New Zealand soldiers open their first mail delivery since the Allied victory and cessation of hostilities in the North African Campaign. The almost three year series of battles in North Africa, from 10 June 1940 to 13 May 1943, would effectively crush Italy’s power as a strong Axis partner, lead to the downfall of Italy’s fascist government and set the stage for the Allied invasion of Sicily and the Italian Campaign.
