve cut himself off just shaking his head a little. He just couldn't stop the ball once it got rolling no matter what he did. He was too late.

Another sip, "A lot of things are keeping me up tonight. My work, executive board meetings, dealing with said executives..."

Cissnei listened quietly, her eyes shifting from the dark expanse of Midgar to him. The plate drop was a tragedy. She knew Shinra's President went too far. And poor Reno, who was taking the brunt of the guilt with the soft reassurance from Tseng that someone else would have done it instead of him. Surely, Reeve hated the Turks for doing such terrible work.

A soft sigh, then she took a slow sip from her own cup, letting the steam rise between them.

"You tried, Reeve," she said softly, her voice carrying a rare, dropped-shield sincerity. "In a building full of men who look at those plates as nothing more than lines on a blueprint, you were the only one who saw the people living under them. Don't let the President's decisions become your ghost to carry." No. That belonged to the Turks.

She swirled the coffee in her cup, watching the liquid catch the amber glow of the city lights.

"As for the board..." Her lips twitched with a small, knowing smile, bringing back a touch of her usual light humor. "If dealing with Scarlet and Palmer hasn't driven you to an existential crisis by now, I'd say you're holding up better than most." She chuckled softly.

She looked away again. This time down at the people below. She felt the chill of night on the air for a moment. A soft frown touched her lips. "But, changing the wanted posters for the ecoterrorists that survived the disaster that was meant for them..." She side-eyed him for a moment. "It could hurt those not involved, if you're not careful."

He watched Cissnei step into the room he was standing confused in the middle of. Somehow she looked even more ethereal than usual; her fiery hair somehow more pronounced to his eyes. Reeve smiled softly with a little chuckle when she said he had been thinking too loudly. Listening intently to her words as his eyes cast around the room, and his mind thought to their surroundings downstairs when they had been speaking ten minutes ago.

"...It's really not." The man's voice was like a whisper. Actually, wait -- why wasn't his voice coming out normally like it had been before? A split second later he felt mildly panicked at this fact as he tried to clear his throat. The sounds outside the home, her presence, they all suddenly seemed hollow and becoming a little more fuzzy. Were they going back home? No, something felt completely off. Almost like things were becoming entirely intangible.

"C--Ciss---" There went his voice again; barely above a cracked whisper. His throat felt dry. Another noise was starting to slowly grow louder and louder somewhere in the background of his mind.

He blinked, the room changed.

He blinked again, Cissnei was gone.

Reeve felt his heart race before suddenly there was a dim light that cut through the fog currently enveloping his senses. His mind concocted Cissnei's voice briefly before suddenly his eyes blinked open once more. Except he was no longer standing in that room of the beautiful home they had been sharing. No longer were there the sounds of gulls, gently lapping waves, and other coastal noises. Instead, Reeve found himself tangled up in the familiar sheets of his familiar bedroom. The noise which had been slowly growing louder was that of a siren passing from several streets away; blearing off into the distance after a couple moments.

"Wait ..." Reeve groggily rubbed his hand over his eyes, "What the fuck...?" Was the first thing that he could think of to say. The dim light which he had seen in his dream was simply coming from outside. After a couple moments of catching his bearings he slowly sat up running his fingers through his hair. His mind was starting to slowly bring itself back to the present moment taking the surroundings in bit by bit. It was at this time he sat there looking down at his tossed sheets with brows furrowed. The calm that had begun to settle over him gave way to a sense of deep melancholy. So that was all just a figment of his overactive imagination? Everything felt so real though.

Reeve hadn't expected to feel as distraught as he did over the ending of such a realistic dream. One thing was for certain: several years of emotions had definitely reared their heads as he slept. Rather mindlessly he reached out to grab his phone off the nightstand checking the time and date.

Currently it was Saturday, 4pm.

Oh that's right, he had been laying down for a nap after making adjustments to Cait Sith. He unlocked the screen and scrolled through his contact list with a slightly heavy sigh through his nose. Reeve's thumb hovered over Cissnei's name as he struggled with several thoughts at once. She definitely didn't have the same kind of dream but -- now that his thoughts were settling, Reeve came to the conclusion that perhaps he needed to reach out to her. Some sign from the universe perhaps.

Opening up her contact information he settled on sending a text message.

[To: Cissnei - RCS Chat 4:12pm - Sent ] Hey, wanted to touch base and see what you've been up to. Ended up taking a nap by accident for longer than I intended. If you have time I was thinking about heading over to get some Wutain food. Lemme know if you have time, thanks!

Reeve carefully maneuvered out of bed taking his phone with him as he shuffled out and down the stairs. Might as well fix a little snack before he went to grab dinner tonight.

Avalanche members. Full of hypocrisy and lies. Sworn to darken the earth with human blood just so the Planet could thrive in the sacrifice. Sworn to save the planet no matter the cost of human lives. 

And she caught herself a nice, big ecoterrotist. One that had been about to blow a reactor. One that didn’t bother to think of the hospital that needed the power in that district. Didn’t think of the elderly and sick that relied on that power. Didn’t think about the surrounding community that would go up in flames at the blast with many dead. Nor was a thought spared for the poor rookie Turk that was caught unawares, who lay hospitalized in the medical ward.

No matter the cost, Avalanche says. 

She watched this one squirm, tapping her knife to her cheek in thought. ‘This one should count as at least two tallies in her body count’, she thought.

His arms were bent back behind the chair rest and secured with cuffs. A thick rope held him in place. The chair was beautifully bolted to the floor. And just under it a pile of his own C4. 

Cissnei had been vicious during the interrogation. Slashed an eye. Cut close to an artery. His cheek was red and swollen.A tooth lay on the floor. A nail was missing from one of his hands. 

She had been rather tame this time around. And still he stubbornly gritted his teeth.

Cissnei’s blazer hung on a nail on the wall of this abandoned shed. One of the few things she didn’t want soiled. Her PHS chimed loudly and brightly. She gave a soft sigh at this interruption. 

“Well, if you keep biting down on your tongue, maybe its time I loosened it.” She hummed ominously sweet. She slammed the hilt of her dagger just beneath the hinge of his jaw to force his mouth to open. Then, she slid the trigger to the C4 into his mouth. The red button dangerously shoved between his teeth. 

She was dancing on the edge of a knife. And it thrilled her that at any moment, his jaw would relax, taking him - and maybe even her - with it. 

She twirled the knife in her palm before shoving it back into her hilt at her thigh. 

The PHS buzzed in her bag. She patted the man on his shoulder as she walked by. Her finger coming down on a button on a portable boombox set up on the stool. Music edged out to cover her phone conversation:

“I can't decide Whether you should live or die/Oh, you'll probably go to heaven/Please don't hang your head and cry/No wonder why/My heart feels dead inside/It's cold and hard and petrified/Lock the doors and close the blinds/We're going for a ride~”

She could hear him struggle in his bonds.

Finding a silk handkerchief embroidered with the Shinra logo, she cleaned her hands. She fished out the phone to see it was Reeve.

[To: Reeve - RCS Chat 4:25pm - Sent ] A 'nap by accident'? Sounds suspiciously like you just passed out from overwork. 💤 I'm in the middle of wrapping something up right now, but I can make time for food. Give me about half an hour? Which restaurant? @engineering-robotics

Isrieal was very still in her seat, listening carefully to every single word and sensing every emotional shift. "My morals?" She asks softly. "I ask because I'm not the one prioritizing someone who is inherently fine over someone who is missing." She folds her hands into her lap. "You come here for the girl, so you claim, yet you are prioritizing me." And why was that? Isrieal was always a mystery of lies and secrets wrapped up into a pretty bow. Something Cissnei once chose to overlook, what changed now that she needed to know?

Isrieal sits there silently staring across the room as Cissnei gets up and moves towards the elevator. Waiting. The moment the door began to open they froze halfway, a shudder resounding along the entire shaft as if some force was locking it, fighting against its mechanisms to open and run its course. After the moment of tension, they slam shut, and the glow of the elevator powers down. Isrieal had always been psychic but it was as if the system itself were reacting as well.

People could come into the labs all they wanted, but getting back out was the hard part. People only left the labs if Isrieal allowed them to; it had always been that way. Perhaps Cissnei would have her chance, but any teams that thought they could come down here would not. Still Isrieal sits at the table, not having moved a single muscle until Cissnei can only look back at her.

"Fine." She says as if breathing a sigh and rising to her feet. "I'll tell you. But as someone who has also been curious, there are some things you can't unknow. Why don't you sit back down?" She gestures towards the black leather couch below the display screen on the wall. The room is surrounded by a border of neon blue lights along the ceiling as if this were some futuristic lobby. This area of DeepGround was far nicer than the parts exposed by the Platefall a few years ago. It was also deeper with stricter security clearance.

"Do you know what Geostigma is?" She asks. "An overreaction of the immune system as it tries to purge foreign substances from the body. In this case, the Jenova cells people were infected with by the negative lifestream that lashed out in the final moments. Unfortunately, I got struck by that lifestream too. It made my own body try to reject Jenova cells but...what happens when all you are is made up of those cells?" She moves closer to Cissnei.

"I can't reject what I am so in my already weakened state, they started to die. I couldn't regenerate them fast enough to keep up. My skin was marked with black twisting vines, days were spent on the floor throwing up impossible amounts of black goo. Dead, liquefied cells." She pauses.

"What I am about to tell you, not even he knew about me. What I am capable of when it comes to survival." Perhaps part of the problem was that Cissnei would be the first to know and not someone who could appreciate it. If it was monstrous, she never had to hide herself around him.

"It became more like, what can I do to keep them alive long enough to fight this off? And the craving...like nothing I've ever experienced before." She folds her arms across her stomach. "Not only was I trying not to die, but it was as if the cells didn't want to die either. It was survival mode, Cissnei. I found that if I consumed the cells of others, it replaced them long enough to keep me alive, and it worked." She smiles. "If I purged myself in the rain, I'm sure I would have disintegrated, but I kept myself alive long enough for my own cells to mutate and fight off the disease themselves. And slowly I began to heal and regain my energy.."

She watches Cissnei carefully. "It wasn't pleasant, and it still isn't. That's why I want to hide it. That's why I wipe their memories and inject them with a bit of aphrodisiac. I'm usually against tampering with minds unless the benefits outweigh the circumstances. This way, I steal some cells, and we both leave happy. I can't really explain how I consume them, but I could always show you." She teases with a smirk. "Anyone, I'm nearly back to normal, and I doubt I will need to top off much longer, if at all."

She crosses her arms at her chest and glances down the hall that trails from the lobby they are in. "As for what I'm doing here. I guess I'm going to have to show you that as well. Before you tell me how unfairly projects were treated, you should maybe consider that those projects didn't listen." Unlike her, for the most part. For some reason, she was on the defensive more than usual with Cissnei.

"But don't worry, I ditched the biological specialty long ago. Technology is way more fascinating, and there is no risk of pain and degradation as I had watched so many others suffer from before." She was never able to cure a Soldiers affliction from those cells and Mako, something that had always ate away at her, but now that was no longer necessary. She did leave room to see if Cissnei had any questions about her revelation first or if she even still wanted to see what she was doing here.

Was Cissnei prioritizing Isrieal over a missing person? Was it not possible to work more than one case? The Turk usually kept her reasons close to her chest, never expressing her true intent until the appropriate time. No Isrieal was likely deflecting. 

…Especially since Cissnei did just prioritize the girl and now Isrieal decided to keep her locked in. A soft unworried sight left her lips. Wouldn’t be the first time. Couldn’t make up her mind could she. 

The heavy, metallic clunk of the elevator dying in its tracks didn't make Cissnei flinch. Instead, Cissnei just slowly turned on her heel, resting her back against the useless elevator doors. Her head tilted back slightly, a small unimpressed smile tugging at the corner of her lips. Psychic tricks and dramatic lock-ins. Classic.

“Oh? You really know how to keep a girl on her toes. Could have just asked for a playdate, if you wanted me to stay so badly,” Cissnei teased, unbothered by the sudden trap, "for someone so obsessed with me finding this missing person, locking me in a dark room with you is a load of mixed signals. What if I get comfortable?"

She didn't take the seat. Instead, she stayed right where she was, folding her arms over her chest and tracking Isrieal with sharp eyes as the other woman paced closer. She knew what geostigma was. The other Turks were busy trying to keep back scientists and doctors using snake oil remedies to find victims to test on. Seemed old habits died hard. 

She listened to the grotesque specifics of the Geostigma, the black goo, the cell consumption, and the memory-wiping methods. Most people would have been mortified by the casual horror of it all, but Cissnei had spent most her life in the shadows of Shinra. She knew what monsters looked like. She hunted down the mutilated and mindless Ravens, Genesis copies and degrading SOLDIERs. She was aware of the makonoid-forms of abused victims. How an entire village was wiped out by insanity of those who tried to cope with being a monster. 

The Turks were the worst. They accepted the fact they worked similarly to Jenova - using deception, mimicry, psychological exploitation, and even sweet words to alter perceptions. They accepted and utilized being a monster. Cissnei never could keep her angel wings in the garden of monstrosities. She had to cut them off to survive. 

When Isrieal offered to "show" her how she consumed those cells, Cissnei let out a quiet, breathy laugh. It carried the soft sound of amusement and genuine intrigue. She took a slow, deliberate step forward, narrowing the distance Isrieal had just closed, her gaze dropping briefly to Isrieal’s lips before flashing back up to lock onto her eyes.

"Is that an invitation?" Cissnei asked softly, her voice dropping into a pur. "Because as tempting as it sounds to let you 'top off' on me, I usually like to be taken out to dinner before someone tries. And preferably somewhere with better lighting." When Cissnei’s life was threatened, her racing heart found a thrill in it, not fear. 

She let the moment linger before her expression shifted into operative focus.

"Fascinating story, though," Cissnei continued, slipping out from between Isrieal and the elevator door, "Cannibalizing Jenova cells to survive a planet-wide immune response...is very resourceful. Horrible, deeply unethical, but resourceful. I’ll give you points for sheer grit.” 

Her eyes flicked down the hall where Isrieal had gestured, then back to Isrieal's guarded expression. Cissnei wondered what was going on behind those eyes. 

Her tone softened just a fraction, "Again, I’m not here to judge your... exotic diet now that you’re a vampire.” Not quite, but close enough. “ Thank you for sharing though I am confused why you ditched the biological specialty when you are going through this kind of change to your own body. Still, you have my full attention…”

Cissnei gestured toward the dark hallway with a subtle wave of her hand, a crooked smile gracing her lips.

"So, show me. What's the tech project?”

Though Cissnei couldn’t help but wonder if this was a coping mechanism against witnessing science projects gone wrong. Though those in the know in Shinra never did have simple coping mechanisms. What was workplace balance or employee benefits anyway?

It had been a long, relentless day. Between guarding Shinra’s assets and hunting down ecoterrorists, the work was an exhausting grind. Even Cissnei had finally succumbed.

She woke with a sharp intake of breath as a stack of folders cascaded over her, burying her desk in a mini-landslide of bureaucracy. Her hand was still outstretched toward a mug of coffee that had gone cold.

A groan slipped from her lips. Sitting up, she brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear and blinked away the fog of an exhaustion nap. She stared at the scattered papers, starting to sort them back into neat piles out of sheer habit, but the effort fizzled out. With a soft sigh, she let her hands rest flat on the desk, pushed herself up, and headed into the quiet hallway.

The breakroom vending machine offered little comfort. Her first two choices flickered back a cold red message, 'OUT OF STOCK'. On the third try, a pair of canned coffees finally dropped into the tray with a heavy clunk.

As she bent down to retrieve them, familiar voices drifted around the corner. Two office workers, their tones dripping with nasty gossip about Reno. Cissnei’s gaze sharpened instantly. A bad day was one thing, but hearing anyone talk about her Turk partner was entirely another.

Stepping smoothly around the corner, a slow, dangerous smile curved her lips.

“I hear Lana’s been spending an awful lot of time in a certain supervisor's office after hours,” Cissnei remarked smoothly, her voice a low purr as she gestured toward one of the women with a coffee can. She turned her unwavering gaze to the second worker. “And Mary… didn't you log an extra forty-five minutes on your bathroom break today?”

The gossips paled instantly. Trapped under the sudden, intimate knowledge Cissnei held over them, they murmured quick, terrified apologies and practically scrambled down the hall.

Cissnei watched them go with a subtle, satisfied smirk. Her eyes stared daggers into their backside until they were out of view. Carrying the canned coffees, she made her way to Reno’s office and paused in the doorway.

His desk was an absolute disaster: sticky notes, half-read reports, and forgotten clutter everywhere. But he was sitting in the middle of it all, a little disheveled and looking unfairly handsome. The sight of him immediately dissolved the lingering fatigue in her chest, replaced by a familiar warmth.

Padding quietly up behind his chair, she draped her forearms gently over his shoulders, leaning down until her breath tickled his hair.

When her eyes met those brilliant blue ones as he leaned back, her breath hitched just a little.

To hide her smile, she tilted her head down and pressed a kiss right along his soft red hair, letting her lips rest there just long enough to get his attention.

"Rough day, Sparky?" she whispered fondly. Her breath tickled along his scalp the tongue in cheek nickname for him.
