Figured I should drop my headcanons about Roman’s orientation now that I’ve finally worked them out.

Roman is bisexual but not attracted to women the same way he is to men, because he’s so heavily romantically attracted to the latter.

Most of his relationships with women are purely physical; he’s certainly capable of caring for them the way he would anyone else, but there isn’t the same level of emotional attachment.

With men, however, Roman is able to get much more involved. Peter wasn’t the first time he crushed on another guy, but given how isolated his family situation kept him from other people in town, Peter’s status as the new kid gave him a rare opportunity. That to truly get to know a boy his age without them already knowing all his baggage.

While Roman continues to have sex with others throughout the series, his heart is already set on Peter. Neither part of him detracts from the other: he remains hopelessly in love with Peter while also enjoying his various sexual escapades.

The bottom line is that Peter will always come first, will always be the one he chooses. Over and over again, no matter what happens, he will not stray from his first love.
