"An Allegory of Triumph" by Kalin Thompson. 200cm x 100cm, oil on board. Early 2013 saw a private showing of Kalin Thompson's "An Allegory of Triumph" at Blake House Gallery for VIPs only. We have kept this under wraps until now as we can share images of this amazing work. Kalin can be contacted through kalinthompson.com
It's officially official. Shida's "Spirits" show opens February 1st and runs until the 9th... See the event details here:

Beastman & Gimiks Born hard at work... Back And Forth (Semi-Permanent Sideshow) this Thursday night 30.8.12 from 6pm! Blake House Gallery - 35 Adelaide Street Brisbane QLD 4000
So this is what all the fuss is about. This coming Thursday we're hosting the official Semi-Permanent sideshow dubbed Back & Forth we've got a stellar lineup thanks to the ladies and gents at The Bureau. Be sure to make it if you can!
With their installation being currently painted in the gallery, it's only right we introduce the second artist painting our wall: Beastman! With his graphic style influenced by patterns and lines that occur in nature, he has some amazing work under his belt. No wonder he's speaking at this year's Brisbane Semi-Permanent.
This is how a Shida is born...
Next in our artist intro's for Back & Forth is Gimiks Born. With a mix of fine art and graffiti with a penchant for collaborations; this ex-pat Kiwi artist's narrative like art has made it's way all around the world. Be sure to check out his installation with the final feature artist for this event; Beastman.
Using mainly illustration and sculpture, Drew Bickford touches on the subjects of crime, horror and deformity. The Sydney based artist presents his unique topic and style in a way that somehow finds beauty amongst the shocking and sometimes distressing subject. You can see more examples of Drew's work on his website until his piece hangs at Back & Forth later this month.
Amy Longworth is next in our artist features leading up to Back & Forth; with her beautifully structured works bringing to mind a certain graphic design influence with the unique nuances that only something hand made can truly possess. Although her career is in its infancy, Amy has established her unique style and continues to create fantastic work. You can see more of her pieces via her website or keep up to date through tumblr.
In this day and age it's amazing that someone can remain anonymous. Slurpee Slug is one such person. Based out of Sydney, Slurpee's recognisable style and strong 'zine runs mean that there's a huge following for the Slug's work. With a piece currently in the works for our Back and Forth show, we can't wait to see what comes out!
The second artist we'd like to mention in the upcoming Back and Forth show is Jesse Olsen; a locally based artist whose fine line art sees him create incredibly intricate pieces. Jesse's work extends seamlessly through illustration, tattooing and graphic design with his signature aesthetic shining through no matter what medium.
You can keep up with Jesse's work via his blog.
Shots of the finished Shida piece up on facebook and flickr!
On the run-up to our Semi-Permanent sideshow and after party at the end of this month we'd like to give you a taste of what the artists involved can create. First off is Tokyo based Australian artist Mark Drew. Mark is the co-founder and curator of China Heights gallery and his work revolves around cassette culture, something that supports the theme of the Back and Forth show quite well.
You can check out Mark's work on his site Making Ends.
