but he wouldn't be here without it. where his partner is silent in his mind, their presence is more easily felt when he dons these whites and reds. if it was arval, they'd tell him to make the most of it.

lamenting on his losses wouldn't help him in the future.

what the hell is this feeling? his limbs don't feel like they're even his anymore. trying to move or step away yields nothing but alarms blaring in his mind.

His eyes are fixated towards a table, a figure framed by long flowing green hair sits and sips at tea as if all is well. It is, is it not? it is not.

Just barely, Shez wills himself to sit across from her. A waiter passes and pours him a cup. From the aroma, the Albeinean Berry Blend. He focuses on taking a sip and swallows hard. Courtesy for taking a cup, he guesses, is offering a flower. A red rose with its stem cut is placed in the center of the table.

When he speaks, his voice wavers and cracks. "What are you?"

"You get it!" The tail end of his sentence feels lacking but if he mistakenly calls her that, he doesn't know if he could take it back. But then when she holds up two glasses?

Shez's eyes glisten and a smile beams.

It was different for every group he joined. Some were really strict about it and others would sneak bottles from the cellars of the charges they were protecting. It's hard not to smile at the thought of those times.

"My lips are sealed!" After he finishes his drinks of course. Of course its not too much in the first place. One glass is thrown down the hatch and the next follows quickly. He holds the empty glasses in one hand before setting them on the edge of a table.

"Here - let me thank you." Man, he's given out too many of the white roses but... he has just enough to barely manage this. The stems are a little flimsy and some of the petals are a little warped, but it's a flower crown of mostly white roses, a few reds mixed in haphazardly.

"Ah... I kind of wanted it to remind you of your headband but it's a little too red." He holds it out with a smile regardless. "I still owe you one though!"

Sylvain wonders what his ball would look like if there were anyone here he really cared about. Would he want to dance with them? Would every second feel like something stolen, precious in a way that makes lifelong memories?

He laughs, the sound too sharp to be kind. There was never anything about his time that was precious. His roster is full, whether he wants it or not. “Hey, don’t think like that. This is our opportunity to have fun. Live a little!” His favorite has always been the second, so he tears the honey-glazed treat in half and offers the other to Shez.

“If you walk around thinking no one has the time, you’re gonna be alone all night.” Plucking the rose from hands shaped by too much training, Sylvain replaces it with one of his hyacinths and wink. “Eat these with me, and try to put yourself out there. It’s only for a night, so what could possibly go wrong?”
